It's all in the title! Is there a certain thing you'd like to see implemented in OC&D? Are there any improvements or changes to the forum that you'd suggest?

Other areas of interest:

Pairing thread back to OC&D?
Revive the Post your Problems thread?
Holiday & Get-Together Events?
MOTY feedback?
New/amended Prefixes?
Emblems?
Type of threads?
The Like Button?

Don't hesitate to add anything you deem important, any and all feedback is appreciated!

The post your problems thread I thought was really good. Honestly? Some topics here should have the no-revival-if-it's-longer-than-3-months rule instead of 1 month. Some older thread had some really good content that it's like "oh hey I feel like asking about Aliens. Oh.. there's a thread that's 2 months old, better make a new one. Why? If the old one was good why not continue it? If it's dead for 3+ months then it's totally valid to just make a new one.. but otherwise? I think it's more productive to just continue the thread.

Pairing thread wont bring activity back.. it is fine in the other section.. and to be honest, MOTY can be nice but it is essentially a popularity contest.

What sort of prefixes? Discussion? News? Other?

Holiday and Get-Together seem more like an announcement thing to me.

Nothing else is jumping out right now.. um.. maybe an "about me" thread might be cool? Could get discussion going a bit? But egh.. just sharing my other thoughts. Hope they help at least a bit.

Honestly, I personally feel like 1 month is enough to warrant a new thread for something. Increasing it could get confusing and messy and it'd take longer to see if there are other active threads - a reason why I'm generally against forums not supporting a 1-month rule. Also, the front page of OC&D generally spans 3-4 weeks so it's easy to see at a glance which threads are alive or not. It just seems easier to me to have 1 month as the cut-off date for thread revival.

Agreed with the pairing thread not having much of a place in this section. Its content isn't particularly interesting or discussion-worthy at all. Better suited to OVP and even better suited to OT, where iirc it's sat now. I'd like to leave it there.

I like this idea. Not sure how it'd work or how long it'd last - more so when it probably wouldn't be a sticky, especially if we do bring the Post Your Problems thread back, but I quite like it. The DCC runs pretty smoothly and has a nice group of regulars in it and I think we could strengthen that if we were to have such a thread.

For a moment I almost forgot the multi-quote button didn't exist. What is this.

This would be a cool idea tbh. Perhaps a place where we can spill the beans on what we want to would be cool. Or perhaps, we can have a thread where we can vote on members, then for like, a few days, a thread can be made about them where members can ask questions about that member.

It's almost like what GBAtemp does with their "Know your tempers" segments, they ask members if they're willing to participate, and other members can vote for who goes up next. And once a member is chosen, they PM them to let them know that it's their turn up, then they make a Q&A thread. Then after they do their Q&A for a few days, they go back to the member voting and choose the next participant. Perhaps PC can try the same thing. Only thing I see going wrong is that it'll turn into a bunch of fits and arguments because they weren't picked that week.

I thought of this because GBAtemp isn't the best place to do these kinds of things, because there's a lot of immature idiots there, so perhaps doing it here under more controlled circumstances could be better. (Plus RL and Livey do awesome jobs at moderating so yeah)

Perhaps a few more can be added here tbh. The only one I am currently aware of is the emblem that is given if you make a thread that can warrant 100+ replies (I actually got this one twice lmao), but perhaps have some more emblems here can encourage people to make more topics and post more.

Would an "about me" thread be a lot more like an OVP kind of thing? Unless I'm misunderstanding it. o_O

Also I don't agree with moving the revival rule anywhere older than one month. OC&D is very much at its heart a place where people reply and discuss with each other. In OVP or PVP or other sections, you're not having a discussion so your post is independent to the rest and it doesn't matter what people before you said. But even within the one-month rule I've seen people create long, carefully crafted replies to someone that hadn't posted in 3 weeks in the thread, and never came back to reply.

Could always have a sign up thing or something and every week have like 5 or so members answering questions? That way it's open to everyone.. and you can only have your turn again after a month?

Or just keep it going.. see what people have in common, etc. The thing I'd worry about is it becoming like a DCC, but.. I think if there are some rules put in place and some planning it could be nice.

I agree, it's hard to offer any sort of thoughts/ advice because Live and RL do a very good job around here, and I find myself back here a lot- but I know what they mean by trying to bustle activity.

