I agree with Hacki, especially since we are using the pokemon that we haven't used before- a fair portion of them is because they are just to weak stat-wise/are outclassed. Grinding all the way to Red (i think for some weaker pokemon, they need to be even above Red's levels to fair well) can be a hassle.

Great, more problems,
I could have swore that I traded my donphan over from HeartGold but it appears that I didn't. Sorry to be a pain but I will again need another pokemon.
SORRY

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll change the rules so that Johto Challengers only need to beat the E4 a second time. I'm not sure about the Lance/Clair rematch, because it's actually a lot easier than the E4 rematches, level-wise. I think it's simplest just to make the requirement for completion to beat the E4 twice, and leave everything else as an optional extra.

Zeffy, I've moved you to the RSE part of the Challengers list (you were on HG/SS before). Hacki101, of course it's fine for you to give brodioh his last Pokemon, makes my life much easier if people help with assigning people teams

Cheers all. Last update coming soon (I've already beaten the E4 twice - three times actually - it was in my last update, but I'll post my full impressions and team member reviews in their own update).

Quite a long update (well it was play time)
- Defeated the Sage at the top of Bellsprout Tower easily
- Battled my way through the Violet Gym Trainers
- After many attempts and much grinding, defeated Falkner: Teddiursa soloing the Pidgey, Numel finishing off Pidgeotto with Rock Slide(s) after weakening from Teddiursa and Cubone's Defense dropping and Hoothoot eventually dying from Roost stalling
- Route 32 and Union Cave pass like a breeze, easily defeating the hard trainer on the route.
- Lost to Hiker Anthony's team of 6 Pokemon all levelled higher than me.
- Beat Anthony and beat Slowpoke Well
- Lost to Bugsy and Rival before grinding
- Beat Rival on second attempt after Croconaw spammed Dragon Dance for too long :D
- Defeated Bugsy with the help of a X Defend on Numel, taking out Scyther and then PInsir before running out of Super Potions and fainting to Beedrill. Drifloon took over and took out a weakened Butterfree (they all know U-Turn) on the switch then outsped with 2 Gusts. After a few turns of Gust vs. U Turn and Roost I switch in Teddiursa for the fake tears to no avail as U Turn takes him out in 2. Remoird comes in for an Aurora Beam (I thought it was super effective) and also dies to 2 hits. I switch Drifloon back in and out stall Beedrill for a hard fought victory.
- Saved in the Pokecenter.

Current Team and Impressions:
Spoiler:

Teddiursa Lv. 15
Rock Tomb
Faint Attack
Fury Swipes
Fake Tears

Fake Tears comes in useful sometimes and Teddiursa can out power some strong opponents like Falkner's Pidgey, which makes him a handy team member. His strong attack stat is bound to come in useful later. 7/10

Cubone Lv. 15

Headbutt
False Swipe
Tail Whip
Bone Club

A very high Defense stat (highest stat of all my Pokemon) can be useful to get off a Tail Whip or two for my stronger attackers to defeat. Bone Club is OK, as is Cubone himself, best used as a support Pokemon. 4/10

Drifloon Lv.18

Payback
Minimize
Astonish
Gust

I love Aftermath :D, unexpected kills are awesome. Immune to a lot of attacks at the moment and has much more HP than anyone else, so is able to take many hits and excelled in the battle against Bugsy. Probably my favourite as he levels up quickly and his typing is something I have never used before. Expecting him to be the ace in my pack one day. 8/10

Spoink Lv.17

Psybeam
Psywave
Psych Up
Flash

Suddenly became a hard hitter with Psybeam although it wasnt useful against Bugsy. Spoink can be quite frail physically and his nature has boosted his defense as well. I would hate to see how frail he would be with a neutral nature. His nature hinders what I thought he would orginally used for (-Sp.Att) but yeah another OK Pokemon. 5/10

Remoraid Lv.16

Water Gun
Aurora Beam
Psybeam
Bullet Seed

High attack, sp.att and speed= my best sweeper, constantly being overleveled before grinding. Extremely frail so pretty much useless in harder battles, although type coverage is very good at this stage in the game. 7/10

Numel Lv.17

Ember
Magnitude
Rock Slide
Earthquake

Still the MVP, best performer, star of the team whatever you want to call him. Used the most in both gym battles, he is my dependable Pokemon to pull out the win. Average stats mean others will catch up as they learn better moves and his speed is the only thing that annoys me, even if the nature is Timid (+Speed -Att) 9/10

This challenge on this game is time consuming but very rewarding, hence the long update, although this may require a lot of patience to complete.

