In Red, how can I successfully capture the Glitch Pokémon PokéWTrainer without having the game freeze the second the battle with it begins? I've heard that it and .4 can really screw up your game, and that's what I'm trying to do. (I've already captured .4)

And sorry for the bump.

When doing the celebi egg glitch, how do you determine what moves it will have when it hatches, or is it just random?

I've performed the Missingno. glitch, given myself hella Rare Candies, seen the truck, and been to glitch city. What I really want to do now is collect information on all the different RBY glitch Pokemon.

The richest resource I've found thusfar is Glitch City Laboratories; unfortunately, this site has been down for some time. Therefore, I have had to rely on the wayback archive to find information from that website...and the archive doesn't have all the pages saved. :(

It's something I want to include in the hack I'm working on. I want to pay homage to these stories and rumors that we've likely all heard in our childhood. I'm including in my hack things such as glitch city and the glitch Pokemon (like PokeWTrainer and other strong ones), but I can't seem to find complete information (as in base stats, movelists, TM lists, etc) on all the glitch Pokemon anywhere. Does anybody here know of a resource I could access to help me? It would be much appreciated. :)

Each species of Pokemon has a set of moves that it will be born with. From this table, Bulbasaur should start with just Tackle. I think. It might have Growl as well. Celebi would start with Leech Seed, Confusion, Heal Bell and Recover. Probably.

Bulbapedia actually has some nice pages on glitch pokemon and glitch move. I would check that out.

I remember doing the Mew glitch in Red, and it recieved a permanent spot in my team. I even did the Missingno glitch, I remember catching it a few times. However, whenever I did, I never saved, because I didn't want my game to screw up. I even used it to get like 99 masterballs. Then, I lost my Red cartridge. Poop.

HAHA! I had begun to tell myself that Pokegods didn't exist after years of solidly believing them cause some kid showed me "Pikablu" just like that one, it had Surf and Fly as well. To think it was actually obtainable through normal means and I must've offered that guy every pokemon I had.

I have a question, I apologize if it's been asked.

Why does MissingNo have a base stat for Defense of 0?

I played a ROM of JPN Green version, and did not encounter the Japanese Missingno (けつばん) with the old man glitch.

Just discovered this:

In Generation I if Ditto (or another Pokémon with only Transform) faces another Pokémon with Transform in a Trainer battle where neither Trainer has any items and no Pokémon besides the Pokémon with Transform, the battle will never end. This is because when Transform is used, the Pokémon will turn into its opponent, resulting in a Transform moveset of, again, only Transform. Since every time Transform is used, it gives the Pokémon using it the target's moveset with 5 PP each, Transform will continue to Transform into itself, restoring the PP every time it is used. Due to this, one will never reach a point where it can only use Struggle, unlike Wynaut and Wobbuffet in later generations who, although they too have no directly damaging moves, will eventually run out of PP and thus be able to use Struggle. This is likely why few Trainers have Ditto in the Generation I games.
This bug is not present in any other games because of a change in Transform mechanics: from Generation II onwards, it is not possible to Transform into a Pokémon that is the Transformation of another Pokémon.

I've played about with all the glitches :D I read about the Missingno glitch in a Pokemon magazine (I think it was Pokemon World) so I thought I'd give it a go; it blew my little mind as a child

Glitch City is awesome. I love Pikachu going all crazy in Pokemon Yellow, hehe.

It's purely a coincidence. Almost everything about Missingno is the game trying to read data from the wrong places as if it were a Pokémon, and a Game Boy game being designed around the restrictions of twenty-year old technology doesn't have much in the way of checks to make sure things aren't being read incorrectly. In Missingno's case, the game is being told to read values that are meant to be the party lists for some Biker class trainers, as if they were the values for determining Pokémon information:

The first Biker has a level 33 Muk (Number 136 in the game's internal Pokémon list) - a marker (0) indicates the end of his party data. The next one has a party of level 29 Voltorbs (Number 6 in the Pokémon list)

Missingno's Base HP is 33, Attack 136, Defence 0, Special 6, Speed 29.

This goes on for the rest of Missingno's data - movelist (hence the double water guns), typing (why it uses the Bird type is another happy coincidence) catch rate and so forth.

Information sourced form here.

