A question about this: Can it be combined with another challenge? E.g., can I write a story based on a playthrough being done for another challenge (assuming that I'm using a mainstream game for that challenge)?

Ok, I don't know how much time I'll have for this, but it sounds neat, so I'll sign up for it for now. I'm not sure how elaborate it's likely to be, but I'm assuming it's fine if it ends up being fairly short.

My assumption (as a fellow participant, not the person who made this) is that we can update whenever we want.

Speaking of which, I'm hoping to start on my story soon, but I haven't had time yet. (I guess that's been an issue for all of us, since no one has actually started a story yet.)

To get this started, I'll do an update based on my recent Time Warp (Jurassic Jam subtype) challenge.

[No Marts except for Fresh Water to unlock Saffron and 10 Revives + 10 Full Restores before Elite Four. Only Fire, Bug, and Water types (except for the cute-looking ones) allowed in general, but fossils also must be resurrected and added to the team. Ice, Electric, and Steel types banned.]

Update 1: Help! I'm Trapped In Prehistoric Times And All I Got Was This Lousy Carp
[Pallet Town-Rock Tunnel.]
Spoiler:

Emergency Panic Log #1
I'm doomed! I'm doomed!

Uh... Dad always said writing down stuff helps you think. So let's focu-- I'M STILL DOOMED!

Um, right. So... let's recap. Sneaked into the Time Machine when none of the adults were looking... hit a few buttons... and now it says it's out of power...

Well, it says this is one of the spatially-locked models, so I'm in Kanto. Not that it looks anything like it.

I'm just going to hyperventilate and pass out now.

Emergency Panic Log #2
Managed to catch a stray Fire-type with the PokeBall I had in my backpack. Not sure of the species, but it appears to be some sort of fiery lizard. I wish I'd paid more attention to the palentology sections of the museums I visited as a kid.

Oddly, there are people present here. I guess I couldn't have gone too far back. At least, not before humans evolved.

Unfortunately, I don't speak the language, none of them like the weird foreigner, and this place doesn't seem to have anything I can even begin to use to refuel the Time Machine. I'm going to leave it here for now and go to another settlement. They say there's one to the north.

Emergency Panic Log #3
Still nothing. This settlement is bigger than the last one, but not by much. The only distinguishing feature is a large, ominous building that appears to be barred from the inside.

I ventured to the west and got into a fight with one of the locals -- not sure what he was jabbering at me, but I defeated him anyway. He appeared to be using a Pidgey (good grief, even back in these times?) and some sort of prehistoric turtle. Past him, there was a long path guarded by several burly men. I decided to retreat for now.

North, there's apparently an enormous forest. My Fire-type should be able to handle it, but I want to rest up for now. I've discovered that, if I look harmless enough, I can beg for food and a place to sleep. I suppose some people are generous in all times.

Emergency Panic Log #4
Made my way north. This forest really is huge! I guess people aren't kidding about what places looked like before logging...

It seems the young men of the local tribe specialize in training Bug-types as their companions. If I didn't have a Fire-type with me, I might have been in trouble -- fortunately, I do. They were actually impressed enough to teach me how to bind one to me. It's some sort of caterpillar-looking thing. I guess Bug Pokemon are just that ubiquitous.

Apparently the tribe up ahead is hostile to all outsiders. I'd avoid them, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life in this era, and I've seen nothing that could recharge the Time Machine. Onwards I go, I guess.

Emergency Panic Log #5
I spent a long time training before heading upwards -- my Bug-type's evolved into some sort of cocoon thing. Can't say it's gotten any less helpful than it was, honestly. Still, it's not like I had any choice in training -- I managed to gather enough information from pantomimes and grunts with the Bug-warriors to learn that the upcoming tribe specialized in Rock-types. I have only a Fire lizard and a cocooned Bug. I'm doomed.

Or I thought I would be, but it turns out that I'm in a sufficiently primitive era that even the "Rock" specialists hadn't actually learned Rock-type moves. The chieftain's son was actually using Ground-types rather than Rocks, and the chieftain himself had some sort of technique emphasizing patience before retaliation. Once I figured out how it worked, I was able to wait it out, with the aid of some medicinal plants I found in the forest, and eventually defeat him. They grudgingly let me pass after that.