PS. any thoughts on the update style, I am open to constructive criticism.

Blissy's The Ones Who Got Away Challenge! - Silver Version!
Chapter 2: The problems will never end, right?
Alright...on to Mr. Pokemon's House. Did some training to get Petal more powerful so he could learn Razor Leaf. I got Petal up to Level 6 by fighting a lot of Pidgey. I encountered no Sentret, and...I had no Poke Balls yet. Catching Sentret will have to wait...for now.

Ok...Cherrygrove City. I go and heal up Petal from all his training, and I set out again for Mr. Pokemon's house. I'll go back for the Town Map later, but...I might forget. I grab the Berry off the tree near a house, and I talk to the guy in the house to get another Berry. After getting into even more battles, I made it to Mr. Pokemon's house, and Professer Oak was there. He gave me the Pokedex, and I set out again to head back to New Bark Town after getting the mystery egg.

After I left Mr. Pokemon's house, I got a call from Professer Elm. Apparently, something bad has happened back at his lab. I had to go back to go see.

On my way back to New Bark Town, I encountered a strange red haired kid. His name at that time was a mystery, so it was time to own him. For some reason, he had a Cyyndaquil, the arch enemy of Petal. Petal was almost owned, but he came out victorius.

He said his name was ???, but I had no time to make fun of his name like hell, I had to get back to New Bark Town. I healed up Petal, and headed out again. When I got to the lab, Elm was talking to a cop about the stolen pokemon. I told him that the red haired kid was the thief, and his name was Deyrell. I gave Elm the mystery egg, and told him about the Pokedex. He was amazed, and I went to go tell my mom I was leaving.

After getting my 5 Poke Balls, I headed out to catch a Sentret. After about 10 minutes, I caught one and named him Furry. After training Furry up so he could do more, I went to get Phanpy, but I couldn't find one after searching for a half hour. I gave up on Phanpy, and headed back to the area that Mr. Pokemon's house was. I battled some trainers and went over to Violet City, where I'd fight the 1st Gym Leader...after Sprout Tower.

This concludes this chapter of my The Ones Who Got Away Challenge.
Blissy's Squad:

Petal (Chikorita) Lv. 9
Moves: Tackle, Growl, Razor Leaf

Furry (Sentret) Lv. 7
Moves: Tackle, Defense Curl

Badges Obtained:
So far....none.

I won't be able to get Slugma until Kanto, and Phanpy is not easy to find. I'll need two different pokemon.

Blissy's The Ones Who Got Away Challenge! - Silver Version!
Chapter 3: The Dreaded Sprout Tower!
Ok...Sprout Tower time. My party of two is healed up, and ready to go. I went over to the tower, and entered. Not much to do on Floor 1, so I went on to the next floor. The trainers...as the tower's name suggests, they all have Bellsprout. Furry kept reaching death in the battles he was in, so I wasted all of my Potions on him. At the end, I encountered Deyrell again. He had beated the head sage, and escaped with an escape rope. It was my turn to battle. The sage had two Bellsprouts, and a Hoothoot. Furry was owned by his Hoothoot after Petal owned the two Bellsprouts. Petal finished up the battle with 7 HP. Lucky he survived.

This concludes this chapter of my The Ones Who Got Away Challenge. Sorry it was so short, but I'm a little busy.
Blissy's Squad:

Petal (Chikorita) Lv. 13
Moves: Tackle, Growl, Razor Leaf, Reflect

Furry (Sentret) Lv. 9
Moves: Tackle, Defense Curl

Badges Obtained:
None. I'm battling Falkner later.

@Hacki101 That'll really work. I can get a Gastly in Sprout Tower, and get Shuckle from Cianwood City.

Sorry for the lack of update Sammu! I'm still doing the challenge, but a little more focused on the St. Patty's one atm. I am currently in the desert, and about to face Norman. I guess you can have an update after that

Blissy's The Ones Who Got Away Challenge! - Silver Version!
Chapter 4: Ownage, meet Blissy.
It's time to own Falkner...but first, I headed back to Sprout Tower to catch a Gastly. It didn't take long, so I caught a level 4 Gastly. After catching Gastly, I went to go train him by using a simple tactic I learned from chuggaaconroy's Fire Red LP. After training up Spooky, I headed over to Violet City's gym.

