Ruby/Emerald/FireRed - Non-profit hack warning screen (Sample)

This is a working project for use on FireRed ROMs. It's basically a screen that loads before FireRed starts. This screen displays the following before the game is loaded:



It's a static image (no fancy effects) telling people to go to the rijonWorld "Legit" site - http://rijon.nintendo-net.com/legit/. I think it'd be a great idea if more hacks embraced this to fight piracy. (Shiny Gold, since you're massively pirated by Chinese nobodies, I'm looking at you.)

You can download a patch (It's IPS!) here to insert it. (Remember to back up your hack before you patch it in case something goes wrong.)

edit: thethethethe has created a Ruby patch and an Emerald patch, which you can download from this post.

It's made using assembly code by interdpth (the screen is by me).

I was planning to ask you about how to do that but I guess I should wait for next week(since I hack Ruby)...

Oh lol i totally got the wrong impression haruki when i read the title XD. Anyway good job im sure this is going to stop a lot of people and actually make some other bands of people respect and cherish the hackers world. Maybe a revolution even but yeah thanks again.

I'm assuming that it's intended more for hacks coming out now. Obviously you can't put this on every game out there. But it will help to slow piracy.

What if we already patched a tile rom base, we can't patch over patches? Anyway, this is a good idea.

Patches check the difference between two ROMS (the edited and unedited ones) and make a patch that will edit the part of the ROM that has been changed in the edited one.
So, if you have a ROM that has a script at 800000 and another with a script at 400000, if you create a patch that patches one of the ROMs onto a clean FR ROM and patch it onto the other, both remain. However, if you create a patch for one over the other, then only one script remains.
Did you get all that?

...Or, well, I think that's right.

Yes, I get exactly what you're saying, and I'm pretty sure it's right. :D

But what I meant, is that you can patch this patch (which, I assume, is for a blank FireRed) over one that you make, and it will keep both. Like you said, the ROM will keep what work he's done thus far, and only change the little screen thing for him, unless he's found some way into the data that was used to make the screen, in which case he'll have some corrupted data. Or something of the sort.

I did it by taking the image he wanted to use and made it GBA compatible and applied an ASM hack. =P

Nope. It makes a screen appear when you load it up (an example is in the first post). This will alert anyone who's bought a pirated version of the fact that it's supposed to be free, and hopefully make them get a refund and drive the pirates out of business >:)

I tried to post up a thread telling people that this warning sign at the start of a hack should be compulsory.......But the thread din't show up in the rom hacking section sooooooo........?
But i have the ips patched to my rom hack soo i only need to re-ips it if my rom chrashes like it did so i have to repatch it..........

That is a great idea Haruki Hanai, Take that pirates :P if i got time i also add that into my hack ^^, because pirates already stole my hack before, called Pokemon dark cry. i know that hack sucked xD but in that time it was my first hack :P but i'll also add that ^^ so the pirates can't steal my hack this time without risks :P

EDIT: How i can change the tekst inside of it? I've found out that if you patch it over a rom that's already edited it'll work ^^ but how you can change the tekst? it'll be usefull if this is possible.

EDIT2: Nvm, i've add it into TE ^^ it's really usefull, and also see like this, í'm promoting your site :P Btw. I'll give you credits for this ^^ i don't want that TE also got be pirated. if you don't agree with it I can delete it because i've made a back-up (20 xD)

This is going straight into SilverCurrent, this is a great idea. I agree with Kike-Scott, this should become a basic requirement for any hack.
Oh and, a question. What part of the ROM does the patch edit, one that isn't normally used by means of "normal"(scripting etc) hacking?