And heck, I see why people like the 1 month no revival rule but sometimes I see older stuff posted in that gets locked because of it and it was like "damn I'd like to have replied but it's not worth it enough for me to make a whole new thread about it." *Shrug*

Wouldn't the "about me" thing kind of like an AMA (ask me anything) thread for members who sign up? That's what it sounds like. As for how to boost activity again, honestly OC&D always relied on the DCC to establish the regular posters who will be willing to post other things. It's just a matter of effort for existing members to keep the ball rolling and make sure that it won't stop.

Post your problems maybe nice for it to come back, but again it requires the regulars of OC&D to get the ball rolling first for it to be fun. As for the others, I agree with Kura that we probably don't need them (or they can stay where they are now.) Those voting things can get so ridiculous at times though... in the past, it keeps adding more and more obscure/absurd categories... it loses its fun factor really quickly.

Proably modify the revival rule, say... 1 month revival time for topics with less then 25 posts, 2 months for topics with more then 25 posts.

This would be a fun idea, as it could allow more popular topics to come back if need be.

I did like the Post Your Problems thread. It seems like it could be as good as the Dear Anonymous thread over in OVP insomuch as it's a chance for someone to get something off their chest, but also give us a chance to help people, or at least offer our sympathies.

Hm. I'd need to think about the exact numbers and all, but Mr. X, your idea is petty good. I quite like it.

Regarding the PYP thread - I'm getting to the point now where, by popular demand, I'd personally consider bringing it back although this'd need discussion with Livewire of course. What I don't want, though, is for it to turn into what it was last time - either a place for the most minor of issues such as "I dropped a mark I shouldn't have dropped on a test" or a place for the most major ones. I'd rather it be somewhere people can ask for advice - not strictly about a problem, but about a situation, - about a matter which is neither too trivial nor too serious for this forum. Simply calling it the Advice Thread rather than Post Your Problems, which gives off the wrong idea imo, would be a good start probably. But if it was to be brought back, what sort of regulations and all that do you guys think should be set in place to achieve something like what I just described? I know some of you will say that even serious issues should be discussable here but... I really disagree personally and feel that offline help is the only way forward in some cases, or at least a forum more specialist than our own.

Perhaps a renaming is in order: "Counseling" instead of post your problems? Though seems like that may be "too serious" by your definition there.

Personally though, online 'counseling' with randoms have its place. It's not as intimidating as searching for real life help, and sometimes what people seek for is what a fellow "normal, common person" at around similar age will do. It has its advantage that we aren't some specialized forum but just a place for fellow teenagers and young adults. If anything, it's the people answering in this thread that if these everyday common people also recommend offline help or specific professional help in a certain direction, then that person is probably more likely to seek help. Think of it like positive peer pressure? If everyone else thinks that there's no issues with seeking professional help, then that person may feel more comfortable with the idea to do so.

Perhaps the thread just needs a few rules for things that are "off limits" like medical advice. Making it a "peer counseling" thread might be a really good idea because then the thread is more about the people offering responses than the people dumping their problems.

Personally though I don't see much of a problem of people posting whatever problem they have as long as the responses to it are polite. (Wouldn't want to see someone get a rude response because maybe they didn't word something right or they weren't asking about something "important" enough and so on.) Not everyone is gonna know what is serious or not (especially if it feels really serious at the moment).

Is the reason the old thread went away because it got too spammy or what?

As has been said, and only for the sake of persistence, the Post Your Problems thread was a great idea. The thread revival limit should be increased in this forum because some older threads are worth reviving and contain the opinions of people who worked hard on wording their views, and it'd be a shame to have to restart a thread instead of reviving the old one.

3 Months would be pretty good.

@Scarf: sounds like it turned into PC-twitter or something and was eventually gutted. Or, the said advice pointed everything to a toxic environment of some sort...

I like the idea of an advice thread myself as long as it's monitered and people are posting serious advice and intend to help people. That's the only way it would work for me. I honestly don't really like the " Member of the Year" thing because it is a popularity contest, and I kinda dislike those. I guess that's all I have for now.

The MotY contest is discussed by the entire staff team every year. While it's posted in this section, Livewire and I actually have just as much say in it as any other staff member - hence, while we're happy to bring feedback from this thread to the other staff, we're unable to simply remove it. That'd take a good number of staff (and probably an HQ vote) to decide on.

It was either really trivial stuff or stuff where people need more professional help than anything - an example which you gave is medical things. Others were some really dark things which offline support or online would be more appropriate for rather than this section as a whole. If that changes, though, it could still come back in light of this thread.

If MOTY were to be removed from this section, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be moved to Other Trivia, where all trivial things on PC seem to end up.

I really like this idea. That way, the event can stay, but it's just in a new home.

That's if worst comes to worst though. If it stays in OC&D, well, yay!