I gather the next hostile tribe has something to do with the moon. What does that even mean? Fairy-types?

Emergency Panic Log #6
Apparently it had nothing to do with their types of Pokemon and everything to do with their religious beliefs. From what I can gather, they use fairly ordinary Pokemon -- like snakes, birds, and rats -- and believe that the moonlight occasionally descends upon the Earth in the form of Pokemon, who will give the chosen mysterious powers.

I have no idea what they mean, but they accepted me as one of them after I defeated their best, and let me rest in a spare hut. In fact, if I understood their sign language correctly, they want me to take care of some... evil spirits who invaded their sacred mountain? It was unclear, but why not. My Pokemon are getting stronger.

Emergency Panic Log #7
The cocoon finally opened, revealing a giant moth-like creature. Of all things, it seems to have rudimentary psychic powers. It just stares at things with its creepy multifaceted eyes, and they fall over.

Don't tell it that I called it creepy. Wait, am I talking to my diary? I'm cracking up...

Anyway, my Fire-type also evolved. It's turned an angry red, become prone to rages, and begun to develop a horn. Its claws have grown longer as well. Fortunately, it still follows my commands. I can't even describe how relieved I am by that.

I found the "evil spirits". It turns out they're just a bunch of bandits who dress up in demonic costumes and use confusing Pokemon techniques to scare people off so they can take their stuff. I sent them howling off. In return, the Moon Tribe let me take some of the things the bandits dropped as a reward.

The road down from the mountain looks awfully steep. I don't know if I'll be able to climb back up...

Emergency Panic Log #8
Ugh! I tripped and rolled way too fast downhill. Managed to hold onto my bag, but I'm not climbing back up any time soon.

Hurts even to write this, really. Fortunately, the nearby tribe's friendly. They're letting me rest with them, and I'm beginning to pick up enough of the language to hold rudimentary conversations. No more pointing and grunting if I can help it!

I appear to be in some sort of coastal region -- lots of both greenery and water. To the north is some sort of enormous bridge, over which lives a "great sage", if I understood correctly. Perhaps he can give me some idea of how to recharge the Time Machine. I've been thinking, and enough energy of any sort should recharge it. It has to be processed first, though. According to what I remember of archeology, the proper technique has been around almost as long as humans have, but only rare places actually had the right architecture to set up the focusing mechanisms.

Oh well. Once I'm healed up enough, I'll go see the sage.

Emergency Panic Log #9
Lousy few days.

First some guy rushes up and jabbers at me, then attacks me -- I couldn't even figure out what his problem was after I beat him, but I just think I remembered. Was he the same guy who got into a fight with me near the start of the journey? Maybe he wants revenge. I don't know. My psychic moth and Fire lizard sent him packing.

Then I go across the bridge and get challenged by several proto-Trainers to win a big prize. Great, right? Except it turns out that I somehow stumbled upon an initiation ritual into that bunch of bandits from earlier! They offered me a mask and everything. In fact, they were still trying it after I refused their "recruitment pitch" by force. Kind of pathetic. It's not even like my Pokemon are that strong, so I'm guessing they're just weak bullies who beat up on the defenseless. Ugh, so much about "man in his native state" being free of civilized vices.

Then I make my way through all the OTHER people trying to find the sage, and...

Ugh. Just. GAH. I NEVER want to EVER see ANYTHING like that -- ANYTHING like that AGAIN!

Long story short, I just refuse to write down what I saw inside the sage's hut. I refuse.

All I'll say is that it was some sort of weird fusion ritual. Maybe he was trying to invent Mega Evolution -- I don't know. I helped him "undo" it (I don't even want to know what happened to the poor Pokemon), took a scrap of hide with writing on it in exchange for never speaking of this again, and ran out of there so quickly that I would have had to dive into the water to get back to the settlement any faster. Makes me almost wish I'd learned to swim. I DON'T FEEL CLEAN.

More tomorrow. My skin is still crawling.

Emergency Panic Log #10
Do those bandits never go away?! I chased down one who mugged a local couple and made him return what he'd stolen. In exchange, the couple taught my Fire-type to dig underground. Might be useful for getting out of places in a hurry.

