Chapter 1

Kunk! Valentine became a little shaken from the sound of his white backpack hitting the ground so loudly after being in near silence the past couple of days traveling.
He began to think about his trip here. First, he took the seemingly endless plane ride where he was able to take two full-length naps and it still took another hour or so to reach the airport. That was alright, he supposed, but the sound-canceling headphones he wore made everything too mute. It was like the plane was going to crash down and kill everyone and he would be reading a magazine, completely unaware of the earth-shaking screams of one melodramatic teenage girl on the plane. However, being a bit paranoid about being oblivious in you’re hour of death was a lot better to him than hearing the hyped-up, shrill vocals of that same melodramatic teenage girl talking about the new designer dark-type-themed shoes she got in Johto he heard every time he had to turn the headphones off and go to the bathroom.

“And you can’t tell her to shut up either,” he thought, “those shoes are Karen of The Elite Four’s designer brand. Very big deal, as we all must know by now. She’s just doing us the service of extolling their overpriced virtues from experience. We should praise her for her vast knowledge of six-inch heels and- Wow I’m a smart ass,

He paused to look at around at his new surroundings. The field was moist, as it was soaking his roughed-up sneakers. He started to wonder where this "Dennis or Derek guy" who ran the camp was supposed to be. There was no sign of anything happening soon, so he went back to his thoughts.

After the plane ride ended, he had to take a boat to this large city. It was filled with more people than the plane, but notheless boring. Nobody wanted to talk, for some reason; especially the people from Richmount who were going to the same place he was. He started wondering what things they did to get here. “Maybe murder,” he contemplated. “Or perhaps burning down a teacher’s office?” Although he knew these were farfetched, he liked thinking about it. It made things more interesting that way. But then he started to remember some of the things that happened at Richmount, such as the fights and the rumors about whoever flunked, and felt a bit discouraged towards his fantasies.

“Hey there,” he said to one of the people standing next to him. “What’re you in for?” Although he was joking, the person didn’t respond. He left them alone after that. A bit unfriendly of them, he thought, but he understood- he didn’t really feel all that friendly either after being sent to the ranch, then enduring the plane, the boat, and then most of all the car-

Oh, the car. That was particularly enthralling. Valentine has sat up next the driver, and since he was tired of the lack of noise during the last couple of days, he tried to strike up a conversation with him. Talk about crashing into an opposite-going train and falling off the bridge. Valentine recalled the entire scene in his head:

“So, where are you fro-“ Valentine started.

“Waterway.” The driver spat out like the words were creating a bad taste in his mouth.

“Y- you got any Pokémon?” Valentine hesitatively asked.

“I got one Zubat and two Graveler, what of it?” The driver asked angrily with the slightest hint of defensiveness.

“Well I like Pokémon, and I was wondering if you had any favorites….” Valentine didn’t feel like continuing with this man, and now was starting to miss that designer-shoe wearing girl on the plane. At least she wasn’t freaking miserable about everything.

“Favorites?! You trying to stalk me, boy?” the man interrogated.

“No!” Valentine said. “I was just-“

“Look, boy, mind your own damn business. I ain’t here for your entertainment, sicko.”

Valentine really started to get baffled at this man’s logic about how asking him what his preferred Pokémon were made Valentine a sick-minded stalker, so he dropped the conversation here. And for the next hour or so, he and the man sat in the most awkward silence you could imagine. He couldn’t get out of the car faster when they stopped.

So after a bit of a walk then, him and fifteen or so people were standing in the middle of a field, surrounded by two buildings and facing a third one; Just waiting for this leader guy to show up. He finally does and apologizes about his lateness, and also introduces himself as “Ranch Leader Derek” and that’s “Sir” to the group.

Oh yeah, like that not egotistical or anything. Nice establishing your authority.” Valentine says to himself, already not liking how the guy asserts himself.

Derek points out the boys’ and girls’ cabins, and tells about the middle one, with a library and sitting room, among other things; and also something about the second floor, which Valentine thought Derek explained like he was foreshadowing something for later, like they were all in a novel. Valentine wasn’t particularly paying attention or interested to listening to this guy. Derek then brought them into the third building, which was huge and a bit cozy. Valentine liked it. There were a large number of eggs in the room, of almost every color it seemed.

Derek asked the group to pick which egg they would like as their first Pokémon and assignment. Valentine decided to snatch up the indigo one, since it’s his favorite color. He places the egg in his backpack which he had been carrying in his hand since the field, zips it up, and then picks up and wears it.

Valentine walked to the boys’ cabin afterward. He looked at all the other members of the ranch, each one glazed with their own unique mixtures of emotion.
Once in the cabin, he held the door for the rest of the guys to enter, as he does all the time. He got a couple thank you’s, so he started to feel a little confident in the other people who were here. After the last guy passed through, he lobbed his backpack next to the bed he liked the most for… just being the first he saw that was open, really. He sat down and took out the egg from his backpack that he received. He stared and examined at it for a bit, and he couldn’t help but feel just the slightest bit of excitement as he thought he felt the a tiny shake from it, which he was sure he just imagined, but wanted to believe was real anyway.

Valentine blinked and realized how fast it felt from when Derek appeared to now. Everything was going quick now that traveling was over. He decided to go for a bit to clear his head and take more note of the scenery that surrounded him. He walked out of the cabin with his shimmering indigo egg still in hand.

----

I hope this is how this is supposed to go and that the conversation between Valentine and the Driver was an okay since he's technically an NPC.

But anywhos, I might type up the walking portion after this for the first mission later.

I also felt like I was lacking with the Derek part- but then again, it reflects how Valentine wasn't really paying attention and how fast it was paced.

@Kiyoshi - Great first post. :) I like the humor in your writing, and the length was perfect. There were a couple sentences when you swicthed from past to present tense, I think. Just keep it the same all the way through, and you're fine.

@ghasteon - Pending. Please add to your History what he did at Richmount to get him into the ranch. Also, there are quite a few grammar errors, so watch our for that when doing your posts. Just fix the history and let me know, and you're in.

@Everyone - Now that I know who is in and out and all of those things, I can get to work on the NPC's and OOC thread. I'm looking forward to your posts!

We're here! Xoxaa wasn't really excited about it at all though. Actually, she was quite nervous, almost to the point where she would start to sweat. As they left their vehicle upon arriving on the ranch, they soon met the ranch leader who pointed out the basics of their stay here. Xoxaa was frozen in place, trying desperately not to draw attention to herself. She felt nervous enough, being around other failures who might've had a more violent reason to be here. She didn't feel safe at all, but hopefully that would change.

They were then lead into the central building where they would receive Pokemon eggs. Fortunately Xoxaa was towards the front so she would have first pick. However her luck wouldn't pan out as well as she had expected. As she looked over the eggs on the table, she spotted the one she wanted.

"There, the indigo one! I'll take that one," she thought to herself, only for it to be snatched by some strange boy a second later.

"Dammit! Just my luck!"

Disheartened that he took her first choice, she spotted another, a blue egg.

"This one looks pretty close to that other one. I'll take it before someone else does," she decides, picking up the egg and holding it up to the light.

She smiled slightly, examining the egg's bright shine to it, her first positive expression since she arrived at the ranch. Xoxaa lowered the egg and folded her arms around it, keeping it close to her chest. However that proved to be a challenge, considering that her bust size made it hard to keep the egg extra close.

The convicts, or so she liked to call herself and the other students staying here, left the central building after retreiving their eggs. With time now to settle in, Xoxaa went straight for where the girls would be staying. She went straight for her area and dropped her bag at the foot of her bed. She leaped onto her bed, the egg still clenched tightly in her arms and she stared at the ceiling. This new future was an uncertain one and she's in the company of strangers, some of who could be very dangerous. But hopefully this egg could hatch into one of the Pokemon that she loves so that at least she'll have one friend on the ranch that she's certain will become a nightmare.

Chapter 1 (continued)

Valentine started to head towards where Derek said the gardens were located. Valentine was having quite a tough time holding onto the indigo marvel of an egg in his arms. The thing sure was awkwardly round- and a bit hefty, too.

