Strangly enough, the gym trainers gave me more trouble than the leader
Primape fell quickly to Surf(s)
As for Poliwrath, I strarted by paralyzing him, then I switched to my recently evolved Tentacruel who confused him. Then, Wrap and Acid did the trick
After that, I flew back to Olivine and destroyed Jasmine with Quagsire
Even Steelix didn't stand a chance despite a 9 level gap.
Then, I went to Lake of Rage and caught the red Gyarados.
I'm now with Lance in the Mahogany Team Rocket Headquarters

Version: FireRed.
Type: Normal.

Progress::

• Ran into a sleeping snorlax. Used the pokeflute to wake him up, battled a little with my raticate Twister, and caught him. Nicknamed "Volcano".
• Made it to Fuchsia City where I battled Koga and defeated him.
• Played around in the Safari Zone for awhile. Wanted to stay long enough to catch some real exciting Normal-types, but lost patience. Obtained HM Surf and peaced out.
• Taught Volcano HM Surf. Surfed down to Seafoam Islands for the training experience, but didn't stick around too much there. (Also reminded me that I have yet to get HM Strength...woops, better get on that.)
• Flew to Pallet Town on my Farfetch'd, Ch'ding, and surfed down on towards Cinnabar Island.

Started playing in Platinum before I read the reply, so I'll gonna pause it in favor of Gen I and II games.

I also intend to hack a Beldum, Skarmory and Aron in FireRed. Can I do that?

Well, I don't think you actually have to play FireRed for a Steel monotype, since it didn't exist in Gen I. (Dark type as well)

Illuminaughty, your counsel is needed.

But hacking should be allowed if you want to do the Kanto games.

You can get your first pokemon before the first gym (trade in Violet City for the Onix, who evolves into Steelix), so per the rules you can't hack anyone in. As for evolving Scyther, GTS doesn't work with emulators, but you can either evolve him by editing him with Pokesav, or by using a Evolution Editor, which you can find pretty easily. Make sure you get one for HG/SS, and you'll need to use it for Steelix, too, hehe. I think the steel pokemon available in SS are: Steelix, Magneton/zone, Forretress, Scizor, and Skarmory. so you have more than enough options.

-Saw Prof. Oak and the usual crap. Told him my name is Baron.
-Got kicked out of the house by Mom and attacked outside by a pesky Marill.
-Went to the Lab and chose Totodile. My first slave.
-The usual crap. Errands, etc. Went to Mom to receive her blessing.
-Went to Cherrygrove Town and was harassed by a dirty old man pretending to be a gent. Given Running Shoes and Map as compensation (like it was enough).
-Went to Mr. Pokemon's house, killing all who oppose me along the way.
-Got ordered by Mr. Pokemon and Prof. Oak.
-Ordered by Prof. Elm (again!) to go back.
-Encountered the thief along the way and was called a noob. Killed his weaking of a Pokemon in return.
-Returned and was mistaken by the perennially late police as the thief. Lyra defended me. (Like I need it. I can beat the crap out of him.)
-Was forced by the irritating police to tell the name of the thief: Blitz.
-Gave the Mystery Egg and gave me the idea of destroying the gyms.
-Went again to Mom for a financial plan.
-Went to Violet Town, destroying all wild Pokemons and enemy Teams and captured a Bellsprout along the way.
-Forced the kid in Violet City to trade his Onix for my Bellsprout.
-Destroyed the Sprout Tower and all of its trainers, while also grinding Rocky the Onix.

Level grinded everybody up to Lv 40
took on the Elite 4

1 - Will was, by far, the most annoying. 3 words : STOP SPAMMING PSYCHIC
It took me forever to take his Jynx down.

2 - Koga was the second most annoying. Quagsire was doing fine when, all of a sudden... you know it's comming... EXPLOSION! *faint*... RAGE!

