New to game.... couple questions.

1.) I understand Paralyzed, poison, and asleep. but not confused or Burnt. Is the only way to ever become not confused is to retreat? or when you successfully flip to attack does that un-confuse you? is it same for burnt? You have to retreat to get rid of them?

2.) when you get a card like a trainer card. it says search your deck for an energy card. do you search and pick any energy you want or just the first you come to?

1) No. The Status stays on until you move to the bench by any means, evolve or Level Up, or are healed by a card's effect.

2) You get to pick any Energy card unless the card says otherwise.
