Well... it's always nice to take a break, but I live by "never give up" when it comes to shiny hunting. It has brought me many goodies, including my shiny Totodile, Grimer (the good one), Gligar, Swablu, Buneary, Misdreavus... too many to count.

When you get back at it, be sure to keep at it! It pays off!!

Wow... congratulations everyone... again, when you get hot, you get hot I guess! o_0;

I hope I can break my slump now. After I'm done with Swablu, I'll move onward to a new bird, my original Platinum target.

Speaking of that... yes. The Trainer ID score.

On my other Pearl, I checked and I have about 6,000+ and remember how I strangely breezed to 40 with Caterpie on the first try?

I'm anxious to test this stuff out, but do not want to jeopardize my Diamond's Magikarp hatches..

But anyway, looks like we're 3 - 0 when it comes to people not liking Platinum's shiny patch.

It's just harder to notice compared to D/P's where it really pops off the screen at you. Platinum's seems faster and just weirder...

So, uh, good luck everyone... Looks like that's working. o.O

.... I nigh have a single entrant for March Madness!! What is this blasphemy?!?!? T_T

I do, however, have a couple new non-chainable targets on the GBA games, so... yeah. I do those when I don't have time for anything else.
It'd be awesome to just randomly get them since I'm not really trying.

Uhh, okay, looks like LDD's dramatic entry caused me to skim over your post. Welcome to the club!

March Madness has ended and I have no shiny Rotom yet, but I will keep trying. Or go chain something. I still have that list of secret Radar targets I need to plug through when I'm bored.

I also was able to successfully tweak to enter the infamous black void, so I might go SR a Shaymin. (Glitches are counted here, provided they don't involve any external devices or enhance your odds substantially. The latter may class them as Cert Shinies.) Despite this, I might just wait for the Platinum wi-fi events anyway, since they're probably close, to stay in the clear for environments where glitches are banned.

I'd get one from the white rock in Mossdeep, but my rocket launch count has already passed 100. GJ with the Heavy Ball. Doesn't it take two weeks to grow a Black Apricorn?

In other news, it's come to my attention that Platinum's RNG is abusable in similar ways to Emerald's. (It doesn't prevent the legitimate capture of shinies, nor does it occasionally dish out lucky savefiles, but nonetheless, is still predictable.) Therefore, any shinies from Platinum found by exploiting the RNG will be considered cert shinies, so only one (period. across all species and savefiles) may be counted for credit. If exploiting the RNG involves using external devices to find your secret ID, shinies found in this way may not be counted at all.

Use of Masuda's Rule for breeding, on the other hand, is completely acceptable and encouraged. It seems that amidst this research, they've confirmed (finally) the existence of a shiny odds boost when breeding Pokémon from foreign games. The odds of hatching a shiny in this case are approx. 1 in 2048. (Be careful when choosing your parents though! Just trading an egg to a foreign game and hatching it there doesn't change its region for these purposes, despite having a foreign nickname and OT. The parent Pokémon must bred/caught on the foreign game.) It hasn't been mentioned whether or not this works on D/P or just Platinum, but I'd expect it works the same way on D/P since Jun'ichi Masuda posted the blog long before Platinum's release.

Hello shiny Skorupi. (still breeding Chikorita in Emerald just for the principle of the matter, and for GenIII access)

I didn't want it to come to this. Dammit. I will not take one look into this, unless it somehow prevents me from getting shinies. Or, for the most part.

I reported that post before I knew it was you, DDD. Now I'm glad I hit that button!

xP

Nothing new for me; I did a few more Articuno Soft Resets today, but nothing major will go down until Friday. Speaking of big-time SRing, how many SRs can be done per minute in FireRed/LeafGreen?

Thank you. T.T

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

NOW TO GET A FOREIGN MALE MAGIKARP FROM THE GTS AND SWAP IT INTO THE DAY CARE AND PRAY!

That'll work, right?

Oh man..... I'm feeling giddy. I feel so much closer to what I've worked so hard for.....

It'll still take some work, but I'm willing to do this...

And as far as Platinum's RNG goes, I won't be exploiting anything. It's too confusing to me and I can just chain. =\

Wait. This better not be some cruel, last minute April's Fools Day joke.

That's not cool though.
People can easily get foreign Pokémon, taking away our hard-earned shinies!
And can't anyone live without tapping into an abuse-able generator? Seriously, get skill, and get originality. This is why I don't want to go to a tournament. Too many abusers out there.

The man himself put this into the game though... he even mentions it on his blog. =\ He wants it to be known!!

He wants people to connect with the GTS. Trade with each other and still have fun.

