The switch things seems like a better option, rather than having to download another copy of the same game with a few things changed (lollikeactualpokemongame).

You can set 'he' to a hero name to use in dialog, so instead of saying
"What is he up to" it would say "What is \n[1] up to"(well, in RM2k3 atleast)
If the girl is selected, just put in a code to change the "he" hero's name to "she."

that way you won't have to go back and rewrite all the dialouge.

Alright to clarify some answers:

If we weren't able to use a switch, the counterpart to Helio Version would be like Sapphire is to Ruby. There would also be major plot changes (differentiating roles, a different evil team, et cetera.) And to continue our story a little bit.

So, you have just finished beating your first Gym leader, and you found out your crush is a member of Team Solar. Determined to stop her, you chase her to Tern City. But Tern is teeming with Solar members looking for you, and the path up to Dunlin has been blocked by a rockslide, so its up to Avocet you go to get another badge and avoid the Solar members. After all, you here rumors that that's where your girlfriend went. After beating the leader in Avocet, you hear that Solar members have started a commotion in Avocet forest, but that's blocked by bushes, so you head back to Tern to see if the city has cleared up. Unfortunately, it hasn't, and you have to fight your way through some Solar grunts to meet up with the boss: General Julian, and his new best friend, the Mercenary. After verbally abusing you a little bit, as villains are wont to do, Julian sets the Mercenary on you, which you ably defeat. Julian calls for a retreat and leaves you with a warning: you are now a marked man.

Defeating the Tern leader doesn't give you the ability to use cut, so forward you to Dunlin. There we have a major plot point, but I have to get back to class soon [Holocaust day-invigorating] so expect that to come up soon.

I must say, I prefer this story, because the whole time your trying to save the girl you like from getting too deep in the crap thats going on around, and i think it would be awesome if in the end, you have to fight her, as she has become the new leader of Team Solar. I'd love the demo to come out as quickly as possible while still being top par. :D

Not to mention, if those starters were sprited by you Aquakip, then you are a god in spriting. I can only hope to get to your level.

Also: can someone explain more about Team Solar? How the team got started, what their goal is, where they get their money, and why people join? I like backstory.

Alright, so post 186 I explained who the founder of Team Solar was, what his goal is, what there stated (but not real) goal is (to make humanity more aware of the environment by polluting it). Why do people join? Well, Team Solar is mostly made up of con-men and escaped prisoners, who

join Team Solar so they can be given a place to live on Julian's moon colony in peace, and without fear from the law.

. Where do they get their money? Well, most of it comes from their leader's large array of finances (he used to be a League Champion, after all, and they make a lot of money), and the other part-well, the other part comes from blackmail, as you will see in the next section of the storyline.

Alright ladies and gentlemen, I'm pleased to announce that the Pokemon Helio Version Demo Trailer has officially been finished :D

I will be releasing it this coming Saturday [7/31], and I hope you will all enjoy it! I made it in High Def just so people would enjoy it more.

In other news, the switch that I am using to switch the storyline from Helios to Selene is working fine and I've done a bit of work with the female character's storyline, switching Selene to Helios and vice versa, and a few other things as well.

WHY IS KOFFING ONE OF THE STARTER CHOICES IN THE FIRST PLACE? I mean its okay for Selene to have a koffing, but it just doesn't seem right to get it in a Pokemon professor's lab, isn't there some other way you guys could do this.

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about.

At the beginning you are given a choice between choosing a male or choosing a female. This is much like Ruby and Sapphire and any games following it.

EDIT: AceDragonite: Imagine it to be like the Pikachu that Oak had. It is technically the '4th' starter, but inchoosable. Its more for plot.

Actually is was pokemon Crystal that introduced playing as a girl or boy first not Ruby and Sapphire. I just can't believe that some people overlook the second gen games anyway the trailer was amazing.

...the second generation was by far the best of the entire series, please do not question my loving of them. Yes, I know Crystal introduced the playablity of being a girl, but Ruby and Sapphire made the opposite choice into your rival, which is what we are doing. It is in this way that we are akin to Ruby and Sapphire, not Crystal.

I figured that I'd just simplify by saying the 3rd gen and on, because I consider the second gen to be more Gold/Silver esque, and they still had the player as a male. :/

And thanks for the comment about the trailer. I'm glad to know people are still watching it

Ottum is the mascot of Helio Version. We liken it to Marill. Its a mascot, but its not an electric rodent...but its still a rodent

Anyway, I'm still working on the demo, I have the majority of it done, actually. So that's pretty exciting. We're looking for a mid-to-late October release date if all goes well, with beta testing starting around late September.

Right, you can fancy this game up with all the sprites you want.
But it's not hiding the fact that, from what I can see(I'm judging from what I can see, there no point saying there is something and not showing it, I see that you don't have one.) You're story line is one of the worst I have ever seen, it's so "unpokemony". I don't see that going anywhere at all, I know this may see harsh but you need to do something about it. And even the plot is just classic standard pokemon. Sort this all out, and you'll have a real game.

Moving on, the sprites.
take this one.

The backsprite the outline could be better, see at the front, the outline is too patchy it doesn't look nice, more as it's missing, choose a darker shade to compliment the black.
And the same with the back, there seem to be a too heavy shade on the tail.
This seems to happen on most, if not all of your sprites.