The people here apparently don't think I'll be qualified to take on the dangers to the east until after I prove my skill by defeating the local Priestess of Water -- a bold redhead with two eerie-looking star-shaped Pokemon. Since my strongest Pokemon's still my Fire-type, and the bigger star seems to have psychic powers of its own, I'm going to avoid that for as long as I can. The south's apparently fine by their standards, so I'll go there instead.

Emergency Panic Log #11
Well, I'm in yet another settlement. They didn't tell me about that.

This one seems pretty arrogant -- they believe in the supremacy of the Thunder God, who passes down his orders through their Lightning Chieftain. As such, they're the best around, and they're going to prove it by constructing the world's biggest boat and sending it off to new shores.

At least one guy was friendly enough to give me a rudimentary fishing rod. I took advantage of it to fish myself up an odd-looking carp. It seems incredibly weak -- even worse than my moth was back when it was a caterpillar -- but I'm going to train it up anyway. I distinctly remember it being part of some major exhibit in one of the museums I visited, so it must be important. I'm hauling it behind me in a water-filled, leaf-lined wooden bucket (with stones passing for wheels) when we're not near water. Considering the amount of effort it takes to do this, keep refilling its bucket, and make sure nothing swoops down and eats the poor thing, it had better be worth it.

Going to go fight warriors off at the "Training Grounds" to the east, then sit and consider my options.

Emergency Panic Log #12
I tried to take a look at the big boat, but a burly man confronted me and started jabbering at me.

Fortunately, I dropped the piece of hide that despicable "sage" gave me when I was stepping away from him, and it must have been something important, because now he thinks I'm part of the construction team. I'm not, but I at least managed to get my Pokemon a workout sparring against the sailors.

Also, that guy who took offense to me apparently is part of the construction team, because I fought him again. And then he ran off. Today I learned that Raticates and Pidgeotto really do exist in every era. (I don't like the look of that Psychic-type he has, though. My Fire-type had the resilience not to fall over when it glared at it, and it couldn't take a physical hit, but its powers will grow. Last time, it just sat there snoozing. The improvement is disturbing.)

But apparently I'm a big hero now because I gave the boat's "captain" some of the herbal medicine I picked up back in the sacred mountain so he'd stop lying in a heap and occasionally vomiting. Poor guy. I have to say, I don't have much confidence for the future of this boat if he relapses. Hubris, hubris...

Not much else to say. The helpless carp can at least weakly tackle things now. The moth is producing some form of moderate-strength nerve toxin... I'm not sure what I'm unleashing upon the world. Finally, the captain taught my rage-prone fire-breathing lizard to cut down small trees with a single swipe of its claws. I'm kind of worried...

Emergency Panic Log #13
Finally felt strong enough to go back and take on the Water Priestess. I tried to go east from the boat place, but there was some sort of enormous, unmoving Pokemon in the way. When I sent the moth over it to take a look, the beast snatched it out of the air and attempted to stuff it into its gaping mouth. I had to order my lizard to burn its paw repeatedly before it would let the moth go.

The worst thing is, I don't think it woke up the entire time. And it barely looked singed even after my lizard did all it could to burn it. I think I'm going elsewhere for a while. Such as forever.

There was also a nearby cave carved out by mole Pokemon, but I was attacked by a cluster of three moles at once and barely escaped with my life. Let's just go for the Priestess, shall we. At least she won't be going for blood... I think.

Emergency Panic Log #14
Short update this time.

So I beat the first star creature, with a bit of difficulty. (Is it really even a Pokemon? It looks... creepy...) Then the second beat up BOTH my Pokemon with powerful jets of water.

And I thought I'd lost. I was about to concede and walk away...

...and then my freaking CARP hops out of its bucket, sails towards the bigger star-creature, and knocks it over with a dull thump. And the star-creature doesn't get up.

I was declared the victor since the carp was still hopping around on top of the star and the star wasn't twitching. I... I don't even... I, um... I don't even know. I still keep wondering if it was a spectacularly weird dream and I'm still due to fight her tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm now certified to take on the path to the east. I want to do one more thing, though.