“Could be a Munchlax,” Valentine thought, “Definitely has the weight to support the claim. Nah, that’s not fair. Maybe an Oddish. Although, those things aren’t particularly heavy, are they?” Valentine paused. “Maybe the egg shell is heavy or something. Or, I could just be a weakling. It could be as light as a Hoppip for all I know right now. Oo! Hoppip! That’d be neat.”

Valentine couldn’t help himself in just trying to guess just what this mysterious oval-shaped two-ton developing embryo cover contained. But a thing Valentine really liked was that what the egg contained absolutely complete potential to be anything. Maybe even a Lugia, who’s to say until it hatches?

Reaching the gardens, Valentine started to wonder where Derek exactly got these wonderfully colored eggs. “Is he stealing them? Or, perhaps, does he have an underground breeding center? What?! Do the other ranchers know about this?! Are they all in on it? Is my amazing Technicolor dreamegg really just the product of illegal Pokémon distribution? I-"

Suddenly, Valentine tripped on a rock and fell face first into the beautiful flower bush below him. Valentine scurried to re-find his egg, which landed in a bit off mud on the ground near the bush. He picked it up, and looked it over. A bit messy, but otherwise fine and landed softly.

Valentine decided to head back now to the cabins, the fresh air wasn't helping empty his head. But, it did give him a brand new way to look at Derek. Who knows if that very same illegal Pokémon breeding is up that forbidden set of stairs in the main building?

“Hm. This calls for discovery for a later date,” he said to himself; not really taking it seriously, but having fun notheless.

@Xlugon Pyro - xD, Xoxaa has the right idea when she was thinking about the indigo egg. Blue will have to do! Nice opening.

@Kiyoshi - 'amazing technicolor dreamegg' ftw. I'm enjoying Valentine's predictions!

@Everyone - I'VE SUBMITTED THE OOC THREAD, and now we just have to wait. I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but DarkAngle91 is Accepted.

Jewel set her things down on the dusty ground. She surveyed her new surroundings. *Ugh. Wayyyy too much dirt for my taste*, she thought to herself. She walked to the middle building, and saw a table with Pokemon eggs. She walked over to the table, looking at the eggs that remained. She saw an egg with an icy-blue shell. She looked at each egg, but every time her eyes wandered back to the icy-blue egg. She picked up the egg gingerly, holding it close to her chest. The egg seemed to shine a bit before returning to it's icy-blue color. Jewel went to the cabins and found herself an empty bunk on bottom. She put her things down, but kept the egg with her.

*It feels really cold. Maybe it's a Glaceon. That'd be cool.*, she thought to herself. She saw some other kids with eggs, but didn't feel like trying to say hello. She found an empty space on the floor in a corner and sat down. She stroked the egg gently, wondering when it would hatch and what it would hatch into. She began humming a soft tune, singing to the egg. She was hoping to coax the egg to hatch faster, even though she knew it probably wouldn't work. She began thinking about names. *If it's a girl, I'll name her Shirona. If it's a boy, I'll name it Raja*, she decided after 15 minutes.

@Arcaray - A spot has been reserved for you.

@Everyone - It's a bit unfortunate that we don't have an OOC thread yet :\ But I need to know who is here and who isn't so that the ones who are can continue. So if you're still interested, please let me know! And for those who have posted - I'll have the next mission up soon, after everything is sorted out. Dx Sorry about this delay, guys!

Chapter 1:

After hours of flight, the airplane had finally landed at their destination. Alice was half asleep, and let out a yawn of relief to know they had finally landed. Worn down from the ride, she had trouble standing up at first, but rose to her feet eventually. The bag she carried was heavy with clothing and other small valuables she had brought. The girl picked it up with ease, walking out of the plane and looking around at her temporary home. In front of her was about 3 cabins; apparently, the woman's cabin was the one at the right.

She walked up to it. It looked old, but as she peered inside the cabin looked relatively new. Or at last clean. Alice walked inside, her feet creaking under the floorboards. The thought of living here for the summer made her groan, and she was positive there would be lots of work to do once was finished getting comfortable. If only she had tried somewhat harder to do her homework in school. Reviewing over her memories, she had been a lazy ass when it came to working. This work was going to make her suffer.

Exploring the cabin, she realized it was actually quite huge, despite its appearance on the outside. It was bigger than the room she use to live in, at least. Finding a bed, she threw her backpack on the bed and took off her leather coat. She stretched out her arms. though the good times wouldn't last long here, she'd have to enjoy her first day somehow or another. In fact, she was even going to get her first pokemon today. As she was told earlier,"recieve a pokemon egg from the middle building".

She approached the cabin door, opening it and slamming it behind her as she walked outside into the fresh air. Alice didn't know too much about pokemon, but had learned several things from school that may have assisted her once she received her own pokemon egg. The girl had no idea what kind off a species she would get once the egg hatched. Alice assumed that the appearance of the egg would resemble the actual pokemon inside, but looks weren't always what they seemed.

Heading for the cabin right next to her own, she passed by several other kids from school. She had never socialized with anyone, except for a selected few who had, sadly, already graduated. Alice made a mental note to learn the names of each of them by the time summer was over. Opening the middle cabin door, she peered inside with great interest of what was inside. It was much larger than her original cabin, and had a more comfortable atmosphere. In the middle of the building she saw a table, fortunately lined with several pokemon eggs that hadn't yet been snatched by the other students. Alice looked for something to resemble herself, and found nothing.

The only thing that managed to stick out to her was a black egg clearly noticeable between all of the other colored eggs. It stood out, though it seemed separate from the group. Alice was certain it hid a very unique pokemon inside.

"That's the one," she mumbled to herself, picking it up and holding it in her arms as if it was a newborn baby.

Name: Jaclyn Witton. (Unofficially changed to Jae upon arrival at Richmount, feeling its 'fiery' meaning was quite apt.)

Gender: Female.

Age: 16. (Slightly younger due to an unfortunate combination of high intelligence and a hobby of abusing the chemistry labs.)

Appearance: Jae was never one to bow down and accept "ordinary" fashion statements, and from a young age she felt there were much more important things in the world than fitting in. Her appearance prior to her arrival at the school was significantly different from her current attire, as she grew up and away from her previous innocent lifestyle. Jae has round, reddish-brown eyes which feature a constant malicious sparkle, often accompanied by a mischievous smile on her thin-lipped mouth. She refuses point-blank to wear make-up, but if her skin wasn't so clear some may assume that this would be different. Her once long, golden hair is now cut into a short, angular hairstyle, and is dyed a deep copper. Her frame is small and wiry, her features as sharp as her wit. Her skin is almost translucent, as she is very much a lover of the lab and library; outdoor research has never appealed to her.

Jae's 'style' is a combination of her career aspirations, mischievous nature and keenness to stand out in a crowd. Jae wears a pair of black shorts much too short for a school like Richmount, over a pair of burgundy tights. These end inside a pair of white Doc Martens, which are scorched slightly. She dons a baggy men's t-shirt bearing a faded image of the legendary Ho-Oh Pokemon, which she longs to capture. Over this she wears a customised lab coat, jaggedly cut short and singed multiple times. In the pocket is a pair of thick-rimmed, square glasses which she doesn't need to wear, but feels it 'completes the look.' The sleeves are often rolled up, and the left one bears an emblem of the Volcano Badge. Around her neck she wears a pendant of a Red Shard.

Personality: Jae is as fiery as her name. She is very much a leader, and has a knack for influencing even the most dutiful of her peers. Her ability to disrupt a class is as much as a reason as any other for her induction into Summer School, and her quick temper a close second. Said temper is known to erupt unexpectedly, as Jae's patience is very short-lived. She cannot tolerate what she sees as incompetence, and as a result she will retaliate with offensive, sarcastic remarks which are known to turn even her teachers into states of blubbering Magikarp. This however, aggravates her even more, as she cannot stand weak, childish behaviour.

Jae is incredibly intelligent, but is very aware of it. This makes her condescending, boastful and very difficult to get along with in the eyes of her superiors. Her brainpower allows her to argue like a politician, and is often able to wiggle her way out of a sticky situation as a result. She is difficult to discipline and has virtually no respect for positions of power, regardless of the consequences. She will not hold her tongue for anyone, and will argue shamelessly with even the highest authority.

