Hack of: Pokémon Red Fire version

[BPRE]
Story:

An ancient set of islands lie far off in the seas of the Hoenn Ocean. Until recently, only told as a legend, these islands were thought to have only the riches of forests. Lush, green, undying trees, that spanned the landscapes. The tallest of grasses through out the fields, that only lead to the roughest of Mountain terrains. The clearest of waters in it's streams, that lead to the deepest blue oceans that surrounded each Island. Among all of this, a special type of Pokémon...ones that crossed into boarders of their weaknesses. Altered typing's, and attacks...completely differing from it's original ancestors'. These stories were passed down from generation to generation, until now...

Now, no longer just a legend, a team of researchers and their assistants have begun their studies. Having a small research facility on each of the four islands known as the "Holon Islands," each of these islands has it's own variety of Pokémon just as any other region of land, or sea would have. Only, being untouched by man for so long, has left this island, and all others, just as they were ten's of thousand's of years before. The ancient Pokémon here differ from any other in some senses, while others still developed into the Pokémon already known to man. Discoveries still to be found, they call you. The Champion of Hoenn's Elite 4.
They tell you that they have discovered the Delta Species. A Species that has typing no ordinary Pokémon should have. Also having very little data on these mysterious Pokémon, you set out on a journey to these four islands in hope of gaining more.

But, upon your arrival you find out that Team Rocket, along with Team's Aqua and Magma have made a return after their 4 long years of disappearance after the disastrous attempts of creating a new world for all all those years before. They have allied with Team Rocket, in a new plot to create this 'new world'. Taking the scientists captive, they force them to feed the DNA samples extracted from the Delta Speices into the blood streams of their own Pokémon. This reaction, alters the DNA of each, and turns Team Rocket's, Aqua's, and Magma's Pokémon into a Dark typing, no matter what species it was originally born into.

Finally, as you arrive, and as you walk up to the research facility, unaware, one of the scientists who escaped confronts you in a plead of help. He explains what happened, updates your PokéDex to the latest version, and asks you to gather the data on these Dark species, along with any others you may encounter. Having left your Pokémon back in Hoenn, and with no link back to the Hoenn continent just yet, he offers one of the already captured Pokémon from Holon. With your choice, you walk into the research facility, confronted by the guards, your first battle with these Delta Species begins...

Featuring;

Things you won't find in any other Pokèmon game!
  • Delta Species. (The heart of the hack, below will go give you an in-depth look at everything related to the Delta Species with notes and an example of concept art.)
Spoiler:

// note; allowing a lot more variation in the game play itself. Being converted from the TCG; it gives you a sense of something new. Even if you played the TCG the transition is smooth and tries to bring most of the elements found in it to an RPG style.

The Delta's are like 'shinies,' (and some are, as seen below) but slightly more common - meaning they are hard to find but it's not impossible like the shines are.

Finally, Breeders and Competitive Battlers alike can breed these with their original(s) in order to make an egg with the original having moves from it's Delta parent and not having some of the 'disadvantages' that it would have had, and vise versa with moves from the original tagged with the alt typings and those 'advantages'.
i.e. Shining Mew (Psychic, Water)

  • Complete new PokéDex. (Updated & REVISED) (Under this spoiler is an official update of the PokèDex. All of these changes are in-game. It also has a bunch of technical notes to look over before giving you the Dex information that you should be aware of, also.
Spoiler:

Note; before proceeding please understand that this is not final, and may change before the beta.
And also, that not every Delta has a new ability - some may be just new typing,
with the 'ability' to learn a move the original wouldn't -
others both ability, and typing, and then some just a new ability.

A more strategic game-play style that differs from any other Pokémon game(s).
  • A completely revised Attack Move database. (The following spoiler contains several notes and a lot of other information regarding the Attack Move database, and it's changes. There is an attachment following this thread that has even more if you're interested).
Spoiler:

Being entirely revised many things have changed and are more 'logical' in a way.
i.e.'s Tackle for example; now takes small recoil from hitting. Body Slam is a hit or self damaging attack. Tail-Whip hits and has a high % rate of lowering def. And just to finish of listing few, Sand-Attack does small damage while always lowering accuracy.