Ever since I was a kid, I've loved the glitches on Pokemon. Back then, all that was really known was Missingno. Recently, I picked back up my Yellow and Crystal versions, and since then, I've been exploring the darkest regions of the game. Some new glitches have popped up, and they are known in only a few parts of the internet. I'll be compiling them here.

Crystal Glitches:

How to make ANY captured Pokemon shiny [Crystal]:
Spoiler:

I absolutely love this glitch, and I use it to flash around some impressive Pokemon. This is a party I made using it (and also the Celebi glitch, but that's for a later time):

These instructions are how to make any captured non-shiny Pokemon into a shiny one on Pokemon Crystal.
First, you need a shiny Pokemon. Any will do. I started out making shiny Pokemon with one from the mysterious egg I got from the day-care center, which happened to hatch shiny for me, but in this tutorial I will be using a shiny Ditto.

Second, choose the Pokemon you would like to make into a shiny. Electrode is my choice.

Third, you'll need a damper Pokemon so you can deposit both the shiny Pokemon and the non-shiny Pokemon (anything will do, I'll be using my Lugia)

(This is my party)
Now onto the meat of the tutorial.

Position your Pokemon in your party like so: Non-shiny, shiny, damper.
Now to start with the glitch. Save the game, then choose an empty box, (mine will be Box 8). Into this box, deposit your non-shiny Pokemon and your shiny Pokemon.

Now select "Change box" and press A. Select any box, and when it asks to save the game, select "Yes" and "Yes" again. Right after the period on the message, "Saving, don't turn off the power." turn off the power. Turn the game back on, and if you did it correctly, there should be your non-shiny and shiny both in the PC and in your party. Congratulations, you've successfully cloned Pokemon.

However cool that was, it isn't the end product we're looking for. Withdraw the two Pokemon from the PC and make your party follow this suit: Non-shiny, shiny, non-shiny, shiny, damper.

Save your game, and prepare yourself for some more cloning. Deposit all 4 of your Pokemon once again, and follow the cloning process I taught you in the last step until there are 16 Pokemon in the box, and 4 in your party (not including the damper).
At this point, deposit a non-shiny and a shiny and save your game. Now deposit your last two, and clone them. You should now have 20 alternating (non, shiny, non, shiny, non, ect...) Pokemon in the box, and 3 in your party (non, shiny, damper).

You are now ready for the final (and most difficult) step.
Withdraw the first Pokemon in the box, and immediately deposit it back into the box. [if your non-shiny Pokemon was first, the box should now start with a shiny, and alternate the same way as before (shiny, non-shiny, shiny, ect...)]
Select "Change Box" and follow the cloning step processes, but this time, you need much more precise timing for shutting off the game. Immediately after you see the period, shut off the game. Turn it back on, and check the box. If the nicknames are changed to the other Pokemon's name, you have done it correctly, if not you must try again. Simply withdraw the first Pokemon again, and deposit it once more, follow the cloning process again. Patience is key here.

Once you've done it correctly, look through all of the Pokemon. Many of them will have different sprites, but actually be the original shiny Pokemon (such as the following: I got sprites of a shiny Electrode, but in the stats screen, it said Ditto/Ditto) this isn't what we're looking for. Look in the stats screen for the one that says [shiny Pokemon name]/[non-shiny Pokemon name] (obviously, replace the bracketed objects with your Pokemon's name) and has a shiny sprite of the Pokemon you were trying to make shiny.

[On occasion, this Pokemon isn't there. You'll have to release all the Pokemon in the box and start over. It sucks, but I've had it happen to me before. This glitch is the reason I keep the two originals in my party at all times.]
Withdraw this Pokemon, and take them to the Name Rater in Goldenrod. Rename them whatever you want and CONGRATULATIONS. You just made a shiny Pokemon!

How to get all 3 starters [Crystal]:
This is one of my personal favorite glitches. It's incredibly simple to do, and doesn't take much time at all.
Spoiler:
Start a new game, and get to where you choose your Pokemon. Save in front of the Pokeballs before you choose.

Choose whichever Pokemon you want, and head out to Mr. Pokemon's house.

Defeat your rival, and head back to the Professor's house.

Receive the Pokeballs.

Give one to your starter.

Catch any Pokemon in the wild.

