That's 3D for you. I never was really fond of 3D pokemon models (even back at Stadium days), and I would prefer cell-shaded art instead on the newer models. Just me, perhaps.

I'm not fond of 3D Pokemon models too. In fact, I like the models from the third Generation, but the older ones are too good to forget. Egh, just seems weird.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling we'll be seeing some sort of 3D modeling when we get the first 3DS Pokemon game... hopefully it'll at least look better than the horrendous "3D-ized" sprites they used for B/W that were so ugly and pixelated...

Nothing beats classic old-school 2-D sprites. IMO, the designers have to take some liberties when converting a 2D sprite or Sugimori drawing to 3D...

Well Sabre, have you seen the 3D models for the Pokedex on the 3DS yet? I'm assuming they'll be similar to that.

I don't know what kind of improvement those liberties would bring if some people don't like the 3D style in the first place.

If anyone has played some 3D Naruto games, you'll see how they use a 3D style that is actually something like a vivid 2D imitation. Now that's the 3D I'd like to see on Pokemon.

The 3D Pokedex models are pretty good in my opinion. I do question whether they will be able to successfully implement similar models into the 3D Pokemon games without making them appear too "bad" though.

The biggest issue I foresee is that they'll be much, much smaller which could be a problem. :x

How so? As far as depth (or visual bulkiness goes) the 3D make up for it better than the 2D models, although lacking in other fields. So what exactly do you mean by 'small'?

Note I haven't seen the 3D pokedex yet

Well the 3D pokedex models are quite large indeed. So the dimension will have to be modified appropriately to actually be used in any future Pokemon games. This scaling factor has the potential to distort the models perhaps?

No, I haven't gotten a 3DS yet... still working with my old Lite, lol.

The problem with scaling that I've seen (just from scaling photos) is that sometimes details like thin lines or dots disappear completely. That could be a problem with a lot of Pokemon mouths and some styles of eyes as well (Chansey and Cyndaquil perhaps who have thin lines for eyes).

Well, for reference, here are some of the models. I just don't really feel like they'd translate as well to a sprite-sized image. xD

(So it seems I've been coaxed into posting here xD)

Since I do not own a 3DS, the only 3D models that I've game experience with is in Pokemon Battle Revolution on the Wii. Personally, I'm neutral on having 3D models but from seeing some Pokemon in three dimensions, I have to say that issues such as distortion and looking unrealistic may arise. Sometimes 3D Pokemon look uglier and slightly "messed-up" compared to 2D sprites(which has a lesser margin for errors). For example, the Bronzong here looks too cubic and stiff instead of having a curved outline like a bell. In 2D, I infer that it would look very off.

I'm not even sure when I'll be getting a 3DS. At the moment it still doesn't really seem worth it imo.

MarioKart is the only thing keeping my 3DS out of my closet right now. I'd wait until a new Pokemon game comes out before I'd bother getting one.

It's the only 3DS game I currently own. I purchased my 3DS around April last year and I regret it. It has served some purpose to me though but for the most part, I should have waited until Mario Kart was released to buy one.

I would take SR's advice and wait until the next Pokemon games come out for the 3DS to buy one.

Mario Kart and Tales of the Abyss would be the only two 3DS games I would consider getting. And even then I don't have nearly enough money to just go out and pick one up, being unemployed as I am. But I'm not sure I'd pick up a 3DS Pokemon game sight unseen... White taught me that I can no longer pick up a Pokemon game and be assured that I'll enjoy it.

At least my brother can be counted on to pick up any main series Pokemon game, so I can get his thoughts before plunking down money on any future 3DS Pokemon games.

I've never played a Mario game past a really old one for N64. So many people I know suggest Mario Kart but I'm just so stingy with my money. ]: That and I only have a Nintendo DS and PS2 that's been gathering dust for years.

I already have MarioKart Wii which is somewhat 3D on a wide screen so the 3DS is obsolete to me. I just don't understand what's the big deal over 3D games without goggles. I mean, I wouldn't want a Pokemon's move to be jumping out at me in a battle. xD

3D Goggles O_o never heard of those, heard of 3D glasses. And the 3D is just a gimmick like Wii, Wii Motion Remote.

As for the 3DS games I am content thus far with Mario Kart 7, Super Mario Land 3D, Pokemon Rumble Blast, Samurai Warrior Chronicles.

So did I until I saw one. ;_; I think Wii is a gimmick because Nintendo didn't care much for it and didn't do much to increase it's popularity. All the Pokemon games on the Wii (i.e. PBR, Pokepark etc) seemed to be the kind of games you play when you're totally bored and there's not real plot in the game.

Pokemon Rumble Blast receives the same reaction I gave to its predecessor. When I looked at the box, I was like "Meh...". I didn't really get the plot(if there was any x/) and the graphics didn't appeal to me that much.

Wii definitely needed a Colo/XD style game based on 4th gen Pokemon... sadly we never got one. maybe there will be a 5th gen sequel on either the 3DS or the Wii replacement console (which i can never remember the name of xD)

Probably when I get the 3DS, I'm gonna turn the 3D effect off all the way, it's just in the way imo and it's a bother, and with that turned off, it's just a spiffy improved DS Lite, so I'll probably only buy it when my current one is broken.

Yeah the 3D factor is such a gimmick to promote the console in all honesty. It's cool to use it but after a while, I don't bother.

I'm still trying to figure out how the 3-D effect of the 3DS would enhance any game's actual gameplay. It sounds more like a novelty to me, and could possibly serve as a distraction. I mean, with the 3-D turned off, is the thing any better graphically than the old DS hardware?