History: Jae was born and bred in Ecruteak City under the name of Jaclyn, to two patient and supportive working class people. Jaclyn's parents had struggled to conceive for many years before the birth of their daughter, and so they doted after their 'miracle child'. Jaclyn grew accustomed to having undivided attention from her parents, but as a young child this had very little effect on her. Jaclyn was raised to be polite and truly was nothing short of a delight to anyone who met her. She was greatly loved in Ecruteak, being one of the very few children that lived in the aged city. Her parents realised her potential and so she lived on a dream of becoming one of the world's greatest scientist, discovering the truth behind the legends of the magnificent Burned Tower.

After being spoilt and attended to for so many years, it was a great shock to Jaclyn when her parents decided to adopt a child. She was barely eight years old when her parents unexpectedly brought home a young boy, and introduced him as Jaclyn's new brother. Jealousy ignited within Jaclyn as both her parents and the people of Ecruteak began to shift their attention from her and onto the newcomer, leaving the adorable little girl with what she saw as second place. Jaclyn had to learn to share, and she was not prepared to do so. What was worse, was that the boy wasn't even that special. He wasn't as smart as Jaclyn, so why should he get the attention? It didn't seem fair, and no matter how hard she tried, Jaclyn couldn't get her parents to focus on her and her alone. It was such efforts which eventually led to her family's untimely demise, to which their darling daughter was solely responsible.
In a desperate attempt to regain her parents' affection, Jaclyn began to try more daring experiments. She would lock herself in her room for days at a time, only appearing to see if her parents were intrigued with her projects. It was when she was trying to create an item which re-enacted the effect of fire pokemon when she accidentally set her curtains on fire. She considered going for help, but instead she merely walked out of her house and watched it burn. If her brother was so great, he'd save her parents, she'd reasoned, and it was only when the house was entirely up in flames did she realise the damage of what she had done.
Of course, being only nine years old at the time, she was never suspected of arson. She grieved the death of her parents in her new school, where all the special people went, as she was told.

Upon arriving at the school, Jaclyn told the staff her name was Jae, and so she cut the ties she had with the parents she so dearly missed. After only one term, Jae was promoted to the grade above, where she learned that the only way to get attention was to fight for it. Jae had learnt the hard way that being brilliant was not enough to be treated brilliantly, and so she sought better ways of getting the attention she so rightly deserved. Jae attracted the 'sheep' of the class, those too weak to lead, and made them follow her into endless weeks of detention and punishment. Jae was seen as 'the one who got away' to the staff at first, as they tutted at the potential Jae threw away. Her blatant disregard for the rules and her uncanny ability to turn a teacher into a laughing stock meant that she spent more time in solitary confinement than she did in the classroom, but as she grew with age she grew with confidence, and ability to talk her way out of anything. Her mixture of science with misbehaviour led to the constant vandalism of school property, from the development of small booby traps to dangerous petrol bombs. It was on the third time that she had managed to set fire to the laboratory that the final straw had been placed: There was no room for Jae at Richmount Academy.

Main Goal/Interest: Scientist

Egg Number: 2!

Other: Jae's disregard for rules and authority figures is subject to change when she experiences the strict ruling at the Ranch.

RP Sample: Taken from The Flock (A Maximum Ride RP)
Spoiler:
Apolla was standing on the roof of the house, her wings stretched, tingling slightly where the morning sun touched them. She smiled, content knowing that her family was safe, that they'd been free for so long without interruption.
She bent her knees with the incentive to take off, but something below her caught her eye: A flash of white, stumbling through the trees. A White-coat? Apolla panicked, her heart in her throat. She nimbly jumped off the building, landing silently in the clearing below. As she turned to enter the house, a cold hand touched her shoulder. She span on her heel, and came nose to nose with a young man, his black hair brushing past his startling familiar green eyes.
It was him - Daedalus, she was almost certain of it. Almost without conscious thought, Apolla withdrew her fist, propelling it forward so it would collide with his face. Before she could even see how much blood he spilt, she sprinted into the house, to find nothing but empty rooms. Her heart having spasms inside her, she jumped through a window, and took to the air, her large wings jerking her upward painfully. She scanned the area for her family, and something rose out of the trees. Something big, awkward looking; something a lot larger and scarier than her Flock...

"Brother!!"
Apolla started, awakening in a bath of sweat, pretty sure her heart was bruising the inside of her ribcage. Her bed was smothered in blue feathers, and there were two figures standing at its foot.
Apolla sat bolt upright, poised to fight, only to see two very familiar faces.
"My boys!" Apolla exclaimed, forcing her look of panic into a warming smile. she picked up a feather. "Silver, how many times? You'll go bald if you carry on!"
She laughed, ruffling his white hair, turning to give Lysander a hug.

"Right, c'mon!" She clapped her hands together, rearing to go. "I'll go make breakfast!"
At that, their faces fell, and they looked as scared as she'd felt before she awoke.

@Sweet Dreams - Nice start. I'm looking forward to the rest!

@Arcaray - Oooh a scientist! This character is kind of like one of the NPC's I came up with, and since we've replaced a boy with a girl, I'll need to change some characters around. :) But excellent work, you're accepted.

@Everyone - Still no OOC thread, and I stupidly didn't copy the info from there to word, so until it's posted or someone can give it back to me, we don't have any NPC's. Also, the second mission should be up very soon. :)

Chapter One

Jae rolled her eyes impatiently. Well, this is a serious let-down. She had travelled for days, no entertainment, no proper hygiene and no decent company, and for what? To stand in a bloody field. And as if being forced to stay here all summer wasn't bad enough, the Ranch leader wasn't even here yet! Urgh. At least have the decency to turn up on time.

Jae looked around at her new peers. She had been hoping that some of them would be a little bad-ass, but they all looked like flunkies to her. Not an ounce of worth between them, as far as she was concerned. She had heard that one guy had tried to poison the entire student body, but that intellect seemed way out of reach of these idiots.

She'd spent the journey over here sitting alone, thinking of some sort of benefit that could possibly come out of this complete waste of time. There was one hiccough which had derailed her train of thought, when some complete bozo had attempted to make conversation. She'd simply smirked at his pitiful attempt to befriend her, and returned to her thoughts. Her mind had more substance than all of these put together. She had no time for these lot, and the sooner she got off this island the better. She might just go crazy if she had to spend the entire summer with such brain-dead morons.

After what felt like an age of waiting, the awkward silence that hung above the field was shattered by a booming voice, directly behind Jae. She refused to turn around, as the man seemed much too arrogant for her liking.
"But you should address me as sir..." Pfft. Yeah, right. He obviously didn't know Jae as well as he liked to think. She rolled her eyes at the seemingly endless list of restrictions in this place, and spent the rest of the talk wondering how many times she'd have to break them before she was sent on a boat back to Johto.

Eventually the teens walked away, and Jae assumed the lecture was over. She followed them into the middle building, in which there was a large number of brightly coloured eggs. Jae spotted an orange one instantly, and greedily scooped it into her arms.
"Oh, please be a fire type," She muttered maliciously, as the egg shook a little. Even the pokemon seemed excited at the concept of winding up Sir Derek until he cracked. She really couldn't wait to find Derek's limits. Nor could she wait to find the breaking points of her fellow detainees, when it came to that.

Jae chuckled darkly as she made her way to her dorm, where she dumped her belongings unceremoniously on the bed. Then, with egg in hand, she strode out of the room to find something worth doing.

@Arcaray - Nice first post. I can't wait to see what happens to Derek when she's done with him xD

@Everyone - Here is Mission 2. If you haven't finished the first yet, please do so quickly!