And also, i.e.'s of the different typing in moves; Rest is Normal now, replacing Psychic. Splash is Water, replacing Normal, and does small damage with low accuracy. Finally, just to finish naming off a few. Whirldwind has changed from Normal, to Flying.

edit: due to updates and thread limits you now have to download it from the attachments to view this category. Sorry for any inconvenience.

  • More realistic battles. (The following spoiler has a technical note you should be aware of before playing the Beta when it's released.
Spoiler:

// note; Team's Rocket, Magma, and Aqua all have revised move pools - meaning, they aren't like Nintendo's. They aren't all attacking moves, with high damage, and also; they aren't 'high levels' to try and make it -harder- by over powering your Pokémon. Instead, they'll use a higher AI level, held items, items, and a move pool that does more than just attack.

  • Completely revised Pokémon.
(Following in this spoiler is technical notes and many detailed examples to give you a better understanding of what to expect).
Spoiler:

// note & i.e. Most Pokémon will have three to four moves starting at level 1. This might sound weird, but it gives more options in battling at the beginning of the game. It also helps you by giving a better understanding of the new game-play along with how some of the games mechanics work.

i.e. revised TM capabilities; logically, of course. Because everything using Toxic, or Moltres using Rain Dance, Vaporeon with Sunny day is just stupid.

The base stats of all the Pokémon will be slightly different. Following this, is the sense of dymanic stats; usually when a Pokémon evolves all of it's stats go up. Alternatively, the changes will depend on the actual evolution itself; not just adding x points to every stat.

EV Training will be easier, as well. Giving off more points, and higher points so that it's not as time consuming.

  • A more Complex evolutionary chain(s) (Below lists notes and examples of the changes you can find in the evolutionary chain system).
Spoiler:

// note; there will be certain things you can do to make the originals evolve into a Delta Species. This may, or may not include trading for some.
(i.e. Tropius Delta turning into the Steel typing by either trade with Metal Coat, or by checking if def is higher than another stat at a curtain level.)

(i.e.(2)example of this would be Wingull, where it's Flying / Water and doesn't change - this may be depend on the idea, Water Stone > for Pelipper, Original and Thunder Stone > for Pelipper Delta. But this is not official and will possibly differ in the Beta. It was just an example.)

Something for everyone.

  • Team Rocket, Aqua, & Magma all in the same game.
(A few notes to read upon and some more concept art to help give that better understanding).
Spoiler:

Dark Delta's made by Team Rocket's Scientists', alt.typing, attacks, move pools, and base stats for each - more aggressive 'traits' i.e. Hustle for more intense battles See list below for more information.

As you can see, after it evolves it darkens. It's even more aggressive than it was - losing any of it's original nature it had before. Evolving pre-maturely, like the Magikarp in the G/S/C series, this will 'cause you to battle the second, or even third stage of each evolution before you would have if they hadn't been a Dark Delta.

Other features
  • Offical .pdf Walk-through (Small note on what to expect in the walk-through)
Spoiler:

// All maps covered, all Pokémon, (along with encounter rates, base stats, move pools, abilities (both "original" & Delta,) breeding chains, Base exp, EVs, and their catch rates layed out professionally) Trainers, (with tips & tricks strategies for each) and everything else in-game explained in a full guide.
Download in the attachment that's updated with each release. It progresses as you do.

  • New Pallets (You can find a small note and an example of what to expect here).
Spoiler:

I wanted to make them, more contrastic...sharper, cleaner, and more 'colorful'.
The greens more green, etc, Pokémon sprites have always been very...dull. Plain.
i.e.

