Okay. Well, I have my orthodontist appointment tomorrow. My mom said I have a choice of getting braces or invisalign.

What would be better?

I think braces require too much work and effort. They look kinda cool, but idk...I wouldn't feel like giving up popcorn and all that other stuff you can't eat. Plus, I'd be afraid of getting my lips stuck in them. I had the choice of getting them for my overbite and bottom teeth, but I was like "um, hell no, let's leave lol" but my sister has them, and UGH. I wouldn't be able to stand it. Invisalign is more expensive...or so I've heard, but I say go with that.

Yeah. All the kids at school with braces allways end up breaking brackets or something.

My mom would pay for either. My grandpa left her enough money in his will...haha. She said she'll make an appointment with invisalign if I really wanted it.

If you don't mind getting food stuck in your braces all the time, as well as spending the first few months getting aphthas all over your inner lips, plus the fact that you won't be able to eat anything solid for the first few days... go with braces.

I'll be honest though - I've no idea how invisalign fares compared to this.

Invisalign, if you can afford it, just put it, really. I personally hate braces.

Well I'm getting braces soon. I don't think my family has enough money for invisalign anyway. I don't mind having to have that bit of pain, or go through all that food being stuck (my teeth are so horrible, I'm already constantly getting food stuck in my teeth! D: )

I don't know much about invisalign, but if you can afford it, it'd be a lot easier, and if you care about what it looks like, well nobody will be able to see it. But braces are pretty common, I mean, I never see anyone getting made fun of about them... just something on your teeth

It's really your decision, but I'd go with Invisalign. Braces are a real hassle, you have to brush your teeth three times a day and each time floss and use a special brush to go behind the wires and it's just really irritating. I've never heard of invisalign but from what I've just seen from a quick Google search it looks a lot less difficult.

Braces, they're cheaper. I've never really heard of invisalign. So yea, I would choose braces.

Well, I just got back from my orthodontist appointment. I'm getting my braces on Wednesday, top and bottom. They said I'm only going to have them on for 12-14 months.

So now, any tips?

I'd say braces. That's mainly because I've never heard of "invisaline", but partly because I had braces for 1.5 years a couple of years ago. I never really found anything wrong with them and all I had to really give up were apples (unless they're cut up) ,toffee and I basically never ate any gum anyway.

...So... what's this "invisaline"?

I had to wear braces for three years (my teeth were messed up), but I never really had any problems with them. Sure, you can't eat certain things, but it's not like it's forever...

(I have no clue what 'invisalign' is either. xD)

You'll not kiss a boy in 12-14 months and you will not eat some things that you may like in 12-14 months. So, do what the doctor said to you before those 12-14 months become more time. Besides that, enjoy you're braces, take a lot of pics, you'll only have them once in a lifetime =D

Go with Invisalign. You can eat more freely and you don't have the look of ugly braces on your teeth.

Most people use conventional braces because dental insurance usually won't cover Invisalign, but since your mother can afford it go with Invisalign.

Braces. The orthodontists tend to have a problem taking off the invisilign, so I say you should go with braces.

have fun with braces! don't worry I'm sure you'll be able to kiss... maybe.... but it would probably be easy to go single! Though... they don't cause THAT much of a problem do they? I'll be having mine on for like 3 years I think

I don't think it'd be a problem kissing unless the other guy has braces x3 but I don't have a boyfriend so I don't need to worry.

My orthodontist said I can have sugar-free gum. That's the only thing that worried me...haha.

Just some reassuring comments about choosing braces:
My sister has invisalign and she says that every time you get used to your new set, you just hafta change it again. So I think braces hurt less in the long run. And she says that you drool a lot when taking them out so you won't hafta worry about that :D

I have braces, and well it doesn't hurt that much. The first time (getting them on) hurt the most, but usually only when I was eating. Otherwise its just mostly numbness for the first couple of days.

A year sounds pretty short, but it might take longer. So don't expect it to be exactly 14months. Expect it to be a lot later so you won't be disappointed? :D

I would say avoid chewing on hard things with the back of your teeth, it might loosen those bands in the back
Also, check the mirror after meals, you never know when you might have some obvious food caught in there.
If you ever like puncture the inside of your mouth with your braces, use wax and wait till it heals up.

So yeah. That's about it. You get used to it though

Thanks everyone.

I hope it doesn't have to be longer. The orthodontist said I only have some overlaping but, who knows.

Plus, I have one wisdom tooth coming in(yay). :/

lucky you. I have to get all four of my wisdom teeth roots ripped out before I can get the braces, because there's no room for them. I'll also be getting one in the front taken out. It'll only be a little gap.... but still. Stupid teeth.

My one wisdom tooth is still in there so it'll be a while. My brother just had all four of his ripped out.

You're lucky you have a choice. I have to go with braces and have all four wisdom teeth removed. That's all going to be a long process of 3 years and $7000 dollars later. I've never heard of invisalign before, but I might ask about it. Consider yourself lucky.

Just a note, Invisalign doesn't get stuck becuase you don't leave them there the whole time. You change them periodically.

I had braces for a year and a half, but I was 12 and 13 at the time and honestly it wasn't that a big deal for me socially. I never did all the extra flossing and brushing that they tell you need to do, so if you did get braces I would just say don't bother doing anything extra then what you normally do. Of course, I'm not a dentist, but I have been told by the dentist that I have great teeth and I've never flossed once in my life.

The worst part about braces is that first week after you get them. You won't be able to eat anything simply because your teeth will hurt so much. That goes away, but then you'll have to get them tightened regularly and that will bring back some of the pain.

Seven Thousand dollars!? Jesus, I don't think I've ever been more grateful to the NHS. I've had 2 different kinds of braces and I think 3 teeth pulled out, so god knows how much that would have cost over-the-pond.