3 - Bruno was almost single-handedly defeated by Tentacruel thanks to Barrier / Rain Dance / Surf

4 - Karen was victim of hax . Dynamic punch hit on the first try, Vileplume suffered a Critical Ice Punch, Gengar flinched to Bites (once paralyzed). Houndoom was the only one who posed a threat taking down Quagsire because Crunch lowered his SpD and dark is still special... -.-'

Lance - He was sorta tricky... (teach Hyper Beam to ALL the pokémon!) Ice Punch 2HKO all the dragonites, Spark OHKOed Gyarados. Charizard and Aerodactyl were taken down by Tentacruel using Barrier (to soften HB blows) and Rain Dance and Surf did the job.

-Because I took time searching for Rocky II, the egg hatched.
-Dammit Vulpix! Roared Rocky II and forced Togepi to appear.
-Cleared Union Cave. Went to Azalea Town.
-Saw a man harassed by a goon.
-What? Team Rocket is still alive and kicking?
-Convinced (or rather kicked the butt of) dirty old man Kurt to go to Slowpoke Well.
-Rocket grunt fell down and lost his crown and (dirty) old man Kurt came tumbling after!

Yeah. Didn't think of that. That was in the middle of the battle and I forgot the rule. Sorry. Will not do that again.

Just a small update before I went back to class:

-Returned to Violet City and after minutes of making my Togepi's head ache because of multiple Headbutts, captured a Pineco. Named him Spike.
-Currently grinding Spike to acceptable levels. Excited that I will now be forced at some time after this to use Selfdestruct/Explosion. Never used them before. :D

Post #3 : Team Rocket Takeover, Celadon Edition!

-Went into Celadon, headed straight for the gym.
-Used Fearow throughout most of the gym to level up, finished up with Pidgeotto.
-Went to the Game Corner, got distracted by the though of Porygon. To the poster!
-Trying to clear up my bag, realized Raticate can learn Thunderbolt!
-Goodbye Giovanni. Oh, you dropped a Silph Scope!
-Hey, I aquired an Eevee!
-After going through TMs, Raticate knows Hyper Fang, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Dig.
-Gave the gaurds my water!
-Now its time to slay ghost with my normal types!
-Oh right, Green was there. Not anymore.
-Calmed the Marowak. :')
-Rescued Mr. Fuji from the Rockets. Got a nice flute for a nice normal Pokemon.
-Caught Snorlax! Back to Silph!
-Found Green after a little difficulty, beat him.
-Sorry Lapras, Im not getting you.
-Beat Giovanni again, rewarded with a master ball.
-Beat the "Gym", but I did not take a prize.
-Time to navigate through Sabrina's!
-Beat her pretty easily actually... There's another badge.
-Fogot to get a bike... There's a glitch for that!
-I think Ill try to get a Tauros?
-Caught a Kangaskhan instead. Fair enough. Along with teeth and an HM.
-Got rid of Eevee for Oddish. :/
-Got strength.
-Defeated Koga, so Ill go beat Blaine now.
-Had to get a key first. -.-
-Snorlax's time to shine with Surf!
-Okay, Snorlax fainted second trainer.
-Blaine defeated, now the mysterious 8th leader.
-8th badge conquered. Time for Victory Road. And Green!
-There goes Green. No way Ill beat him again without leveling up...
-Out of the cave, but back into it to grind!

EDIT: So I got bored of grinding, next episode!

-Bought some revives and full restores.
-Defeated Lorelei, reviving Raticate afterwards.
-Defeated Bruno, reviving Snorlax afterwards.
-Defeated Agatha, no fainting.
-Defeated Lance. Healed Fearow mid battle, lost raticate. Revive them all!
-Defeated Green. Revived Fearow and healed him at least twice.

-Cyndaquil was a reasonable mentor, now he's in the box.
-Did some leveling up. Everyone but Sentret sis Lvl. 10. Future for him is not looking good...
-Went through Bellsprout Tower, Pidgey is level 14 now.
-Did some excessive running, then trained my ne Togepi to level 9.
-Got through that cave.
-Defeated Team Rocket at the well.
-Bugsy is down, badge two!
-Had no problem with Silver, and my Pidgey evolved!
-In the forest, I learned headbutt to find a monkey!
-Rattata evolved outside the daycare. Im starting to have second thouts about the monkey already.
-Got a bike this time!
-Whitney and her cow is done, no rollout problem!