(before)
&
(after)

  • New Sprites & Icons (Another note in this spoiler. This one talks about the new sprites and gives an example of one, too.)
Spoiler:

i.e. (Delta)

  • High-Resolution (300 dpi) (No spoiler needed here. Just look at the concept arts and see for yourself).
  • New Maps & Event(s) (Needs to be added, but once it is, you can view them below or in the attachment(s).
Spoiler:

  • "Free Roaming"(This gives out some ideas by showing some notes you should look over if you're intrested in this feature).
Spoiler:
// note; with a whole new region of new maps. Larger, they play upon the "new sense of things," also. Allowing for more exploration. Annoyed by all the boarders, and places you can't get to? I'm trying to fix that with this. Walk in any direction you want. The story-line is one of the things you won't have to follow if you don't want. They'll all mainly be random events around the map, so you have a choice.

I'll be redesigning the encounter ratios so that they aren't annoying every 2 seconds while walking through a cave, but high enough so you can still encounter to train or catch.

  • New Delta Starters
(You can check out your choices here).

Dratini(Dragon, Grass),
&

Larvitar (Ground, Electric),
&

Bagon (Dragon, Water).
  • "Starter(s)" obtainable in wild. (Small tech notes you might wanna view).
Spoiler:

// note;
This includes Delta, the Original(s), and 1st, 2nd, 3rd Generation "Starter(s)".

This isn't limited to the lowest stages of each Pokémon (remebering to include the Delta Species). Second stages may also be found in the wild, but at lower catch rates and at lower encounter ratios.

  • 1st Generation Gym Leaders as Elite 8 (Again, pretty self explanatory, but it wouldn't be a spoiler without something to spoil. Check out the note and example if you don't wanna wait to find out).
Spoiler:

// note; Alternative Pokémon, as seen the Gym series TCG expansion packs. Also, they may have a few of the Delta Species
i.e. Lt.Surge's Fearow - Delta Species (Fly, Electric) > (Flying, Normal)

  • De-capitalization.
(All game text will be written in proper English, and not longer Engrish.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are some features removed, here they are.

Features Removed;

  • Elite Four
  • Some Pokémon
(You can find a few notes here, but it's not complete.)
Spoiler:

I'll post a list of all the PokéDex changes as a spoiler later on when there's more progress.

  • Old sprites from Fire Red Base.
  • Gym(s) Leader battles
(The spoiler below explains how it's being replaced with a short note)
Spoiler:

// note; While you'll still be able to fight the ones mentioned above, technically you've already gotten all of the badges from Hoenn. And you're on this island...but, not only will you fight 'ex' Gym Leaders, and not only Team's Rocket, Magma, and Aqua, but also the mad scientists working for each. Plus, there's always those other trainers' who's arrival is inevitable.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current Progress: (before Beta Ones' release)

Completed;
Attack Move(s)database.
Decaps
of all Attacks / Abilities / Natures / Poké stat menu headers' & Items in-game.
Removed shadow from font so it's clearer.
(In-game font / Title screen / Typings. See below under screen shots).
Changed start amount money.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not everything is finished...here's what needs to happen before Beta One's release.

In-Complete
Reorganize PokéDex / Add & Remove from it.
Fix Weaknesses / Strengthens.
Sprite, and insert Delta Species.
Add Team Aqua & Magma to Red ROM.
Add Team Aqua & Magma's OWs to Red ROM.
Fix Pokémon Icon errors in menu from the reorganizing.
Fix Battle Cries of the reorganized Pokémon.
Map out Holon Island's first "Town" & Lab.
Script out the first event(s).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Progress & Screen Shot(s)

(Underneath you may view the screen shots with small notes that follows each).
Spoiler:

(The intro screen. I have a huuuge bug that I can not fix. More in the bug(s) section.
//Any help appropriated.
Few in-game shots of the beginning. Shows off the scripts, parts of the map.

(Level script / first "map". You're on your way!)

(The dock...)

(You made it!)

(Uh-oh.)

( )

(OUR JOURNEY BEGINS!)