After my embarrassing "victory" against the Water Priestess, I want to deflate that "Lightning Chieftain" to the south. He's bound to be easier than her without being strong against my Fire-type. Besides, I'm pretty sure that digging-technique my Fire-type learned from the grateful couple qualifies as a Ground-type attack, which means that his Electric-types will fall right down.

And, if he's really a master of Electric-types, maybe he can help me recharge my Time Machine. Maybe?

Emergency Panic Update #15
Well, that was a wash.

The Lightning Chieftain's underlings were easy -- the digging-technique worked as well as predicted -- but the man himself was a coward and hid behind a complicated switch mechanism, like the sort of tomb-robber trap you'd see in fancy action movies. The problem was that the darned thing kept resetting. And all of the switches were hidden beneath manure.

Suffice to say that he told me a decent amount to avoid getting throttled.

As best I could tell through the language barrier, the long path to the west of the forest area leads to the "land of the gods", which may only be accessed by the greatest warriors who have proven their skill by defeating the chiefs of all eight major tribes. With him, I've beaten the third. I'll also need to defeat the Plant Witch, the Poison Warrior, the Great Shaman, the Volcano King, and the Forest Lord. Whatever those are. He couldn't give me any more information than that. Apparently, for all his tough talk, he inherited this job from his dad and doesn't actually know how to control electricity -- all his Pokemon were his dad's, and the old man's the one who taught them all he knew before he kicked the bucket.

Well, back to the road east of the coastal settlement, I guess. Me, my lizard, my moth, and my carp.

If I ever do get home, I swear I'm going to spend a month doing nothing more than lying prone on my couch and watching TV. I've earned it.

Emergency Panic Update #16
I've apparently come to a natural cave formation that will "lead me to the underworld" if I succeed in my rite of passage. Knowing this era, it's probably just another tribe.

BUT WHO CARES?! THAT CARP EVOLVED! AND SWEET BLAZES, DID IT EVER EVOLVE!

I had just finished fighting a mountain man when it started glowing and -- it -- I swear it quadrupled in size! At least! And -- well -- it's not helpless any more. Oh no.

In fact, people just cowered before me and cleared off an area for me to recline. It's not exactly what I wanted. I backtracked to the coastal settlement and took the Water Priestess up on her offer to teach one of my Pokemon her special technique, and, while she was doing so, I sat down to think.

I may be a total idiot when it comes to paleontology, but I recognize this thing. I don't remember what it's called, but I know what it is -- some sort of water serpent of mighty power said to wreak havoc and destruction upon hapless settlements. It plays a major role in mythology and various ancient paintings. I think some sports team even has it for a mascot (which makes my inability to remember the name even more embarrassing).

It seems to obey me, though. Maybe it feels some loyalty to me because I raised it from such a weakling? I don't know. I'm just grateful. (And slightly worried.)

I'll be heading out to the "passage to the underworld" tomorrow. This should be interesting. With this great serpent by my side, I don't think I can lose. (As an added bonus, it doesn't seem to require constant hydration now that it's evolved! On the downside, now it flies...)

I'll still keep training up my other Pokemon, though.

If this thing goes berserk, it's going to be my responsibility to stop it...

