Hi guys! I am Starry Night, some of you may know me as cjerian, or Also Known as Pokedude, (which was my revenge for there already being a "Pokedude" :I). Anyways, I used to have a game in that area of the forums that is now called the Beginner's Showcase, which used to be called the Plot and Story Area or something. That game I gave up on because I wanted to actually play some games, like Mystery Dungeon. So then, I played the hack Ruby Destiny Rescue Rangers and thought, "This is an amazing game!" I wanted to make something like that too, except in RPGXP format, but didn't want to make a thread, because I was sure I was going to give up on it.

To make a long story short, I gave up on it.

Then, I rediscovered it again, and I am very close to giving you guys a beta already! I know that this makes you think, "Why won't you give up on it again?" And to that I simply reply: "I'm not going to give up, so shut up!"

(In case you don't realize, I don't actually mean that, and I am actually a very nice person.) I'm so nice in fact that now I know you're pushing the back button, and looking at other games. e.e

I decided to pick up this game again because now I am a much better scripter, and can push the "Create Text" button with keyboard shortcuts, making it 1.5x faster! I am also getting better with paint programs, so I can arrange overworlds now. The idea is simply this: I suck at giving intros, so cut me some slack. Kthxbai!

Plot:

You are at your party when suddenly multiple pokemon come in through a portal and abduct you to their world! You wake up, finding that you have been turned into a Treecko, to which you reply "Out of all the pokemon in the world, it had to be a TREECKO didn't it". The Squirtle that woke you up explains that you are now in a different world where pokemon talk and walk, and decides to take you the post office to ask the Pellipers there about what you should do.

Pelliper suggests that you form a rescue team, as they explore around and spelunk dungeons. He thinks that if you meet many new people you might figure out how to go back to your own world.

You then meet the townspeople, including a Kecleon that specializes in illegal strange items, a Pixar loving Marowak, and a bipolar Kanghaskan. Yes, I come up with the most awesome characters.

Pretty soon you get your first mission. Shinx's necklace was stolen! You have to go to the Float Cave and retrieve his necklace, fighting wild Pokemon, and even a tough boss at the end...

That's all I'm gonna say now, because I spent hours typing in all the story text into the game, and this totally spoils it

Actually, I'm not quite at 15 lines, which is needed for this thread to be posted, so more spoilers!

There is another mysterious thing. In Marowak's Dojo, there is a strange portal. He claims it can go to the future, but what can it really do? And I mean this in the most literal sense, as I don't know what it can really do because I'm not that far in the story yet

UPDATE

Well, this isn't really an update, but... I know that everyone wants to play a playable version of everyone's games, but the amount of material in my game right now is just very very little, going past the first dungeon. But I've tested it myself multiple times and it should work perfectly, so I don't see a problem in releasing it to the public. I do understand that I badly need a title screen, though. I'm gonna fiddle with photoshop for a while, and if someone else would like to help with making the title screen, whereas giving me sprites/advice, or just doing part of it for me, I would be very thankful, and would put your names in the credits, and give you e-cookies, etc. etc. And pay-pal you $0. And give everyone the beta.

I'm obsessed with PMD games :D
They are my absolute favorite :D (By the way DJG's hack is Rescue Rangers =))
It kinda disappoints me that the only starter is Treecko but I understand that giving player choice of starter and then playing as that pokemon would be hard to implement =)
But even though I wish you the best of luck =)

UPDATE

Well guys, after realizing our tiles sucked, DarthSenorQueso and I agreed on a complete tileset overhaul to HG/SS. I took some screenies to show you how it looks. At some point we will de-modernize building outdoors and indoors, but if I draw out the new building tilesets, the game will look like Super Mario Paint GBA. XD

This so far looks impressive,but since when did Pokemon lived in human sized houses?,also the backsprite need some work,even though you said it was temporary,because some edges are cut off the sprite.

The problems you listed I have taken into account. At some point the houses will be turned into huts, when I find someone who can draw who wants to help out. XD I can't really draw anything at all...

The trainer backsprite will not be fixed because...

1) I'm too lazy to.
2) It's temporary.

Thanks XD Lucario as of now is just an NPC that walks around and says one line, so Float Island doesn't seem like a ghost town, lol. It's possible I'll give him a bigger role at some point.

I mainly need help with spriting and tiles, and maybe a scripter. If you want to be a mapper, that might help too, but it's not high on my list right now (: Beta testing is always open, so you can always sign up for that.

I needed to post this update to bump this thread to the top! What?! Lol, while waiting for DarthSenorQueso to finish the new volcano map so I could event on it, I decided to add a event in Silent Woods, the 2nd dungeon, to make it more interesting. So here ya go, in a nice spoiler format.

This isn't really an update either, because I haven't really worked on the game since the last update.

I'm not going to lie here. I was not working on the game. I was instead watching Yogscast minecraft videos on youtube.

I do need your opinions on the final team in the game. Right now it is as follows:



This much I know for certain. Obviously there are 3 more slots and I need your help on what you want the pokemon to be that you obtain.

One of the pokemon is going to be electric, so I was thinking Mareep/Shinx, whichever one feels more appealing? :I

The other 2 you should just tell me about. Otherwise you'll be stuck with a Magikarp and a Wurmple that can't evolve >:D

Anyway i was going to say Lotad because i am baised as he is my fav but since you have a water and a grass already im going to say Shinx becuase i dislike mareep Lol, Electrike is a good electric type that isnt Pika, Now two others.... hmm Maybe Scyther? it would be good to have a slasher... err...Riolu?... Aron?..... Abra?...

I think Riolu is a great idea, and probably cause I'm all biased and stuff. I wouldn't use Scyther because the team is mostly made up of tiny pokemon and not big ones. Scyther would look out of place, like the only skinny guy in the McDonalds. OK, that was mean.

Abra I'm not using because I would have to screw around with his moveset, teleporting is not the best offense. XD
