Yuri is the same world for the flower (and is written the same way). The association with lesbianism is an additional meaning. It's somewhat analogous to the word "gay" in that it was already a word (meaning "happy") and just took off in another direction of meaning.

Yaoi, supposedly, comes from the phrase "yama ga nashi, ochi ga nashi, imi ga nashi" - "no climax, no outcome, no meaning".

@TwiDragon - Of course! Anything involving Russia is automatically epic. I went as him for Halloween last year. :3
THOUGH, I dunno about Russia x Belarus. 1) Of course I prefer the yaoi (YES, I'ma keep using it like that :P) couples, and 2) Belarus scares the crap out of me. If it can make even Russia cower and cry in a corner, you know there's something wrong there.

/just turned this into a Hetalia fanclub. You can all either join or get out~ xD

^Outside of Sweden, Belarus has a really nice outfit. It reminds me of a lot of the outfits in Touhou.

I'm not surprised that this thread went in this direction. The masscots for my school's GSA is one of the Hetalia characters, and there is constant role play amongst all my friends. I took the role of Sweden

I didn't know Hetalia was like that, lol. Or is it just all fan stuff, like Sailor Moon and all the lesbian fanfiction? xD

Also, kind of relevant.

Time to convert to buddhism~ :D
Wait a second, I just realized that I don't give a crap about the pope. NEVERMIND THEN.

Well hey, once the thread starts heading in the direction of yaoi/yuri, Hetalia is going to find a way to worm itself in. ;3
@Toujours - No, I believe it's officially like that, it's just a very "light" yaoi. :P
And that is an epic picture. I'MA EAT THOSE PEEP BUNNEH FIG HATERS >:U

Hetallia has a lot of openly straight and yaoi pairings in there. Its probley why it is a popular thing for Openly Gay Anime Fans.

It has cute, PG Yaoi in it, and people eat that up.

Other meaning of climax. >_> As in dramatic point in a story, and so on. Like most gay publications it started out underground and had to be considerate about how/when/where it advertised. Hence the code name.

the weirdest thing about the term Yuri is that it's also a name. in Tales of Vesperia for example, Yuri is a swordsman who is also good with his fists. I've seen so many dirty puns on that subject.
ToV is one of my favoritest games. :D <3 Rita especially. lol

I believe his name is German in origin, and means wolf. (Thus why a lot of his moves have the word wolf in them.)

I'd like to join, this group seems like a lively bunch of people! :D

As for my sexuality, I'm kinda wavering right now.. although, I can honestly say that I'm probably not straight, as much as I hate to admit it, hahaaa.

Oh well, I'll figure myself out eventually >_>

Yeah, I felt the same. I was actually kind of trying to deny it. I wasn't anti-gay or anything of that nature. I just had to be positive I was bi, and not just straight.

I'm sure its pretty common to see?

Yeah, just look to the beginning-ish(I think it's single digits anyway) of this thread, and you'll see that I spent like 2 pages arguing with people in this thread, because I felt like I couldn't accept not being straight. I'm really glad I had this place to talk to people about it though. It was really overdramatic, but it still helped a lot... so, stick around, and I'm sure everything will be fine for you.

Well, I confirmed it in Mid-Summer, and I was starting to think about it ever sense a fun game of truth of dare I got dragged into at a party on February.

It kind of took me a lot of time in between as I never really went out looking for any kind of things on the gay spectrum until the end of July. Which is where I started looking into the gay side of me a lot more!

I only accepted it after I realized how much Yaoi I have in my collection , and how I started to see certain kind of men really attractive. I guess in a way it was forced upon me, but I don't care. I'm happy with what I like :3

Mid July was when I first realized it, and I actually came to terms with it toward the end of July. It felt pretty sudden to me at the time, even though now I can see that it was a fairly slow transition.

I'd like to look into it more myself, because I'm pretty sure there's more too it than just porn and this thread... but I definitely do not live in the right place for it. I'm pretty sure there are no (living) openly gay people here. At all.