Finally got around to starting my challenge. As I stated in my sign up the game I'm playing is Pearl and I am combining it with the pokemon clan war challenge.
My Story is called The Clan Wars of Sinnoh and this is the first chapter called The Journey Begins. This chapter is just introducing some of the main characters for the most part.
Spoiler:
My name is Flint and this is the story of how I managed to bring an end to the Sinnoh Clan Wars.
First off let me tell you a little about me and where I am from. My homeland of Sinnoh once a nation split into 17 different clans with 8 clans ruling over different cities. And the rest of the clans lived for other cities, not always peacefully. The city in which I lived had two clans, the Normal Type clan and my clan The Rock Type clan. Our two clans had a bad history between us and were constantly warring with each other thought right now we were in a tenuous peace agreement that I knew wouldn’t last long. I hated all the fighting and thought the warring between the clans was stupid so vowed to put an end to it when I started my journey. I am 17 years of age. I have medium length black hair; I my usual outfit consists of a plain black shirt, dark blue pants, a plain black ring and a pendant in the shape of a Larvitar, the latter two I acquired on the course of my journey. Oh and I am also the son of the Rock Clan Warleader and the next Warleader of the clan.
My story begins on the day I received my partner Larvitar. It was my 16th birthday and my father me into his office. I entered his office and saw not only my parents but the clan shaman who was responsible for giving each warrior three Pokémon to choose from to be their partner. Next to the shaman were three Pokémon: a Larvitar, Cranidos and Solrock. “Flint my son, today is that you prove the strength of the Rock Type Clan and go out and crush our enemies with one of these three Pokémon.” my father started telling me. But all I heard was blah blah destroy blah blah blah crush our enemies, blah. So instead of listening to my father I was looking at the three Pokémon I had to choose from. Both Cranidos and Solrock were raring to go hoping to be chosen to help fulfil my father’s desire. The third Pokémon Larvitar looked like that last thing it wanted to do was fight. I knew right then that I wanted Larvitar as my partner. So while my father was still yammering on I walked up to the shaman and picked up Larvitar and said to it with a smile “Alright Larvitar, from this point you and I are partners. Whataya say”? It looked at me and then bit my hand. “Ow!” I exclaimed as I dropped Larvitar. It started glaring at me so I bent down placed my hand on its head and whispered so only it could hear “I chose you not to continue the fighting but to stop it”. Larvitar realising what I said stopped glaring at started cheering happily. “What did you say to it Flint?” My father asked curiously. “Nothing I’m repeating to you.” I told him curtly as I picked up Larvitar walked out of his office.
I walked to my room carrying Larvitar and when I got to my room I placed Larvitar on the bed and starting packing things I’d need on my journey. As I was packing spare clothes I heard my door open. I turned around and saw my mother standing in the doorway. “May I come in dear?” she asked. “Did dad send you?” I asked back while still packing. She shook her head smiling and answered “No I just came in to see you off”. “Thanks Mum.” I said with a smile. I finished packing the rest of what I needed. I hugged my mum and said “Bye Mum, I’ll try and write to you know and then”. She hugged me back and responded “Be safe on your journey my son”. “I will Mum.” I told her as I walked out the door with Larvitar following at my heels.
As I walked through my village heading to Route 201 I knew that this would be the last time I would see my home for a while. As I stepped onto Route 201 I decided to take one last look at Lake Verity and gaze at it one last time before I left on my journey so Larvitar and I headed to the Verity Lakefront. As we arrived at the lake we saw that others were also at the lake. One was a young man slightly older than me with medium length blonde hair, orange and white striped shirt and brown pants and he had a Happiny on his shoulder. The other was a girl my age with long blue hair, a black vest over a white shirt and a black skirt that went to her knees and she had a Porygon at her side. I called out to them “Yo Dawn, Norman”. They turned around and saw me and started waving. “Hey Flint.” they both said in unison. Dawn and Norman were my two closest friends but we had to keep our friendship a secret as they were the children of the Warlord of the Normal Type Clan. I also had a huge crush on Dawn “So I see you chose Larvitar as your partner.” Norman said with his usual grin. I nodded and answered “Yeah. He’s gonna help me stop these stupid clan wars”. Dawn looked at me and asked in surprise “You were serious about that?” “Yeah, it’s pointless, stupid and causes unnecessary problems.” I answered. And it also means that I could never ask you out or marry you while the clans are at war I added in my head. “I’ll help you to put a stop the clan wars bro.” Norman told me holding his hand. I clasped it in gratitude glad that it wouldn’t be just me trying to stop this stupid feuding. “Alright Flint I gotta go. Seeya.” Norman told me bolting off. Dawn rolled her eyes and said exasperatedly “My brother can never stay still long enough, he always has to keep moving”. She then turned to me and told me “I’ll help out too Flint. So if you need me I’ll be there”. Then she too walked off ready to start her journey as well. I stood staring out at the lake for about ten minutes then Larvitar and I walked off down Route 201 and as I walked down that route I had no idea what crazy adventures were waiting for me.
We're not pawns of some scripted fate. I believe we're more. Much more... There's something between us all. Something that keeps us together... Like...invisible ties, connecting us.