Try hatching some eggs. It's not fun. The odds aren't broken enough. I will use this because it will still be tough to pull off.

It's no joke, AFAIK, unless Smogon is imparted to it and it's been going on for some time.

As it turns out, my brother hasn't reached the daycare in his Japanese game (casual player, peh, ) so I'm hitting the #spp-wifi chat to see if I can track one down, which is surprisingly difficult.

And 1/2048 is hardly trivial. I'm not sure if it ever came up, but the rule in my mind is that the odds should be better than 1/1000 to truly count as enhanced beyond reason. Since most of the breedable Pokémon, spare a few, can be caught through easier means, the only real thing this changes is that these Pokémon, as shinies, are now open to having strong IVs and egg moves.

If that were the case, then I'd claim some chained shinies as random then. I've had plenty of chain 2/3 shinies. Vibrava. Lickitung. And it's up to about a chain of 30 before you break 1,000, I do believe.

It's on a 21-chain or less, actually, since up to 4 patches can shake. (The worst-case scenario must be taken until proven otherwise.) And this is what we call a troll post. You can count them if you want to, but shinies past 21 are going to be considered duplicates of those found before 22.

Just like cloning is a glitch, and thus legal, but we don't count cloned shinies because they're duplicates of other Pokémon and share the same random process, if you want to count shinies found before 22 on chains, then those found after are considered duplicates. If you've found more than one shiny from a single chain before 22 then you have a ton of luck and may go ahead and count them both.

Hey there, hiei-chan; I'll be the first to welcome yeh. You'll have to wait for MetalMario to officially confirm you, but he's gonna be on quite frequently enough for that. So enjoy yourself here, and that's basically it. What shinies do you currently have, and what are you hunting?

Umm, it's April 2, right? Were the parents of this egg from different regions?

And welcome to the club, hiei-chan.

So far, I've pulled two Japanese Skorupi off the GTS, and BOTH of them were Timid. -.- The second one cost me a Latios. This could take a while.

Edit: Hiei: Just make sure you follow all of the chaining rules. Chains, especially of rare Pokémon, like to break on their own anyway, so you need to be persistent.

You think I would care about a silly contest when I finally obtain something I've been working on for months? "March Madness" was the least of my worries.

This is the real prize!! (see below)

Thanks, and welcome to the club.

You seem to have some experience chaining, so I don't understand what you are having trouble with. Ralts is a rare Pokemon and chains tend to break easy with rare Pokemon so you just have to keep trying.

The parents were Ben's Ditto and my own home grown Magikarp.

So as far as I know, no different regions.

Oh, yeah, don't believe me? This ain't no Rickikarp:

Spoiler:

It has a Lax nature but I do not care. Gyarados is a Pokemon you have to watch out for... and now I have my very own (soon at least)
:'(

Phew.... it's over now...

I SR'd, recorded hatching and then SRing and hatching again to prove that if you save before each egg you can SR it for better IVs and I will, thanks for my stockpiled Platinum rare candies that I traded over when I traded my shinies over to Platinum.

Yesh! YESSH!!!!

but is there specific rules for rare pokemon because if ur chaining common pokemon and the are 3 rare grasses and one common and u go into the common grass this will likely break my chain so are there rules like that for rare grass?

Always make sure that all of the grasses that shake are the same kind and the kind you found your Pokemon in, and that the one that is farthest away isn't touching a wall or edge.

This means that all 4 must be Rare grass if you found Ralts in Rare grass..

video will have to come tomorrow, it's almost 4 AM and my parents are about to get up

edit:

Also, has anyone here actually hatched 3 shiny Pokemon before...? Excluding me, anyways.

I don't plan to stop hatching for shinies, even though I said I would.

We have something new to test.

edit2:

you're welcome hiei

You'll notice it'll take a lot longer but it's the secret to my success and I have my own shiny Gardevoir & Ralts, I got them not too long ago so good luck pal

Congrats DDD on your shiny Magikarp.

I'm going to be starting a secret shiny breeding project fairly soon. I just need to trade a few of my Japanese Pokemon from Platinum to Diamond. I plan on getting it started by the end of the day, and start my hatchings the weekend(off Saturday and Sunday :D)

I am not going to do the method mentioned on smogon, I'm just going to hatch my eggs the normal way. That is much more satisfying to me, and I won't be using the Platinum RNG either, as I plan on hatching in Diamond. At least SRing for shinies is safe for now on Platinum(until they crack that as well, )

I'm still SRing for shiny Chimchar in Platinum 2, but I think I'll switch to shiny Turtwig instead. I haven't evolved the one I got in DP, so if the Platinum one is better, I'll evolve that instead.