Ok.....it's gym time! I took down the two trainers before Falkner, and headed over to own the Gym Leader himself. Falkner, like every 1st Gym Leader, has two pokemon. He started off with Pidgey while i used Furry. After a little damage, Furry took down Pidgey. Next...Pidgeotto. I had Petal take over, and start up with a Reflect so Gust wouldn't do much damage. After a while, Petal took out Pidgeotto. After winning, I got the Zephyr Badge, and the Mud-Slap TM.

Now...onward to the next town! Ok...I start off encountering a Mareep. I had Spooky out in front to start things off. With one Lick, Mareep got paralysed. After that, I chipped away at Mareep until I caught it. After that...I got a ton of training done.

This concludes this chapter of my The Ones Who Got Away Challenge.

Moves: Lick, Hypnosis, Spite

I have a question now.
Is it against the rules to trade all of my pokemon in at level 1?

EDIT: No brodioh, that's absolutely fine. That's what I do.

No worries -Cygnus-. You can take as much time as you like, updates are just to keep this thread alive and nice and high up the first page of Challenges.

...speaking of which...

Update 12: Challenge complete

I completed the Challenge by beating the E4 rematches in update 11, so this final update is for the purposes of rating my final team members.

The Team - Final Impressions:
Spoiler:

Toxicroak, Male, Relaxed, Lv.65
Poison Jab, Brick Break, Sludge Bomb, Nasty Plot
Mr. Reliable
Impressions: I've always loved the way Toxicroak looks, and now I love the way he plays too. After a solid start despite some nightmarish starting stats (being immune to Poison Hax certainly helped), Toxicroak (then Croagunk) just kept getting better and better, quickly establishing himself as my staple lead attacker due to his mixed offences and his excellent typing allowing him some unusual resistance combinations. He evolved pretty late and his usefulness had petered out slightly just before he did, but after that he never struggled. Of course I never sent him in against any Psychic Pokemon if I could help it. All in all, a truly reliable Pokemon, and even if he wasn't my absolute best, he was certainly my absolute favourite.
Rating: 9/10

Omastar, Male, Mild, Lv.65
AncientPower, Mud Shot, Ice Beam, Surf
The Wrecking Ball
Impressions: Got off to a slightly annoying start when, at Lv.1, his only attack was Constrict, which did 1 damage. On the flipside though, he only took 1HP in return, due to his awesome typing and his awesome Defence. When Omanyte finally evolved, he was unstoppable. His Sp.Atk reached untold levels of awesomeness, and nothing could stand in his way. I even had to stop using him periodically to let the other Pokemon catch up. All in all, Omastar has become my favourite fossil to date, and I recommend him highly. His lack of Speed is more than mitigated by how easily he dispatches Dragon-types with his monstrous Ice Beam, and even AncientPower is a murderous tool of death in his tentacles.
Rating: 10/10

Mismagius, Female, Docile, Lv.65
Confuse Ray, Charge Beam, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse
The Glass Cannon
Impressions: I tend to find Ghost-types difficult to use. Not so Mismagius. She was a pickle at first, as Psywave, her only attacking move, was unreliable at best, which seemed a waste of her awesome Sp.Atk stat. Luckily she leveled up quicker than any other teammates, and before long she was tearing holes in anything that moved (and some things that didn't) with Psybeam and, later, Shadow Ball. Comfortably my quickest Pokemon, that Speed stat would come in handy later on when her Sp.Atk started to decline in comparison to my other team members', particularly Omastar's. Speed allowed Mismagius to set up Charge Beam, after which Shadow Ball laid Bruno's entire team (twice) and countless other tough trainers to rest. She's not the force she was between levels 40 and 55, but my god were those levels fun, and were it not for this little lady, I'd have really struggled against the game's numerous Gyarados. The archetypal Glass Cannon, and I love her.
Rating: 9/10

Girafarig, Female, Sassy, Lv. 65
Zen Headbutt, Psychic, Crunch, Strength
The Unsung Heroine
Impressions: A real trooper. Girafarig was my first Pokemon to faint, against a Sentret of all things. She seemed to see that as an incentive to improve, and my oh my did she improve. Suddenly Facade, Headbutt and Confusion made her an unstoppable force, which lasted pretty much all the way until the other Pokemon on my team caught up with her BST by evolving. Even then, despite the BST deficit, she still kicked far more ass than I ever expected her to, and I'm incredibly glad for her assistance during the Challenge. A real unsung heroine.
Rating: 8/10