^Decaps of all of the Poké stat menus (traits, nature, header, naming, etc.)^

^New DeltaDex, with new entries!^

Perfectly scaled down D/P/P Sprite(s) added, with new pallet(s).
(Update) All Abilites are now fixed. Check the PokèDex section for a full listing of the current changes.

edit: this screencap is old. Tyranitar's new typing is Rock / Electric and the ROM has changed to Fire Red.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Currently known of Bug(s);

- Still displays old effects in the descriptions of the attacks.
(Screen shot of in-game error that occured).
Spoiler:

edit: THIS BUG HAS BEEN FIXED!
(Don't worry, it won't really read like that. Just for testing purposes. And it passed...somewhat).

&
Spoiler:

(I can't change the Poké without crashing the ROM, and whenever I insert something other the Nido(f) it turns the screen black...)

- Icons are still of the old Pokémon
(Holds a small note, and a screen shot aswell).
Spoiler:

edit: As mentioned above, old, but the bug still exists...

Its about time someone did a hack based on a TCG expansion! While I never liked playing with the Delta Species cards (though I did find it cool), I have high hopes for this hack. I assume I can give a shot at spriting. Just PM me with what you specifically want.

Hey, thanks. Yeah, I thought was pretty cool, too. One of the reason why I wanted to make this hack. But the other was to just have something different out there. There's so many hacks that are the same as the others - and personally, I think there's alot to be changed about the RPG element itself as a game. Mainly the attacks, and etc, that some just very stupid - even usless at times. Anyway, thanks again for the comment. I might drop you a PM, then.

I love the concept here. It's quite an ambitious project but if you're dedicated enough, you could definitely pull it off. I love the "logical additions", plus the "free roaming" gameplay sounds fantastic (though very difficult to implement, mind you).
Best of luck to you!

Now I remember that in the later expansions of the Delta Species sets, that the Pokemon Star (which were like shiny pokemon in the tcg) had their type based on their color (Shiny Charizard was Dark-Type because its color was Black, per se'). Do you think it is possible to implement that in your hack?

Yeah, I know what you mean. But kind of knew, too, before walking into this that it'd be pretty difficult and as is, I'm still pretty limited. I couldn't implement everything I wanted to, but maybe as I get better at hacking I'll look into ASM and make a better translation from the TCG into the RPG. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts. It's always nice to get feedback.

Yeah, I already gave that some thought and I could do it - if I made them event based Pokѐmon and gave it's own 'slot' in the Pokѐdex, since it is a different 'species' and everything...maybe Charizard as Dark / Flying with Flashfire and can still learn fire based attacks? Or, Dark / Fire with Levitate? I don't know, I'll convert it over later on.

But in short, yes. I think it will be very possible to implement that one way, or another.

FINALLY! I've been waiting for a hack like this, thank you. I loved the delta species(especially the ones in dragon frontier) so it'll be cool to see them come to life in pokemon.

Now I wonder if someone will make a hack involving EXs and LVL Xs lol

Lol, yeah. I don't know. It might be harder to implement something like that...well, maybe not the Lv.X's - but having your Pokèmon evolve after already evolving might be kind of weird...in a cool way, I guess. But okay. Thanks, too, for checking this out. I'm trying to make as much progress as I can, just doing this alone, but hopefully I can get a beta together soon or something for ya.

// edit & side note; I've decided on G/S/C Starters' from the "Dragon Frontiers" TCG expansion. Also, if you read above; the "Shining Pokèmon" will be still be event driven, but you'll need special items like the ones Nintendo gives out in order to get them. You can get these items by competing in Tournaments, and by also, "give aways," or trading to others through our server using VBA Link.
In addition, I'll be hosting the server 24/7 until I can find another reliable host to take over for me.
And, I've updated the first post with all the changes above, but these changes and others are still subjective and may change again at some point in time.

