I fixed your quote for you.

I'm doing a Catch 'em All challenge on Blue atm. I've done it once on cartridge, but didn't get Mew. After this, I'm going to do it on Silver, Sapphire, and maybe Platinum.

This summer is devoted to Pokemon really. Other than the above challenges, I'm also going to finish all the monotypes, work on the Pokemon map that a friend and I are making on Minecraft (we've done Cinnabar, Route 21, Pallet, Route 1, and we're working on Viridian). We're doing a 2 blocks to 1 tile scale, making everything accurate (unlike the video i've seen on youtube with the same idea). I'm also planning on making a video walkthrough for all the Pokemon games, and doing Alpha Fan work.

Well I can start my save the Pokemon challenge now that I have traded out all the Pokemon, which took a good 3 hours to do.

I don't know why you didn't start your Save the Pokemon! challenge earlier. Isn't it easier to start at te beginning, so then you have more time to take it slowly?

Colosseum and XD are the hardest ones to do that on imo. Deep Colosseum is going to be an ass hat, and I can't stress that enough.

It must've just gotten moved here randomly, or not. ;D I tried to get into Game Development once, but I couldn't figure it out. I had a great idea, but people thought it was too hard to implement. I couldn't even figure out how to install new maps on RMXP. :P

I used to be sort of into making games although really it didn't go any further than AdvanceMap for Pokémon Emerald, lol. Then I realised that I didn't have the time or the patience.

There are probably a lot more resources available now if you still want to give it a try, and there are plenty of threads around. Out of curiosity, what was your wacky idea? xD

That's hacking, not game development.

Well with hacks you edit the original games rom (I think), and with game dev you create it all from scratch.

My "wacky" idea was something like a race, or time trial type game. Pretty much, you'd have all these things to do, and you'd have to be fast. The faster you are, the easier the game would be for you, as there would be more trainers to fight and stuff. If you were slow at playing the game, all the trainers would be worn out from your rivals, and you wouldn't be able to battle them for the extra experience.

GameDev is far more customisible. The advantage of hacking was that everything was redymade, the battlesystem, the pokemon etc. But with the starter kits out there, that advantage is gone.

long live gamedev!

(Now, if only more games got completed...)

I think the problem with a lot of fan-made hacks/games is that they never get completed. I've seen some of these games, and the most developed ones only go up to 5-6 badges usually.

Is it cheating to subscribe this thread? :D

I have a very ambitious project in mind which, if completed, would revolutionize fangames, but I have a way of never finishing things...

What ambition would this be? It seems interesting to have a new fangame which is different from the standard Pokemon style gameplay. :)

We need this thread to be active or a bomb will blow up.
What fangame would be best to just play for fun, and get into the whole fangame business? I haven't played one before, and I'm considering getting into it. D:

Yeah man, fangames are pretty epic. I've played quite a few.

Then when you play incomplete ones it's like "Noooo!" when they end.

I've played quite a few fangames here. Some of my favorite ones are Pokemon Raptor, Uranium, Pyrite, Mystery Universe, Adventure, and Super Pokemon Eevee Edition (even though I haven't played past v. 0.25 XD ) Though, if I had to select my favorite fan game, it'd be Pokemon Twilight. It's not on this site though, and you'll have to use Google to find the website

How is everyone feeling about today's games? What ones do you think are not cutting the mustard and why? Which games do you think have the most going for them an why?

Hmm, well Obsidian really brought back everything I love about fangames, Helio and Uranium were also some pretty fun demos to play, although I still enjoyed Obsidian the most out of the 3. I'm really anticipating Garnet and Tyrian's demos, and I hope Azurite will please the development community, as well. I still have yet to play Rossay's Adventure and Darkdoom's SPEE, the former due to my antivirus spazzing out and the latter due to, not lack of interest, but I haven't had the motivation to sit down and play it.