Well, I've talked sexually with gay guys before, but what I need is a gay relationship. I would love to have one as much as I would love to have a straight one.

All I know about being bi is the fact that I think I'm willing to "go for it", the fact I can easily get "entertained" as much with yuri as yaoi.

I don't know, there really isn't a test I can take. I'll just have to wait for a gay relationship to come over to me and see how that goes

I'm still saying I'm bi though, as I do have certain fantasy's, emotions towards a certain person, and I'm actually into some fan-yaoi pairings.

Its really weird I guess.

I don't actually like yaoi personally, just because the art/animation/plot, and pretty much everything else for that matter, isn't nearly as high quality as normal or even yuri anime. The only one that I've seen that's good is Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi... and that eventually just ended up being one guy kisses the other, and he freaks out and runs away... and it happens over and over. I'd honestly have liked it better without the yaoi part, because the rest of the show was pretty funny.

There's nothing weird about it. In my case, there are just certain traits of both sexes that I find appealing. For example, I don't actually like the male body on average. The shape of it too... rough, and not really cute at all. But the equipment itself is more appealing than a girl's... I feel like we're getting way too personal for a public conversation, lol. >.>

I had this same problem. Any Yaoi I began to watch had good stories and everything, but the romance was either always forced/awkward/annoying. But if any of you know anything of that genre that isn't any of the above please recommend it to me in a VM!

For myself, its more with girly men, feminine men, crossdressers, and anyone who looks like they came from an anime. I don't like a few masculine things such as facial hair (as well as chest, arm, and leg), muscular body built, and very short hair. Don't get me wrong though, I'm probably as pick when it comes to girls, as I don't fine a lot of girls to be super attractive. I find a lot of them cute, but not sexy :x

^Don't generalize genders like that. Its like if I said that all Females should automatically know how to cook and clean. You don't know how romantic I am! I only really show it with the ones who I'm in love with/ not the whole world.

Hey there, welcome! Come on in, but remove your shoes if you want to go upstairs. The carpet is new

Also, as a follow-up to Scarf's article earlier, Cynthia Nixon has clarified her comments about being gay by choice.

Oh so she's bisexual! I did not know that. xD And in that case, yes, she technically chose to be in a gay relationship, she just didn't choose to be attracted to her partner, or choose to be bisexual. She just chose to follow through on her feelings towards her partner. That does make a bit more sense. -nods-

I think Cynthia Nixon caved to the pressure. :( We'll never win against the bigots if we let them define the nature of sexuality. Quoting her from before she caved:

Quote originally posted by Ms. Nixon:
Why can't it be a choice? Why is that any less legitimate? It seems we're just ceding this point to bigots who are demanding it, and I don't think that they should define the terms of the debate. I also feel like people think I was walking around in a cloud and didn't realize I was gay, which I find really offensive. I find it offensive to me, but I also find it offensive to all the men I've been out with.

So I read that in Canada there were air travel rules put in place months ago that prohibits anyone from flying if they don't appear to be the gender listed on their ID. It doesn't appear that anyone has actually been stopped (mostly because no one knew this rule was there), but the fact that it got made into a rule bothers me to no end, not the least because Canada is supposed to be, like, America but better about these kinds of things.

I'm getting a little misty-eyed at the thought that our group has made a difference. I don't mean that sarcastically. I really mean it. Well, maybe not the misty-eyes part, but the sentiment is real.

I come presenting a horrific story.

An 11 year old girl is being put in a mental institute. Why? She's trans.
Read that for details, this honestly brought a tear to my eye, it's horrific, especially in a progressive country like Germany.

This is a petition to stop it

Also I heard about the Canadian thing, I'm disgusted that it's there. It's probably more for security than actual transphobia but I'm hoping it's like got rid of or something.

That makes me so angry I can't even post what I want to say.

This is why some things should not be up to parental discretion. A girl's health is at stake and now her father who left his family after being unable to accept his daughter wants to impose not only his views, which no absent parent has a right to do to any child, on the family, but ones that are dangerous and harmful, too!