I like your ideas and story. They are thought out and organized very well. The only thin I dislike though, is the fact that night is too dark... Why not make evening night and use a lighter colour for evening XD

I am really looking forward to see some screenshots =D

Ah, yeah. I guess I could adjust the coloring a bit more on the overlays...looking at it, I see it's a little dark, too. Thanks for noticing and telling me; I'll probably update the first post with the new overlays sometime soon.

// side note; I'm currently working on the G/S/C Delta Starters' sprites, fixing their pallets, and inserting their back sprites as well. Then I'll start working the PokèDex from there.

// final note; if you can run ROM Hacker XP, then I'd appreciate your help if you could insert the icons of the sprites for me. I'd do it myself, but whenever I try to run the .exe it comes up as a blank black screen the closes moments after. I'll add your name to the credits, and give you a trainer in-game or something. Thanks in advance.

Update;

Added 'fix' for the pallet overlays during Morning, Evening, and Night - they may not be final, yet, but they'll have to do for now. I can always go back and tweak them again if really needed. Also, I replaced the links with the screen caps themselfs, then fixed some minor things most people probably won't notice. And finally, some concept art of a "Delta Species".

Quick Update; I've changed the thread A LOT from where it was when I first uploaded it and started it yesterday. New features, some more removed, and a lot of other things revised along with all the minor updates listed above. Right now, I'm working on inserting Team Rocket, along with their overworlds, and then the Gym Leaders. I might also post a few more of the Delta Species if I sprite, or if someone I've been PM'ing about this, posts his.

The one thing that concerns me is the whole Tournament thing. I don't think it would be fair in the sense that 1: Players may not be strong enough to win tourneys and such may never get these event pokemon, and 2: Not everyone uses Hamachi. Plus is it even possible for games to work online on hamachi? Wouldn't there have to be a Gameboy Advanced emulator with Kaillera support for that?
I still support you none-the-less. Which reminds me, I gotta get onto that edit.

I've seen people use Hamachi for VBA linkups on Youtube with Ruby, which is the base I'm using...I don't see how it'd be any difference, aside from the obvious changes - but those shouldn't effect it. Also, you might be right about the Tournament thing, but I also said there would be "give away"s etc, since I understand that. It's just, the Tournament winners Pokѐmon will be holding a 'ribbon' like you'd get from winning any contests in-game, and maybe have it holding something - like Latios Delta being Dragon, Ice, with Levitate - holding it's Soul Dew, but the ones in "give away"s would just be the Deltaios. Also, there'd be rules, obviously - as in any tournament. And like the ones in-game with level restrictions for each category, etc. I don't know. I'm no where near ready for implementing that just yet, anyway.

// side note; I've added in a few of the sprites, along with their OWs, fixed pallets and checked for any bug(s) in-game, so far none.

Here is what I could make. It was my first Repose and my first time dealing with DP in a sprite edit kind of way, so I think I did ok with my first shot at it. I hope you like it.

It's pretty good, all considering. But, the legs don't look right. One should be hidden more, and the stomach goes in too much near the bottom. The arm is slightly off, too. I like the glow, however and the repose looks nice. Thanks alot, man. It's better than what I could do, but, I think I'll try to edit it a little more myself, and then re-post it here? Maybe I can fix up those small details...thanks again. I'll give you credit for the concept of the glow around the fire and stuff since it's not part of the TCG artwork, and I wouldn't have done it like that myself.

I didn't actually consider looking at the TCG artwork for it lol. And I'm normally not used to people who I spend effort for crticise my work, but what you said was quite constructive, thanks. Yeah of course you can edit it yourself.
I was hoping to find Cyndaquil in a similar pose to what I was aiming for, but no dice. I reccomend that when you do insert it you flip his position around so he'll be facing the same way all pokemon sprites do.

