Something else I noticed in the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y trailer, was that the character was not moving diagonally, more like in the same movement pattern as Generation V had. Did anyone notice the same thing? Does this mean that the Running Shoes make a return? This is the place to discuss about the Running Shoes in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

Researching the NDS ROMs...
sure does feel like a brand new adventure!
I'm gradually learning to use Microsoft Visual Studio!
Always focus on the present, best thing to do! Never look back into the past and never worry about anything bad of the future!

The male character seemed to be using roller skates/ blades in one of the video snippets so I'm thinking that the running shoes may have been swapped out for them. At least it would make sense to go faster with skates on than a pair of magic shoes :P
Yep, the male is definitely wearing rollerblades at one point. However, the protagonists clearly run at various points throughout the video, so... if the rollerblades replace anything, I'd say it'll be the Bike.
Alternatively, now that the world is fully 3D and probably at a larger scale (at least to some extent) than past games, maybe we'll automatically be able to run without the need of enabling Running Shoes, by the game just saying "Hold the B Button to run!"
Whether they're there or not, at least there's a quicker way to getting around the place before being given some kind of vehicle :P
I'm working on an album of Pokémon-inspired music. Check out the Soundcloud link if you're interested!
Anyway, I also saw Roller Skates, which would be cool, but it would need to tie in with the story a little bit. It is a bit odd if they are Roller Skates, in my opinion, as they are only like, 30-40 years late for that craze! XD
Well i saw the protagonists running in the video so i think the rollerblades are replacing the bikes.I like the new addition and it actually makes sense to carry around a pair of rollerblades in your bag rather than a bicycle.
I'm thinking that running will be an immediate option and that these are a step up or that they replace running shoes. Cycling is huge in Europe (especially France) isn't it? So I doubt that the bike is being replaced but then again Nintendo loves to surprise us it could be anything, hell maybe they are limited to a specific city.
Well it appears my thread was merged. Didn't noticed the other thread, oops. Anyway, I think they will be an option along with the Running Shoes. You will be able to run but also choose to roll on wheels if you'd want to. I don't see them replacing the bike since it is faster than the Running Shoes/Rollerskate and have been with the games since Gen 1. That would upset many fans including me.
I can see the bike being replaced by skates, but not running shoes. In the trailer, the guy seemed to be using running shoes at one point and then skates at another, and I never saw him use a bike (though that doesn't mean it won't show up, so eh).
...Maybe we'll have running shoes, skates, and a bike. :D
I think it'd be great if they applied logic to this generation and allow us to run without the need for any "specialized shoes." Why can't we run with regular shoes on? If they're fit enough for travel, they should be fit enough for running.
Then we can either receive the skates as a gift by someone we meet and/or it can replace the bike altogether. I actually wouldn't mind them doing something along the lines of RSE, where the roller skates can be used for certain obstacles and the bike for others. So long as we don't need to keep going back to some shop to switch them. Heh.
I'm really crossing my fingers that we can run at the start of the game without any instructions on how to run. Those instructions always take away so much from being immersed in the game (PRESS B AND YOU'RE ZOOMING!!, and things similar to that). It's like, oh, it's just a game and suddenly a character in it is talking to me instead of my character. It just seems so unnatural. I feel like I'm the only one who didn't see rollerblades in the trailer, and even looking at the screencaps some have posted, I still don't make them out to be it. But rollerskates would be really cool and a nice change to the typical game.
