I disagree! More legendaries to catch means more stuff to do! True, they tend to get sloppy when they make too many (like tornadus, thundurus, and landorous all having basically the same sprite) but at least it's fun.

Maybe they can do a trio hinting at next gen's region like how the Muskeeters referenced France. Like one mentioned they could use the five directional gods of China (the fifth is Huanglong of the Center), as Emboar was Chinese, opposed to French inspired Serperior (I think the Unova starters might've been hints to what was coming...). And if they do a second trio again make it reference a Native American legend like how the Kami trio went back to Japan stories.

I was thinking to myself how interesting it would be if we got something like a Theater trio. I imagine they'd each represent a major stage of expression, like happy, sad, and mad. Or even neutral for the latter!

We've received the Pokemon that inspired songs and dance (Meloetta), so, I think a legendary trio that inspired acting would be really cool to see!

I think it would be kind of cool if the trio had to do with horses. Perhaps one could be a pegasus, one could be a unicorn, and the third could be a mustang. I feel like this would never happen, but it would be kind cool to see.

Another brainstorm idea for a legendary trio: A quartet based on The Little Engine That Could, similar to the Musketeer trio with its fourth member being blue and an event legendary.

I hope we only get TWO Legedarys (Yeah gamefreak, a even number of legends, Suck it ). I am starting to get tired of legendarys :\. B&W 2 was just overkill. I mean, 7+ LEGENDARYS!?!?!?!?!? no more. and btw the "deers" are unicorns... yep, gamefreak has gone brony on us .

Please return to Hoenn numbers aka 8. The mascot trio, the side trio, and two event legends. one of the events can be the Master of the mascots a la Arceus, and the other is connected to the side trio a la Keldeo, or it could also be a trio Master.

It still baffles me that GF got so much backlash after DPPt for having so many legends and went on to have... even more in BW(2). I hope they've learned their lesson this time because last time round I really just stopped caring about the legends, which had never happened before.

As for legendary trio speculation, it could be anything. Seeing as the region is based on France, the strongest possibility right now is probably something based on liberty/equality/fraternity, but then they already did the "group of moral legends" thing in Gen V so who knows. As long as they don't make them as copy n' paste as the IV/V legends (much as I loved the IV trio), I don't mind.

Just read through all the ideas earlier on in the thread and there are some excellent ones. But the above quote made me think about merging the idea of the four classical elements with the "female ghost" thing someone else mentioned. They could end up looking like the four main elemental cards on Cardcaptor Sakura. Of course, they can hardly rip them off entirely, but if they did something that at all resembled Cardcaptors, I think I'd die of joy.

I'm gonna go with those supporting the Yggdrasil theory for the two main Legendaries and say that the trio (if we get one this generation) will also be based in Norse mythology. I just Googled trios in Norse myth and apparently, there is a trio of deities called the "Norns" who are reminiscent of the Fates of Ancient Greek mythology. There could be a trio based on either the Norns or the Fates. Likewise, there could just as easily be a trio of pokémon based on another Norse creature, such as trolls, giants, or elves.

Has no one really posted the possibility of the trio/quartet being based on the Valkyrie of Norse mythology?

There are several mentioned in different poems and such, but really only three or four are necessary. GameFreak could design them all to look like half-horse/half-spirit like creatures (Valkyrie are known to ride pegasi). Alternatively, they can be represented by a raven, a swan and a horse, the three animals connected to the Valkyrie.

As far as typing, well that all deals with which Valkyrie are represented. Skuld (Debt, or Future) could be Flying/Psychic or Psychic/Fighting, while others could be a mixture of part-Flying or part-Fighting types.

I think it would be fine with a large amount og legendaries. Not like being legendary makes something instant uber, and I personally think sitting there trying to catch them is actually fun. I constantly wonder, though, how they would design a Z legendary.

Z will likely be a serpent of some kind with a backwards s stance, Xerneas doesn't look all that X like either so it can be done.

For the none main trio they could based it on Liberté Faternité, Egalité the phase of the french revolution. We got Emotion, Willpower, and Knowledge so why not?

Seeing just two would be terribly boring tbh, not even generation one had just two, and there's been legendary trios since then, which suggests that chances are there will be another trio but perhaps not as awesome as the three flying birds, but maybe it will be awesome YOU NEVER KNOW! Well, not til the games are out at least.

Making it like MLP isn't a bad thing imooooo only because I like MLP's ponies.

A bit of variety might make it pretty good, and thinking of those types ideas, they seem that they would be great with the design.

i certainly hope there will be no pony-like pokemon (c'mon guys... you already have keldeo) and no horses cause the last trio is already "horse" enough for me.
also, we already have plenty of air and ground (not talking about the type) based trios so i think it would be great to have a sea based trio this time around or maybe one of each.

actually, now that i think about it the cover legends might just do that, assuming we get the Z legend as well.
Y is bird-like, X is grounded so Z could easily be a sea serpent.
Guess i'll just have to wait and see what they decide(d).

I wish the version mascots could just be duos instead being part of a trio (ex: Lugia and Ho-Oh). And not too much on the number of legendary PKMN. Big change from 5 legendary pokes in Gen 1 to 13 now in Gen 5. I'll settle for just the 2 version mascots, ONE trio and ONE event PKMN. If GAMEFREAK were to add another 13 legendary PKMN, it would bring the total count to 63 (including Xerneas and Yveltal). Aren't legendary PKMN suppose to rare :\ ?

I'm hoping they make a Steel/ghost,Ground/normal, Flying/Dark trio putting together the times that neutralize another type completly Steel is affected by Poison, Ghost isn't affected nor affects Normal, etc.