Mission Two: A Tiny Taste
(1-2 Posts)
Okay, students. Looks like you've had plenty of time to get to know the ranch. Unfortunately, your work isn't done for the day. Once your eggs hatch we'll be able to do some more serious things - but until then, you're on farming duty. Yes, I know. Not very exciting work, right? Well, get over it. Half of you (Arcaray, Fearless Love, miley810, and Kiyoshi) will head out to the gardens, and collect some of the vegetables that look ready. When you're done, you can carry them by hand to our kitchen here. Your eggs will hatch quicker if you bring them with you, but that might be a bit of a challenge for...some of you. The other half (Xlugon Pyro, Sweet Dreams, DarkAngel91, and Iwasapony) will be on kitchen duty. Head up to the kitchen and start cooking! You'll need someone to cut up the vegetables, somebody to start them cooking, and all that good stuff. Be creative with the food....it's all we have for now. After you've finished and eaten, you are to report back to your cabins for some quiet time before bed. Everybody understand?

Mission objective: Another slow post, I know. But don't worry - after this, things will get exciting. Basically, you're either collecting food, or fixing it. It shouldn't take more than one post, but feel free to be creative. Sorry things are so slow in the beginning, but until I get that OOC stuff back from whoever has it, it will be hard to continue. :(

Additional Mission!
If you choose, you can add one of these things to your post:

For the gardeners: A swarm of bugs has taken over the crops! You don't have a Pokemon yet...but maybe you can finish them off? Battle either:

Caterpie x 2
~Tackle
~String Shot

or

Wurmple x 1
~Tackle
~String Shot
~Poison Sting

For the cooks: Something got into the kitchen! Maybe you could ward it off? Unfortunately, you don't have any Pokemon yet... But could you find a way? Battle either:

Rattata x 1
~Tackle
~Tail Whip
~Quick Attack

or

Patrat x 1
~Tackle
~Leer
~Bite

(Completion of the additional mission in a creative way could result in an egg move for your hatched Pokemon.)

If anyone has any questions, please leave a VM!

Chapter 1

Cheyenne tapped her foot on the ground impatiently, listening to the so called 'Ranch Leader' explaining the rules of the ranch. She rolled her eyes as he droned on, his words not even making it into her head. Her eyes examined the rest of the kids around, but she knew better than to judge by her first instinct. She needed to know exactly who she was dealing with, and to correctly know that, she would need to interact with them. Exactly how, she wasn't necessarily sure.

She crossed her arms, tapping her finger on her arm, matching the tapping of her foot. She closed her eyes for a minute, completely droning out any sounds the 'Ranch Leader' may have been making. She was aware of the fact that it may be in her best interest to at least hear out the rules, but she couldn't force herself to focus. Her mind just canceled the thought. Most likely, she would be able to reassemble whatever was being said in her mind later, and if not, she could always ask one of the others.

"-A very own Pokemon egg of your own!" she opened her eyes, snapping back to the scene in front of her. Whatever the beginning of that sentence had been, she didn't know it. She looked around, and upon seeing the others heading for a building, in between two others, she decided to follow. What harm could come from that? If she got in trouble, so would these others.

Once she was inside the building, she noticed a table that held Pokemon eggs on it. She observed as others picked theirs up, but she herself just stood there for a moment, looking at the table curiously. It would seem that they were suppose to take one of the eggs from the table, but her question was, which one? Had he told them each which one to take ahead of time? Were there certain ones they weren't allowed to touch?

She stood in front of the table, still unmoving for a moment or so, until one of the eggs caught her eye. It was a shiny red color, and it just seemed to stand out amongst the others. Maybe it was just her, and her love for the color red, but she knew this egg was the one she wanted. She reached a hand out, but then pulled it back, still running thoughts over in her head as to whether she was doing something particularly wrong or not. Though, once the majority of the others had already left, she just sighed, and reached for the egg again.

She held it in her arms, looking at it curiously. The color may or may not reflect the being that was inside of it. It the color did, then it could possibly be a fire type. Or a ground type. As red could easily represent either of them. Then again, perhaps the color had no relation to the type at all. Perhaps it reflected the attitude, personality, or nature of the Pokemon inside. In that case, she assumed that this Pokemon could possibly be aggressive, as that is her first thought when the color red enters her mind.

Once leaving the middle building, she glanced around, holding the egg tightly. There were two other buildings, she wasn't exactly sure which building was made for what. She caught one of two of the girls heading towards the one to her left, which would have been her right had she been facing the direction she'd arrived in. She quickly made her way to the building she had seen the girls head towards, hoping it may be the sleeping quarters.

Once inside, she quickly found a bed, a sat the egg down carefully on a pillow. She herself kept to her feet, her arms crossed over her chest, eying the egg. She glanced down at the camera around her neck, and fiddled it between her hands. She bit down on her lip, contemplating on whether now was a good time to use some of the pictures. She had never photographed an egg before. Not like she ever really got to see one back home.

She clenched the camera in her hands, then, tilting her head slightly, she came to a decision. She pulled the camera up, focusing her lens on the red egg that lay resting on her pillow. She focused her sight on it for a few minutes, angling herself differently, until she found a position she was comfortable from. She put her finger on the button, prepared to take her first official picture of ranch life. Of her new life. Taking in a deep breath, she pushed her finger down, then she saw the flash. And it was done.

She now had officially begun her new adventure. A new place to be explored. A new world to be observed. And it was just the beginning.

Chapter 2

Jae stood in the empty field on which they had waited earlier, looking around restlessly. The grass rippled in the wind, which picked up her lab coat and sent a chill down her spine. Jae cursed under her breath as she wrapped the coat tighter, hating this place more by the second.
In her large pockets, the bulge which was her Pokemon egg could clearly be seen, the orange top glinting slightly in the sun. She placed her hand in the pocket and felt the egg's shell. Just hatch already, will you? Her impatience was unrivalled, and waiting for something that could take so long was how she defined torture.

---------

Okay, I stand corrected. This is torture. Jae looked up at Sir Derek with complete disgust when he announced the jobs they'd have to do.
"Harvesting? No way! I'm not playing servant for the likes of some stuck-up farmers!" Jae spat, her eyes glaring furiously.
"And then you want the others to cook the food? You actually think they're capable of that?" Jae's mind was set back to the rumours she'd heard about her fellow 'criminals'.
"You better not be thinking of putting the culinary crackpot in the kitchen! He tried it once, who's to say he won't poison us lot as well?"

As it turned out, the poison-pinhead was the only guy with them, and he was on gardening duty with Jae. Maybe Sir Derek deserved a little credit for that. The company Jae was reduced to included the bearded dunce who'd tried talking to her on their way here, a ginger girl with a camera slung around her neck and a girl with black hair and red eyes. God, this was gonna be a fun summer. Jae rolled her eyes, flouncing on the ground amongst the cabbages as soon as Derek had left the site. She looked up to see the three others staring at her.
"What?" She snapped, pulling out a lighter from her chest pocket. She set the nearest leaves alight, grinning slightly at the flames.

"Well, go on then! Get harvesting." Jae looked up expectantly at the other three before exhaling loudly and pulling out the nearest, unburned cabbage. She slung it into her sack, and gestured at the other three as if to tell them to get a move on.

Jae trundled through the plants, only picking up vegetation whenever one of the witless wonders looked over to her. She didn't want to please them or Sir Derek, but she knew that there was an increasing risk of her egg being taken away if she doesn't appear to do some work. Whenever their backs were turned, Jae would bring out her lighter and set fire to any plant in her way, just because she could.

Jae soon had wandered from the pack, and had resorted to exploring the cabbage patches. She'd left her sack of poorly ripped food a few feet away before wandering through the cucumber plants. After boredom had led Jae to burn holes through her labcoat, she impatiently began plucking crops from any plants within her reach. She returned to her sack with arms filled with puny vegetables, hoping to be excused from harvesting any further.

Jae allowed the veg to tumble out of her arms and into the sack, but as she did she noticed movement from within the bag. She grinned at the thought of any sort of distraction from work as she rummaged through the sack, looking for the source of movement.

"Gargh! Get out of my crops!" Jae yelled, as she found what she'd been looking for. Under the cucumbers wriggled a fair few Caterpie, who had chosen Jae's bag for food.
"There's veg everywhere! Why are you eating my work?!" She shouted, tipping the sack upside down. The Caterpie swarmed around the food, and Jae stood there, anger rising. She raised her lighter menacingly, and got ready to embrace the bugs.