Sorry, but that was my honest opinion. And nothing is perfect - I thanked you for that effort, and I even gave you credit. Scroll up to the credits and see for yourself. It's been there a while. On another note, you asked me first - I waited, then sent you a PM saying you could try and I'd see how it looked. Iirc, if it did look up to par I'd add it to the hack, give you credit (which, again, I did anyway) and let you do more. I'll thank you one more time, and apologize if you misunderstood, or read differently, and them implied my tone in the last post. I'm more than gratful for your 'efforts' and this is one reason why there is an application to fill out in this thread, and in others, if you're going to do work for a hack. Proof, prior experience, and other things are necessary so no one gets their feelings hurt. And even then, if something needs to be fixed - it should be fixed. You should work on your sprites a little more, as I'm sure anyone else honestly answering would have pointed out those things, also, not to be mean - but to help. Which is why I was telling you, instead of going off, doing all the work again for you and then saying "this is how it should be". If you would like to practice, or do anymore sprites I'd be more than happy to at the least take a look at them and if you improve then add them in officially without any changes what-so-ever.

Heh, I think its you who took tones wrong, if I may say. I actually took your statement positively. So you just want the sprite to be toned up a bit more?
Regardless, I'd be happy to help with more sprite work for this. Your concept is very interesting, and I want to help bring this hack to life.

I think this one is a bit more of what I was looking for. It's still not perfect by any means, but my girlfriend seems to like it. xd Anyway, cool. I was going to re-do the Deltadile up there, just to get the starters out of the way. You can try that one, if you want. I think I went a little over board on the lighting...or, static. I need to do the back sprite for this, and insert it, then make the Pokédex entry along with all of it's revised stats, move pool etc. before I can start on the actual Beta of this hack. It's slow going since I'm doing it mainly by myself.

I could try with the Deltadile, but tommorow, its too late now. For his sparks, I was thinking why not use the electricity from the move Spark itself? And yeah I can get another shot at reposing.
And I know how slow hacks go when you are doing it alone. It makes the project more spectacular though if you ask me.
Also, do you want to keep these conversations on sprites here, or move it to a team topic or PM?

That's a pretty good idea. If you think you can, you should try it with the "repose" and see how it turns out. But you're right, it is getting late, and we should probably move this back to PM, or something. Spamming up the thread. So we'll continue this there, then.

The concept of this hack sounds interesting, if not difficult to actually play-out, but I am eager to see what the final result will be, however long that may take. It'd be interesting to see which direction you end up going throughout the story, and how the gameplay changes, from types to enemy trainers, etc. will affect the game. Anyway, good luck with this hack, I await to see what you end up doing with the concept.

Thanks, for the comment, and the support. Hopefully, you won't be disappointed.
But I've been updating and plan to keep updating regularly, so you shouldn't be waiting too long for that beta.

This obviously has a lot of thought put into it, and the Story is as if you were reading an awarded book. The features are good, can't wait to play!

Ha, an "awarded book," huh? Thanks.

Update; I've gone ahead and added a few in-game shots. No maps, or anything, yet. Just showing off one of the official Delta "Starters," and also a bug. I've also given a better before & after example of the 'pallet' changes, as you might be able to tell from the in-game shot it's not like the older one out of Pokémon Platinum...pallet wise.
One last thing, post a new "Bug" I could use some help with if anyone's willing to replace some icons...I'll make them, etc, just have to insert them for me. And I replaced the old "Shining Mew" with a newer one, check main post.

edit: I added this to the main post, also. I won't be adding in those D/P/P back sprites as they get too pixalated no matter how you scale it down and needs re-outlining. At this time, I don't have the time to do this. But! it may still be implemented later on down the line when the hack has progressed more and has more people working on things like that.
There will still be obvious back sprites, edited, both pallet wise and picture wise (if needed; Delta). I've attached a picture of the in-game battling back sprite, and added to it the main post, aswell.

//side note; for anyone interested in reading more. I've started on the PokéDex changes, if you haven't noticed by the screenshots alt typing, etc. but it also has a PokéDex entry that I can't screencap because I haven't scripted in the National PokéDex given to you, yet. Anyway, I'm going to finish up the other "Starters" and then start mapping out everything, and making the events. Any help would still be appreciated, fill out the form in the first post and PM it, or post it here. Thanks.