Go to the Pokemon center, and deposit your starter.

Go to "Change Box" and turn off the game when the period in "Saving game, don't turn off the power." appears.
Turn the game back on, if you did it right, you should appear in front of the starter Pokeballs again. Choose your second starter.

Run directly to the Pokemon Center. Check your PC. Your first starter should be there, holding a Pokeball.

Take the Pokeball and catch a random Pokemon in the wild.

Deposit your two Pokemon again.

Change box, turn off the power at the period again.
Turn the game back on. Take your third starter.

Head back to the PC. If all has gone correctly, you should have all three starters!

If you found this helpful, leave a message and let me know.
Also, which of the coming soon glitches are you most interested in? These tutorials are difficult to write, so I'll need to know where to focus my energies.

How to get a level 100 Pokemon before Brock
Spoiler:
Begin the game, and continue through the forest. Save when you first enter so if you mess anything up, you can reset to here.

Now, you must head through the forest and watch out for this trainer. It's VERY important that you don't battle him!

Continue through to Pewter city. DO NOT BATTLE BROCK.
In Pewter City, head to the Pokemart and buy several Pokeballs and an Escape Rope.

This is optional, but it makes your life easier, you may want to catch a level 3 Pokemon.
Now read these instructions CAREFULLY!

Heal at the Pokemon center. Even if you don't need it; DO IT.
Head back to where the trainer I told you not to battle was. Stay out of his sights. Save now!
Walk forward one step, to where he can just see you, and IMMEDIATELY press start. If you did it correctly, you'll be in his sights, but he hasn't gotten the exclamation point over his head yet. Use your escape rope.

(at this point, the start menu will not work momentarily)
In Pewter, head to the guy that tells you about the gym and have him walk you to the gym.

Battle a Pokemon in the patch of grass just below Pewter (this Pokemon determines which Pokemon appears, if you want a certain Pokemon, see what you can find here!), and use growl 6 times before fainting it.

Now enter the forest, you'll be presented with a rather strange query by an unknown entity...

Apparently said entity was an impossible challenger.

This Pokemon should be level 1, so if you caught a weak Pokemon earlier, it's time to use it. Weaken and catch it.

Move it to the front of your party and battle something.

If you win this battle and get experience...

You grow to level 100...

And voila. Brock, meet your maker.

Moveset/color swapping (Pikablu)

This is a very good tutorial. Really looks like you have put a lot of thought into it.

I'll be waiting for the other ones! (Though I probably won't do any of them, because I'm too scared that it might screw up my game D: )

I'm really interested in how does this one with getting every starter work.

Weird, the 3 starters one didn't work for me. Maybe my timing's off but I did it about 5 times before giving up.
I personally want to see how to get Missingo on Yellow without GameShark if that's possible.

I don't think you need gameshark for Missingno on Yellow, anyway...

The ones for Crystal work for Gold/Silver too I'm assuming, and the one for the starters definitely does, since I'd worked it out myself XD I've been trying the one for any shiny but so far no luck, going to keep trying~

Definitely interested to hear about the Moveset/Colour Swapping most.

It was originally a Pikachu.

EDIT:
Okay, so my New Years party is over, and I'm back to work. I have all the pictures taken for the 'Level 100 in the beginning of the game' tutorial. Getting it written up.

I have an annoying glitch Poke that is starting to anger me. Here's his story.

So on my Blue version, I like to do a bunch of glitch experiments. At some point, while my friend was over, I decided to glitch up either my Blue version or my Gold version. So I put my Blue into my GB and my Gold into the GBA SP. I went into the time capsule and traded (I can't remember what). Then I turned off the SP in the middle of the trade. This broke my SP (it's still being repaired ) and put an annoying glitch Poke in my Blue. On the Pokemon menu, the arrow points to a blank space (which currently is at the back of my party. When I check the stats, everything is that of Charizard except his name is Gastly. He is level 22 and when I navigate to the second page of stats, he renames to 'M (who never looked like Charizard before). He knows (unnamed move) with 10/50 PP, TM12 with 5/50 PP, [glitch]9999 with 10/8 PP (???) and Night Shade with 15/15 PP. I can't deposit him in my PC which is my biggest problem. How do I get rid of him?

Please PM me.