Chapter 2

Sir Derek announced the job to all of the students, and Alice groaned as she was assigned as a 'cook'. Cooking wasn't her specialty, and if she dared mess up, everyone would be eligible to blame her for doing a lousy job. The girl was frustrated, facing Sir Derek and then the egg snuggled in her arms. Complaining was useless as she realized, some of the other students complaining about their own assignments. The man refused to change his mind, nor consider their petty complaints to be something of value.

Alice was finished eaves-dropping. Heading towards the kitchen, she looked behind her, hoping someone would follow her. It appeared they were all too busy complaining. She let out a sigh as she cradled her shiny black egg. For a moment, she wondered if putting the egg back in the cabin would prevent any casualties in the kitchen, but decided against it. As long as she was careful, her pokemon egg wouldn't be damaged, and it would hatch sooner as she believed.

Walking into the kitchen, she scanned the room with her multi-colored eyes. It was small and somewhat dirty. Its appearance disgusted the girl, and she frowned in disapproval. Whoever was working in here previously was a complete slob, as it showed with non-sanitary dishes and pieces of food that had been left out. She set down her egg on one of the more clean, small tables. Alice mumbled to herself under her breathe as she switched on the water from the sink, grabbing whatever dishes she could find and scrubbing them with a soapy wash cloth. She was never a fan of dish washing.

As she scrambled through her thoughts, Alice began to wonder what they were even suppose to be cooking. Sir Derek hadn't bothered to mention what they were assigned to prepare, unless she had missed it in his oh-so-important speech. The girl didn't bother to actually listen to half of it, except for the main part where he announced what jobs each person was given. Stopping the water, she dried what dishes she had scrubbed clean and searched through the kitchen, analyzing where the dishes and silverware were kept.

Alice put away whatever she could, stuffing whatever else she couldn't find the location to in a random area with the other dishes. By now, the girl was getting impatient and upset. She hoped the other trainers would hurry inside, and as if it was magic, she saw other people coming in to a more clear kitchen. The girl would have smiled, but she was getting tired, and the food wouldn't cook itself. Then again- where was the food?

Ignoring the newcomers, she headed to the refrigerator. Inside revealed mostly vegetables. Though Alice wasn't a fan of them she figured that fruits or vegetables were the only source of food available on the bloody farm. Grabbing some carrots, she grabbed a cutting board along with them and set everything down on the table behind her. She had memorized where the knives were and got one as if she had cooked in this same kitchen several times before. Checking her egg, she looked back down and began cutting the orange vegetables. One of the students also seemed surprised at the food.

"Oh, you have GOT to be kidding me! Only fruit and veggie's?! What the heck are we supposed to make with these?!" The girl said aloud. She looked at Alice who was also glancing at her, "Hey. How does vegetable soup sound?"

With a chuckle, Alice nodded, "Sure. Not as if I'll be able to cook anything else."

Talking while cutting, pain shot through the girl's hand as she jerked away her hand from the cutting board. The knife had sliced her finger, though not much, it still hurt. Alice hissed in pain under her breathe. "What a stupid knife. Curse it for being so sharp." The girl hoped none of the other students had seen the event, and quickly she grabbed a napkin near her, cleaning up the blood that was coming out. Obviously it wasn't helping, as the knife also had a smudge of blood on it now. Alice grabbed the cutting instrument and headed for the sink, washing it with caution as well as her finger. Suddenly, another student walked in through the kitchen. She looked displeased at the food being prepared.

"You better do something good with these," she sneered at the cooks, "I'm not living off veggie soup all summer."

"We're not forcing you to eat our food you know," Alice shot back, "You can eat the vegetables out of the ground if those taste better."

By the time she had finished her sentence, the girl was already rolling her eyes and leaving the kitchen. Alice didn't know how to prepare food; not as if anyone had taught her how in the first place. If the others didn't like what she made, not as if she should care. Finished washing, Alice headed to the sack the girl left for them. Carrots themselves couldn't make a great soup. She searched around inside, grabbing some onions, cabbage, and cauliflower. Cutting them up one by one, she gathered her ingredients, and set out a large pot. Tossing the vegetables in, Alice began measuring the water, adding in about 6 cups of the liquid. Figuring it would need to heat up fast, she set the heat to 'high', throwing in some rice she found to mix with the food.

"This is going to take forever..." she grumbled.

Suddenly, picking up movement from the corner of her eyes, she spied a purple creature near her egg. Alice's eyes widened, soon narrowing in anger. Dropping whatever food she was holding in her hands, she yelled at the pokemon, which immediately scrambled down from the table in a rush to get away from the approaching human figure.

"Who the hell let the rat thing in the kitchen?" she growled out at the other cooks, getting a broom from the corner. Alice swore she'd smack it before it touched any of the food, or her egg again. Examining the room, she found a hole in which the purple creature had crept inside the kitchen from. With an evil smile, she looked around the room, finding a heavy pot and placing it over the hole. The pokemon wouldn't be able to move it, and therefore couldn't get its dirty paws into the kitchen again. Satisfied, Alice turned around, only to find the rat munching on a piece of food she had dropped.

"SON OF A-"

Lifting the humongous pot from the hole entrance, she set it behind her as she gripped the broom in her right hand. With a shriek, the pest ran under whatever it could find, angering Alice even more as she failed to get a good hit on the rat. As it ran behind the refrigerator, the girl smacked it from behind with a good 'thwack' of her weapon. Maybe she was being cruel, maybe she wasn't; but in her mind it didn't matter, Alice just wanted the thing to go back into its hole.

-Not finished yet, just saving this until I get the chance to write again.-

Also, I made sprites of Alice...thanks Kiyoshi for inspiring me. lol.

Chapter 2

Valenine was exiting the gardens when he heard Derek call back to the ranchers for their “first assignment.” Interesting enough, he thought, and at least this would distract him for further dropping of his surreal egg of wonder, which he flattered more often then a- then, um…. actually, no one really complements something this much without being an obsessive lunatic.

Upon being finally able to shake the odd narrating thoughts he was having about himself, he approached a small, dark cabin-like building right in front of where he was supposed to meet Derek and the others. Following his explorative heart, he took a peak inside.

The interior was screaming silence. In addition, the cabin felt like it had its own specialized ecosystem: the temperature was stark cold; the moisture the air contained was almost ice itself, and the room was almost frighteningly dark, as there were no windows. Having no flashlight, Valentine debated whether or not to follow through on this excursion. The light pushing through the same crack Valentine was looking through faintly revealed a desk with a lamp on top of it. Feeling safer somewhat, Valentine quickly rushed in, pushing the door open with full force and egg still in hand, and turned the switch on the lamp. Unfortunately, it contained a dead bulb. The door that Valentine left behind exerted the rest of the force it was pushed with and shut loudly, filling the room with dreadful black again.

Valentine stood without moving a single muscle for a few moments. He set his egg on the desk he ran next to and tried walking to find anything to make light, or just get out of there. He tried talking to himself and describing what he was doing to concentrate.

“Alright, so, arms in front of me. Okay. Air. More air. Still air.”

Bump.

“Okay, wall. Filthy wall. Oh geez, disgusting wall. What is this place, anyway?”

His hand smacked a sharp corner of something tall and with a square top. He felt on the top of to search for anything.

“Dust. Dust. Why am I doing this, dust. Dust. Paper? Dust. Wha- lamp!”

At last, Valentine found a desk lamp, pulled its switch, and it came on. It barely lit the room, but it was enough to reveal he was searching on top of a filing cabinet.

“Well, I’m already here,” he figured, and tried pulling on the handles. The top two didn’t budge, but the third nearly threw itself open. It was littered with surprisingly clean files. Valentine searched through all of them, finding names like “Sharp, Cheyenne,” “Starr, Jewel,” and “Lizarkia, Xoxaa.” All names he subconsciously recognized and concluded that these were the other ranchers. He finally saw a file with his own name on it all the way in the back, in front of a certain “Witton, Jaclyn,” who secured the title of being the very last file in the cabinet.