Dragonite, Male, Adamant, Lv.65
Dragon Dance, Dragon Rush, Waterfall, Fly
The late bloomer
Impressions: No Pokemon had as erratic a journey as my Dragonite did. I had massively high hopes for him as a Dratini, but his stats sucked horribly despite the perfect Nature. He couldn't take advantage of great starter moves like Extremespeed because his Atk was lame and it only had 5PP, and he levelled up at snail's pace. His disappointing journey took a massive upward swing when he learned Dragon Rage, which suddenly propelled him to the forefront of my team's attack. Then he evolved, and things went downhill again. Dragonair wasn't strong enough for the stage of the game when he evolved; opponents were starting to get tough when he was in the mid-30s and early 40s, and poor Dragonair couldn't keep up, especially when he levelled up so slowly. Dragon Rush helped a bit, but a terrible Elite Four performance left Dragonair reeling at the bottom of my team in terms of usefulness. And then, everything suddenly got better at Lv.50. Suddenly he was a monster, a beast of terrifying power and ruthlessness. Dragon Dance appeared, and he could not be stopped. He swept mercilessly through Kanto, and even Lance couldn't stand in his way second time round. A fitting end to his underdog story.
Rating: 8/10

Pinsir, Male, Quiet, Lv.65
X-Scissor, Swords Dance, Rock Slide, Brick Break
The Demolition Specialist
Impressions: Probably the Pokemon I liked the least out of this team before I started the Challenge, and consequently probably the Pokemon that has won me over the most. Despite his awful nature (it literally could barely be any worse for a Pinsir) he immediately propelled himself to the top of my roster before the 1st Gym, with ViceGrip destroying... anything, really, and his high Defence stopping any opponents from leaving a mark. Until Lv.10ish, at least. He wasn't any use for the first two Gyms due to his type, although he was the only Pokemon who could learn Cut. At that point in the game that was all he was used for; he consistently fell behind in levels because he was underused and took ages to level, and eventually even ViceGrip stopped hitting so hard. Over time, though, I really learned to appreciate this Bug's talents. He's not a complex Pokemon, he's never going to uproot any trees with radical movesets. But what he does, he does very well. He hits hard, he hits fast, and he takes down some really awkward threats, not least the first two Kimono Girls in some style. He's rough and ready, a bit erratic - sometime's he's absolutely perfect for the job, but if not, he tends to be utterly useless - there's rarely a middle ground. Overall though, he averaged out to be a good, handy Pokemon who filled a useful niche on the team, especially in Kanto.
Rating: 8/10

The Too Long, Didn't Read version:

Johto MVP: Mismagius
Johto LVP: Dragonite
E4 (1st run) MVP: Omastar
E4 (1st run) LVP: Dragonite
Kanto MVP: Dragonite
Kanto LVP: Girafarig
E4 (2nd run) MVP: Omastar
E4 (2nd run) LVP: Pinsir

Overall MVP: Omastar
Overall LVP: Pinsir/Girafarig (although both were still awesome)
Overall Best Moveset: Omastar
Overall Worst Moveset: Dragonite (just because of the first 30-40 levels)

Thanks for reading, anyone who did. I really enjoyed my own Challenge, and I'll be posting a new sign-up form very soon indeed. I've added myself to the Champions list (ha!).

Zeffy's Update #1

I decided to take it slow and organized. I'll be updating for every GYM leader I defeat. And with this update, I have defeated a GYM leader. :D

I'm going to list my adventure, because its easier for me to do and easier for you to read.

~ Started the game, named myself "Zeffy".
~ Went on with the normal story stuff.
~ Saved Prof. Birch using Mudkip.
~ More story stuff that is very boring that you would fall asleep.
~ Got to May and defeated her very easily.
~ Got the Pokedex, and a few Pokeballs.
~ Started to catch the first 2 Pokemon on my list: Wurmple and Poochyena.
~ Captured a male Wurmple at Lv. 2, and a female Poochyena at Lv. 2.
~ Leveled them both up to Lv. 7, hoping that Wurmple would evolve into a Silcoon....and it did! :D
~ Went to Petalburg and more boring story stuff.
~ Went through Petalburg Woods and Silcoon evolved to Beautifly on the way.
~ Got through Rustboro City and leveled up both my Pokemon to Lv. 15.
~ Faced Roxanne. Poochyena as the head and Beatifly as the backup. Fortunately, all of Roxanne's Pokemon were knocked out by Poochyena's Bite attack. Although, at the end of the battle, all that's left of her was a bar of red health.
~ Healed, saved, and quit.

