I've had older - I had Betamax tapes.
Betamax came as a competitor to the VHS tape from Sony. Except it didn't last long (But what from Sony does?). Apparently a standard VCR can still read the audio from a Betamax tape though, but not the video.

So, who all here had or still has a game boy?
Not pocket, not color, not advanced or sp, I mean the original game boy.

It didn't last long but not because it was poor quality - It was of a lot higher quality then VHS tapes at the time. But it was also more expensive. The picture quality and construction of the tape were a lot better then vhs's. The picture quality on vhs tapes improved, but betas were still constructed better.

A vcr wouldn't be able to read anything, technically, because of the size difference - Both in the tapes shell, and the size of tape it used.

What killed it was the prices - vhs, both the tapes and players, were cheaper to produce.

And yes, Beta's are older. They were released in May '75 while VHS were released in October '76.

Fast Forward to around 2:30.

I love it when somebody asks me something like "What were some of it's features?" when i'm talking about the classic game boy and i'm just like "It played games." :}

The NES! Yes! I still have a huge library of NES titles!
That, the 64, the Psone, and the game boy will forever hold a place in my heart place. :}

I've been on a retro video game hunting spree lately. Emulating is nice but there's just something about having an old SNES to play Link to the Past on that just feels right. 8)

Or a GBC to play Silver.

I know what you mean, I really big on retro games myself and certainly agree that the real thing is always better.

...So... anyone got a good topic?

I used to pull NES's out of dumpsters. Seriously.

One of the best days of my life was when me and my dad were dumpster diving, and I pulled out a garbage bag with a NES, all the cords (connectors, 2 brick controllers and a zapper), and 6 games. The power supply was broken but my dad fixed it - Sorta. The supply ended up catching fire about a month later but by then I'd already found another, thankfully in one piece and working, supply.

I found more since then, but none of them ever worked. One was smashed all to hell, another had a broken loader, and two I had no idea what was wrong with them.

I bought a SNES at a yardsale for $7. All cords, worked, and had some games.

I ended up selling all of them a few years later.

Never had a GB. Had a couple GBCs - Traded for and bought, one got stolen and I later sold the other one. As for games, all I had was pokemon yellow, pokemon silver, pokemon crystal, and some GB game that I can't remember the name of. Gave yellow to a friend, threw away silver and crystal after the battery died, and I forgot what happened to the other game.

The earliest console I have is a GBC. It was a huge deal for me to get that because my parents were decidedly anti-video games before then. :( So I never got to play the original Gameboy or (S)NES aside from when I'd be at friends or family's houses.

I still hold a bit of a grudge against my parents from when they wouldn't buy our neighbour's SNES from their garage sale for $15 with all their games. That was well over a decade ago. :P

It's weird to think back on, too, since now my parents are totally okay with it. (When I got my first job, my mom really insisted I spend my first paycheque on a 360, haha.)

I need to bring my Japanese GSC games to a repair shop and get the batteries replaced. Got the three of them off of eBay for $20.

And if I can get a NES copy of Final Fantasy, I should try figuring out how the Reset/Power Off saving thing works. I still can't figure it out for the life of me.

I think the earliest console that I still have is also a GBC. I definitely had a Game Boy Pocket but I'm pretty sure that was thrown away at some point in my youth. The GBC, however, is definitely in the attic of my parents house somewhere, gathering dust with probably a crappy Wario game in the slot getting all corrupted. Fun times! :D

I used to have the best Wario game for my GBC. I don't know if there's more than one but god did I love it. I can barely remember much about it other than it kinda-ish resembled the older SMWs xD

My oldest console is a Game-Boy. One of those old huge things xD My cousin gave it to me. It's in Lebanon though, haven't seen it in a while now.

I don't have the Gameboy, but I do have a Yellow coloured Gameboy Colour. Still have it, and it still works.

My oldest handheld was the gameboy pocket :3 Ah how I loved it so! My only qualm was that I couldn't play Link's Awakening DX on it!

Yeah this was my first too heh. For some reason there was a 'factory birth mark' (LOL) on the screen though :/

If you have a dirty mind, that statement sounded unbelievably awkward.

I had a GBC first. And I had an NES but I was so young when my dad used to play it hardcore that I barely remember it.

D: This is bringing back memories! I went from a GB to an N64 then to a GBC. So I basically followed the natural flow of things except 1/2 years late on each :p

Original gameboy was my first handheld, and I still have a SNES hooked up in my living room, to a CRT monitor I bought specifically to use with it. Retro consoles really benefit from being played on a CRT with pixel bleeding and motion artifacting, that and response time is far better. adds so much more charm.

I spent most of yesterday playing the original Castlevania, and it's still a brilliant game.