Suddenly, Valentine heard a noise- he didn’t realize what it was yet, but it was a noise during the worst silence he’s ever heard. In panic, he grabbed his file and this “Witton, Jaclyn” file with him, and scurried under the desk. Taking a moment to asses the situation, he realized it was Derek’s voice again, calling for the ranchers. He got up and saw his indigo egg still in front of him on the desk, next to a capped switchblade of sorts.

Derek’s voice ringed again. Valentine, under high suspicions of Derek upon finding these files in this ancient room, grabbed and hid the switchblade in his pocket, tucked and secured the files under his shirt, and snatched his indigo prodigy. Running towards the door, he forgot about the lamp light. He ran back and ripped the lamp out of its plug, leaving it on the floor. He found the door again, and rushed out to the cabin.

Valentine put on the calmest face he could and walked into the building where everyone was to be gathered. Derek, happy upon seeing his arrival, explained in his usual, subtly condescending tone that the ranchers would be gathering vegetables or cooking those very same crops as their first mission.

Suddenly this one girl exploded with fiery rage at Derek hearing this. Valentine had been so tense and guilty because of what happened just minutes earlier that he had to stop himself from yelping at the top of his lungs when this girl decided to lose all her marbles. He clenched his indigo egg harder as she went on.

And then you want the others to cook the food? You actually think they're capable of that?” the she-beast hissed. Derek lowered his eyes with impatience.

“You better not be thinking of putting the culinary crackpot in the kitchen! He tried it once, who's to say he won't poison us lot as well?" she said, as she pointed at Valentine.

Valentine, nearly having a heart attack being put on the spot said nothing and nearly lost his cool. Derek rolled his eyes at this girl and asked Valentine if he’d be okay just taking up the harvesting duty. Valentine said that it’d be alright. Derek noted that he would be in the gardens to meet the harvesters to get them started, and the group broke apart to their designated jobs.

Valentine slipped away to the boys’ cabin and grabbed his silver backpack; shoving the files and his Indigo Pokémon-to-be in it and leaving it open as he pulled it on. He ran towards the gardens, catching up with his group of fellow harvesters. He saw them all before, but was clueless to their names. There was the one girl with a camera, who was as skinny as a rail, the black-and-slightly-purple haired, jean-everything wearer girl, and-

“Oh please have mercy.” Valentine thought as he saw the bi- ahem, witch from before was with them. He gripped his backpack straps and said hello to his group members. He didn’t pay attention to any reply, as he was too focused on his mixture of fear of what Derek might be hiding, guilt from basically stealing things from the dark cabin, and dread of having to work with whoever this one girl is- and if she’d snap his neck if he so much as said more then “hello” to her.

They reached the gardens and Derek gave some instruction about how to harvest, giving each member of Valentine’s group a bag. After that, Derek left, and the fiery girl huffed and puffed as she crouched down into the cabbages.

“Boy, is she crazy.” Valentine thought as he stared at her. Apparently the other two were thinking the same thing as they were looking at her, too.

“What?” the girl said, pulling out a lighter and setting a cabbage on fire.

“Whoa- whoa- whoa- whoa- what?!” Valentine freaked as he saw the green leaves go ablaze.

“Well, go on then! Get harvesting.” She spouted from her trap.

Valentine and the others kneeled down into various vegetables. He found himself in a bunch of beet-like plants, which he pulled out from the ground. They were quite huge, and a tad bit heavy. Valentine constantly kept looking back at the pyromaniac as she burned and burned more of the vegetables she was supposed to be picking. How Valentine missed seeing her in Richmount, he will never know. She eventually disappeared, and Valentine took that time to relax and regain his bearings. Until the last few hours, he has never felt that emotional or distressed in his life.

His bag eventually was filled with those huge beet-things. He plucked another one and pulled out his new switchblade, uncapping it. It was ridiculously clean and it looked like it was just polished and sharpened recently.

“Well if Derek was planning to murder us all, at least I’ve impeded his progress.” Valentine said to himself. He started carving the beet-whatever into a pokéball. It was a rough sculpture, but Valentine held it up to his face in delight.

“Wurm?” a voice right in front of him said with a light, curious tone. Valentine put down his fake pokéball and found himself staring into the beady eyes of a wurmple that had left a trail of eaten vegetables behind in its path. Its skin was amazingly crimson and snow white- Valentine couldn’t help but admire the contrast as it tried to gnaw through his pants.

Wait a minute.

“Gah!” Valentine yelped as he jumped up. The wurmple peered back at him with hungry eyes. It liked the taste of his olive cargo pants, weirdly enough. It went in for another bite, causing Valentine to jump back further.

“What do you think you’re doing?!” he interrogated. Him and the wurmple played the game of bite-and-hop-backwards for a few moments before Valentine finally got fed up and threw his beet-oh-whatever-it-is pokéball sculpture at it. It smacked the wurmple right on the nose, which only made it angry and scurry towards him faster. Valentine saw that he would need to have something bigger to take out this wurmple and began thinking of options as he paced backwards.

Mid-thought, however, the wurmple used string shot and tied up his legs, sending Valentine on his back and the indigo egg flying out and landing beside him. The wurmple walked backwards and charged a tackle attack. It smacked him right on his shins, giving Valentine copious amounts of pain. Valentine needed to get this thing to stop or it just might end up ki-

“Ow! Dude!” Valentine exclaimed as the wurmple tackled him again. Valentine, flipping to his side in agony, saw his egg next to him. He took up his indigo wonder and waited for wurmple to charge again. The second it started running, Valentine threw his egg at the pocket monster and it hit it square in the eye with all its might (and weight), giving the wurmple a shining black-eye that circled its entire left eye, and knocking it out.

Valentine, hesitating a moment to see if the wurmple would get immediately get back up, unraveled the string on his legs and picked up his egg. He stood over the fainted wurmple as it lay on the ground. He patted his indigo champion and said,

“Not bad for a first battle, eh?”

Valentine felt bad for the little wurmple somewhat. “All it wanted to do was eat,” he said, “but then again, it didn’t have to be a ferocious little bastard about it.” Valentine tilted his head to the side. He took off his backpack and picked up the wurmple. He placed it in the bag and put his egg on top of it.

“There! Now you can warm my egg and I can get you to safety at the same time. Sound like a plan?” he said to the unconscious wurmple that he was pretty sure was twitching. He zipped up his bag, put it on, and picked up his bag of not-a-beet-but-pretty-similars and headed back to the kitchen building, walking with the rest of the harvesters and their bounty.

“Geez this thing is heavy.” He said under his breath. It was even more so when he was bringing it over his shoulder to plop it on the kitchen countertop. Breathing a bit heavy, Valentine said

“Tell me when supper’s done. I’ll be in the common area.”

He couldn’t help but notice how disgusting the kitchen was- weird though, there were no dishes in the sink. Someone probably took care of it before the harvesters got there. As he was walking away, he swore he saw squirming around in the kitchen corner, but he didn’t really care at this point. He took off his backpack and sat down on the couch.

“What a day,” he thought, “I stole some stuff, I have an unconscious Pokémon in my backpack that probably requires medical attention, and oh, right, Derek might be planning to kill us. If he is, hopefully that girl is his first victim. I could deal without her being here.”

Valentine looked to his side and saw that same girl staring at him with this look on her face like she heard what he was thinking. Valentine cringed with angst like she might set him on fire or randomly stab him in the throat- or worse, start up a conversation.

Wow, lots of posts!

@Fearless Love- Nice start! I like how your character thinks - and the photography will be cool.

@Arcaray - Good work. I enjoyed your character's attitude, and I can't wait to see how she deals with the Caterpie!

@Sweet Dreams - Perfect. You can get creative with the vegetables!

@Kiyoshi the Polar Bear - Whoa, this is long! Okay. Although the stealing of the files was a good addition, some people/GM's in the future might not be okay with it. For now, it's fine I suppose. Other than that - nice post! It made me want a Wurmple...really...badly. Even a dead one xD

I know, it took me an hour an a half to create. It was fun just imagining it as a wrote.

Well I'm glad your okay with it, because I think it gives more insentive for Valentine to suspect Derek of something- give a nice psycological twist based on vague hints.

And, Arcaray, if you're not okay with Valentine possesing a file on your character, please send me a VM and we can sort things out an have something happen in the story.