And now, the team and thoughts.

Poochyena
Stats:
Spoiler:

Poochyena's hard to level up, but she managed to get through Roxanne alive. That's a pretty good achievement if you ask me. I think she will be leading the team for quite a while.

Beautifly
Stats:
Spoiler:

As a Wurmple, Beautifly was quite a battler. I think his motto is "Fight and fight until you faint". xD
Anyways, I felt good when Wurmple evolved into Silcoon. Pretty sure, if I were to put it in competitive battling terms, Beatifly will be a sweeper. ;)

Fin.

Sammu, take:

Zangoose, Vaporeon, Kangaskhan, Aerodactyl, Ambipom, and Mamoswine.

I am assuming you can hack/trade in Zangoose and Aerodactyl, since Zangoose isn't obtainable in-game until post E4, and Aerodactyl can't be revived until Pewter City. The rest can be obtained normally (Kangaskhan is in the Safari Zone). Lemme know if that works.

Yeah that's fine, I've got all those Pokemon already on my main HG game, I'll just breed them and trade them across at Lv.1.

Could I be a pain though and ask that you change two of the Normal-types? I don't mind which two, but I actually meant to specify I'd like a variety of types in my sign-up form...

Small update:

Welp, Poochyena evolved whilst in Dewford. I beat Brawly using Beautifly. I used Stun Spore on his Makuhita...he used Reversal but I survived. xD
Anyways, I reached Slateport and renamed my Pokemon. Mightyena is now Beasthound and Beautifly is now named Florence. Such nice names. xD
Currently in Mauville right now, readying for Wattson. This GYM is going to be hard especially having only 2 Pokemon. Bets for how many restarts I'm going to do is now open. ;)

Blissy's The Ones Who Got Away Challenge! - Silver Version!
Chapter 5: Buggin' Out.

Slowpoketail?!?! It's edible?!? Okay.....a guy is eating a Slowpoketail, and he's selling me one for OVER 9000!!!!! dollers. Screw that! I heal up, then it's time for Union Cave.

Ok.......Union Cave. Luckily, Flash isn't required to get through Union Cave. Now...I still have Spooky up front since it'll take a while for him to evolve. Now...not much to say. Two floor cave...really short. A few trainers...really.....not much. Well...a few items, but still, not much.

Finally free! Now...what's going on in Azalea Town? Gasp! Team Rocket!? But...why? How? Didn't Red own them all back in Kanto three years ago? Something isn't right...so I'm going to the gym. Wait one second...THEY blocked off the gym!?!?!? That's it! They're dead meat! Well, might as well enter an anonymous house where a guy named Kurt lived. Apparently, Team Rocket is back in buisiness. Only one place to go.....to the Slowpoke Well!

Kurt...all I can say is...YOU FAIL! He fell down the well, and hurt his back. Looks like I'm on my own. But...Team Rocket has their own awesome battle music!

This concludes this chapter of my The Ones Who Got Away Challenge.
Blissy's Squad:

Petal (Chikorita) Lv. 14

Furry (Sentret) Lv. 11

Spooky (Gastly) Lv. 9
Moves: Lick, Hypnosis, Spite

Shiek (Mareep) Lv. 10
Moves: Tackle, Growl, Thundershock
Badges Obtained:

Zeffy's Update #2
Technically its #3 but idc that much. xD

I'm too lazy to say what I have done recently, so I'm just going to show you my team. Oh and yeah, I've defeated Wattson and captured a Slugma. Currently in front of Flannery's GYM, worrying. ;)

And now...THE TEAM!

Ignore the egg and the slave. xD

Anyways, now to team thoughts.

Siegfried...well, he's not that great but he's coming to it. I can't wait for him to evolve already.

Florence is, by far, the MVP of the team. Once he learns Silver Wind, I wonder if anyone can stop him. xD

Beasthound is great. Not as great as Florence but you get the point. If only I had other options other than Bite. Maybe I should teach it Secret Power.