And King, if you have something specific in mind for what's in the files or the fate of the wurmple- You know what, I'll ask you via VM.

(Oi, I am so sorry I haven't posted)

Jewel sighed inwardly as she was assigned kitchen duty. She was wearing a hoodie, and the egg was safely nestled in the front pocket. She trudged to the kitchen and looked around. *Well, this ought to be fun (sarcasm)*, she thought sourly. She had never successfully cooked anything in her life. Using a microwave didn't count as cooking. She had looked at the boy with the indigo egg with a sympathetic look. The girl HAD gone off. Jewel, however, wasn't phazed by this behaviour. She'd seen this kind of thing before. The poor boy looked so frightened Jewel was concerned he would pass out or run for it. But he, thankfully, did neither. Instead he went off to get vegitables. She looked out the window facing the garden, and felt bad for the boy once more. The girl that had freaked out on him was working in the garden too. *Poor boy. I hope he's ok*, she thought. She grabbed a cutting board and a knife and set them on the counter. She looked in the fridge. *Oh you have GOT to be kidding me. Only fruit and veggie's?! What the heck are we supposed to make with these?!*, she thought. Then it hit her. Jewel turned to the girl who was cutting carrots. "Hey. How does vegetable soup sound?", she asked. She didn't really know exactly how to make said soup, but she knew what went in it. "If you have another idea, please tell me. Because to be honest, I'm not coming up with anything more creative. Maybe my creativity is taking a break", she said, attempting to lighten the mood.

Grrr! I was in the middle of a REEEEEALLY long post last night and my computer decided to restart itself! Life is cruel.
Mr Polar Bear, I'm fine with you having my file, it will actually make everything much more interesting so go for it! Use it well, my friend.
I love how everyone thinks Jae is a psycho now. This is a fun character XD

Chapter 2 cont.

Jae's shrill voice cut through the air, causing the bugs to advance on her. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" She shouted, raising her lighter menacingly. She brandished the flame like a sword, missing the nearest Caterpie by an inch. The Pokemon was completely unscathed by the tiny fire, but Jae's rash movements were aggravating it. The Caterpie turned to her and raised its head, attacking with a well-aimed String Shot.

Jae's words were largely muffled by the web which had bound to her mouth, but the look of fury in her eyes was enough to send an Ursaring on its way. She shouted something completely incomprehensible, kicking the Caterpie as hard as she possibly could. It was only when the remaining Pokemon had turned to face her that she realised that it probably wasn't the best of ideas.

Shots of stringy web flew from all directions, all binding Jae's legs together firmly. She tumbled to the ground, screaming muffled curse words as she went. Her eyes watered as the Caterpie took it in turns to tackle her legs, each knocking her with incredible force for bug Pokemon. Jae lifted her lighter again and waved it fiercely at the Caterpie at her feet. The bugs were too fast and avoided the flame, but the webs on her legs caught the brunt of it. The String Shots binding her legs ignited immediately, the sudden burst of flames causing the Caterpie to shuffle backwards. Jae jumped to her feet as the webs smouldered on the earth, ripping the web from her mouth as she did so.

"Oho, now you're for it." She sneered, as inspiration struck. She grabbed a branch off the nearest plant and held it in front of her, flourishing it as if she were fencing.
"Come on, that's the best you got?" She shouted, waving the stick in the faces of the Pokemon. "Come at me, show me what you can do, you vile creatures!"

Jae's dagger-tongued mouth had done exactly what she'd expected; the Caterpie used String Shot in unison while Jae protected herself with the branch. The attack stopped and the branch was now mostly white, like an eerie stick of cotton candy.
"Good stuff, this." Jae remarked, examining the webbed stick in her hands. "One tiny criticism though? It's just a bit, uh, flammable."

Jae raised her lighter, her eyes sparkling maliciously. She set the makeshift torch alight, brandishing it in front of her like a villager in Frankenstein. She cackled maniacally as she chased the Caterpie out of sight, thrilled by her own skill.
"I am too good," she said to herself, casually throwing the torch aside. She returned to her sack and began to refill it with the half-eaten vegetation that had tumbled to the ground, and was on her way out of the field when she had noticed the cabbage patch was alight.
Ah. Probably should've put out the torch. Without hesitation, Jae swiftly left the harvesting patch, looking back when she was almost at the kitchens. The entire field was on fire, black smoke billowing out at an alarming rate.

As if nothing had happened, Jae wandered into the kitchen, dumping her sack onto the counter.
"You better do something good with these," she sneered at the cooks. "I'm not living off veggie soup all summer."
Without another word, Jae stormed out of the kitchen and into the common area, smelling her labcoat as she went. There was an overpowering smell of burnt cabbage on her clothes, but there was hardly anything she could do about it now. She sunk into a chair in the common area, biding her time until the story of the ignited field reached Sir Derek. She was by no means concerned; what were they going to do, kick her out? She'd spent most of her school life waiting for punishments, and by now she was far too used to it to care.

Jae had barely been in the common area for a few minutes when the bearded guy walked in and sat near her. She glared at him suspiciously, wondering whether he could smell the smoke on her clothes. She knew that he'd suspect her after seeing her with the lighter in the field. She continued to glare, but the boy said nothing. Jae was a little disappointed; she expected someone here to be a little hardcore and be able to stand up to her. Wasn't this where all the trouble makers were rounded up?

After a few minutes of silence, Jae rolled her eyes and sighed heavily. I suppose I'll have to make the effort then.

"So. Poisoning the entire school, were you? Pfft. You barely seem capable of hocking a loogie in a McBurger."

And who said I was bad at meeting new people?

@DarkAngel91 - No problem, some people haven't done the first mission yet so you're good. xD I'm glad your character is attempting to make a positive interaction with someone else. :)

@Arcaray - XDDDDDDD That last line was so gross. Nice work! And I haaaate it when that happens Dx (the lost post part thingy)

This is a joint post between Arcaray and I, dealing with the coversation, and then delves into what happens to Valentine for the rest of the chapter. Green is Jae, Red is Valentine. Enjoy!

CHAPTER 2, CONT.

"So. Poisoning the entire school, were you? Pfft. You barely seem capable of hocking a loogie in a McBurger." Jae said, starting up the conversation.

“It- It was an accident. It's not like I intended to almost kill a quarter of the school." Valentine said sensitively.

Jae laughed harshly. "Look kid, you don't need to defend yourself here." She said, despite being considerably younger than the boy. "I'm sure a lot of us have done much worse."

A little confused about the sudden, kindness, one could call it, Valentine asked "Yeah? What did you do to get here?"

Jae cast her mind back to the field she'd just set alight. "Like I'm going to tell you." She snarled. She didn't want anyone to have reason to suspect her. "Who the hell are you, anyway?"

"Like I'm going to tell you," Valentine playfully mimicked.

It was about time he decided to show a little of his backbone, he figured- he'd had already been shaken up enough by the day, and he wasn't going to let this girl take advantage of him, too. Although, he didn't like getting tangled in his emotions, which he had been doing a lot today.

Jae was taken aback, but slightly impressed.

"Look who's finally found his spine," She retaliated with venom in her voice, recovering quickly from the boy's unexpected change in character. She decided to throw him a bone; if she was to survive here, she'd need some sort of acquaintance. This guy would have to do. "Jae Witton. You gonna tell me your name, or what?"

"Valentine Curamos." He said with a slight pride in his voice.
He paused a minute, weirdly feeling as if her name rung a bell, even though he hadn't known this girl before. He shook it off a bit, but swiftly keeping it in the back of his mind.

"Well if you're really wondering how I accidentally poisoned the school, going back to your original question," He said leisurely, “I was assigned to making the muffins in the cafeteria for that day’s lunch, and I mistook Barb Dust, the stuff they use to make Energy Powder with, for flour. Funny enough, that stuff is poisonous in raw form."

Jae snorted. "Oh, so you're an idiot and not a subconscious badass. Disappointing." She began to regret her decision to talk to Valentine as she quickly lost respect for him. Her attention was wavering; he didn't really deserve it.

Snapping out of the little ego trip he was on, Valentine replied,
"Oh, right, and this coming from little Miss. It's-a-secret-why-I'm-here. Wo-wo, look at you all mysterious and whatnot. If you're so clearly badass, then why can't you tell me why you're here?"

And with every word, Valentine became more aggressive in approach and letting this girl tick him off, the exact opposite of what he wanted to happen. The first day here and he was already more emotional then he had been in his entire life. And he was worried he was emotionally dead a little bit.

Jae gave a thin-lipped smirk as Valentine got more and more aggressive.

"Do you really doubt that what I did wasn't badass? I can practically smell the fear coming from you." Jae sat back, yawning slightly. "Are we done?"

"I'm pretty sure what you're smelling is skepticism. Either that or the smell of your own breath. I know your type, all smoke and mirrors. Doing things like your little cabbage burning to appear all hardcore when really, you're just a poser."

Valentine was starting to realize how deep he was getting into his emotions. He didn't quite like it, but, it did give him a bit of a bite. Maybe if he learned to control his temper- the possibilities. He had a feeling that having conversations with this girl might just give him some good practice.

A poser? Smoke and Mirrors? Who does this guy think he is? Jae kept a cool front, smiling mockingly at the indignant boy.

"Look out the window to the vegetable fields, and call me a poser then." She smirked, before getting up to leave. "I'm done talking."
“If he tells anyone it was me,” she thought, “I'll kill him myself.”

Valentine, although confused about what she just said, had to ask a question before she left.

"Say, one more thing," he said as he waited for her to stop in place. "Just curious, would your full first name be Jaclyn, by any chance?"

Jae ignored Valentine as he carried on talking, but was in the doorway when she heard her name. She stopped, heart pounding. How could he possibly...? Not even her teachers knew her as Jaclyn, how could this guy...
Jae turned and pushed Valentine against the wall, disregarding the size difference. She held his shirt and her eyes flashed violently.

"My name is Jae. Never call me Jac... never call me that. Tell anyone else, anyone at all, and you'll regret it. Understand?" Jae released Valentine's shirt and stormed from the room without waiting for an answer. She had rid herself of that name seven years ago. She wasn't about to go back to it now.

Upon being released by the surprisingly strong Jae, Valentine couldn't help but feel not only suspicious of her, but all the more fascinated about what might be in the files he saw earlier that day- especially hers. Remembering what she said about the gardens, Valentine took a peek out of a window nearby. And where the gardens were supposed to be, there was an angry, raving fire, engulfing more and more vegetables as the seconds ticked away. Valentine couldn't help but clamp his hand on his mouth and have an inkling of true fear in his heart. He stepped back.

"Well then...." he thought, "If Derek fails to murder us all, she will certainly do the job for him."

He took a deep breath. He had to calm down.
He couldn’t help but think if the lack of feeling real emotional paranoia and stress maybe him especially vulnerable now. But, if he were to survive this ranch all summer, and emphasis on survive, he was going to have to be in control of himself and his temper.

Finally, supper came. It was a nice and warm vegetable- um, something. Valentine couldn’t really put his finger on it. He ate it anyway, just wanting to feel the same warmth in his stomach. He finally gotten all calm right when his backpack twitched, and he nearly had a heart attack.

“That’s it,” he thought, “I’ve had enough of this day and this freaking ranch already.”
He picked up his backpack and headed to the boys’ cabin, completely disregarding the screams and panic of people actually starting to take notice to Jae’s blazing masterpiece.

He sat down in the empty and quiet cabin and opened up his backpack. The Wurmple was still unconscious.

“Probably just more twitching.” He said. “Poor thing. Sorry for that, little buddy.” Valentine also dug out his indigo egg and hugged it closely.

“Oh dear,” he realized. “I am getting really emotional today.” He was tired of constantly thinking about his emotions now. It was getting tedious.

He set the egg down behind him on the bed and dug at the files he had picked up. “Also, It’s too bad I only grabbed my-“

And before he was even able to make his wish, there was the “Witton, Jaclyn” file right behind his own in the backpack. He picked it up without hesitation and glared at it with intensity and surprise. He slowly opened it.

It was a goldmine of information. It had her natural hair color listed, her new one, lengths of limbs, height, weight, gender, IQ, list of personality traits displayed, and even wardrobe trends.
And the most exciting information was in the newspaper clipping in her file.

“FIRE REIGNS IN ECRUTEAK” it read, describing this awful fire that killed all of a family but one little girl- Jacyln Witton. And with that, Valentine imagined Jae burning her entire family alive like she ignited the garden. There were also school reports of booby-trapping the school and setting fire to things in the laboratory. This girl was a pyromaniac and deadly. Valentine closed the file.

He put the file back in his backpack, and didn’t even bother with his own file. He threw the blanket over him and clenched his indigo egg. He released the tension he was feeling even deep in his skin with a sigh.

“Dangit, Valentine, pull yourself together.”

And in that second, Valentine came up with an idea. Fight fire with fire. If he has dirt on Jae, he can recruit her, in a way, and find out what Derek is up to. She might need him to, considering the garden is now unrecoverable ash, to help cover for her- some insentive to not kill him anyway. Maybe she wasn’t the end of him.... but a blessing in disguise. Valentine closed his eyes without another thought, and fell right asleep.

Waking up, he looked down and decided he’d read his own file now. He reached into his backpack, and felt paper-and-fabric scraps. He looked down, only to discover that the Wurmple had woken up before him, chewed through his backpack (ruining it and the files), and was now running free in the boys’ cabin.

Great,” Valentine thought sarcastically. Then he shifted his intrigue on what Derek is going to do now that his garden is a wasteland. Valentine got out of his bed and headed out the door, egg in arms.

I know the recommendation is 1-2 posts, but I'm both bored and keen. Here we see Jae as an actual human being. Shocked much?

Chapter 2 cont.

Jae left the room in a flurry of temper, her labcoat billowing behind her as she stormed to her dorm. How dare he... He doesn't know me... How dare he...

Jae entered the dorm, slamming the door behind her. Her eyes prickled uncomfortably and she fell onto the bed, breathing shallowly. Jaclyn... She hadn't heard that name said aloud for so many years, not since...

Jae shook her head rapidly, rushing to the sink to splash water on her face. "Stop being such a baby," Jae muttered. "Get a grip." Shaking her head again, changing her clothes to ones which didn't hold the stench of smoke.

Her labcoat remained, and so she sprayed it with the aerosol from the bathroom. She now smelt piney-fresh, but it was better than old cabbage. After recuperating, she returned to the hall for supper. She took the seat furthest away from Valentine, hoping that he wouldn't be in the mood to talk about their encounter. A bowl of something was placed in front of her.

Jae's harsh tongue hadn't been compromised during her moment of weakness earlier. "Urgh. Really?" She looked around the table ludicrously. "Really? I'm not eating this. Mr Barb Powder could've done a better job."
Jae pushed the bowl away from her, watching Valentine closely from across the table. She'd put enough fear in him to know he wouldn't squeal right now, but she would have to watch him carefully. He knew more than he was letting on, and she'd get it out of him somehow. Even if she had to throw him in the middle of her next pyromanic outburst.

When she was fully satisfied that Valentine wasn't going to tell the others about their little conversation, Jae stood up and left her untouched bowl on the table. She flounced out of the room and back to her dorm, her stomach growling angrily at her for leaving perfectly good sustenance so far away.

She pulled her egg out of pocket, gently caressing the smooth shell. For the first time in seven years, Jae's mind was cast back to her parents in Ecruteak. The fire was an accident, and the only one she'd ever regretted. Her eyes burned with tears at the memory of their demise, but caught herself before allowing them to fall.

She quickly turned her grief into anger like she had taught herself to do years ago, and her mind reeled at how she was stuck here with a creepy guy who thought she was a poser and some Ranch leader who thought he was a kind of God.
The bruises on her legs from her fight with the Caterpie began to sting as she tried to get comfortable, and her stomach ached with hunger. If she wasn't so stubborn, she may have been angry at herself for ... well for being stubborn. She turned onto her side, placing her egg gently beside her. She tried to force her mind into a state of ease, promising herself she'd sort out Valentine tomorrow.
