The Division of the Light and Dark Worlds

Long ago in the land of Hyrule, legends spoke of a great power left behind by the Golden Goddesses following Hyrule's creation. Stories speaking of the Sacred Realm and the omnipotent "Golden Power" known as the Triforce that resided within it spread across Hyrule over the ages, causing a lust for the Triforce's power to grow and fester in the hearts and minds of Hyrule's people until there was nothing left in many of them but pure greed. The Triforce could not judge between good and evil and thus would merely grant the wishes of its holder. One day, a gateway to the Golden Land of the Triforce was accidentally discovered and opened by a band of thieves skilled in dark magic and their leader, a man named Ganondorf. It was a place like no other, a realm of midday golden skies rather than blue. And there, shining down upon this world from above, was the Triforce in all its glory. A long running battle then ensued between Ganondorf and his followers to the heart of the Sacred Realm in a race to reach the Triforce first. Ganondorf fought his way past and killed all of his followers that had accompanied him into the realm along the way so that he could claim it uncontested.

After the murders of his followers, Ganondorf stood over the Triforce and grasped it with blood-stained hands. A voice whispered to him, stating that if he had a strong desire in his heart to wish for it. In response, Ganondorf's laughter echoed across time and space and reached even Hyrule itself as he made a wish that he become the ruler of the world. Thus, one of Hyrule's greatest threats was born: the King of Evil, Ganon, who now had the strength of the Triforce at his command.

As a result of Ganondorf's wish for the domination of the world, the Triforce caused the Sacred Realm to radically change. It began to wither and die as it was transformed into a twisted copy of Hyrule that represented what Hyrule would look like if Ganondorf ruled it. Dark clouds now permanently blackened the skies. As a side-effect of this transformation, the Triforce's magic was used to cast a curse over the entire realm, one that would cause any without protection from it to transform into a shape that would reflect what is in his or her heart. The Golden Land was now the Dark World, a place of darkness and evil. Ganon was not satisfied merely with ruling the newly-transformed Dark World however, as he sought to return to Hyrule and conquer it as well. In time, evil power began to issue forth from the portal to the Golden Land, beckoning to men from the outside to seek out the Golden Power and have their wishes become reality through its magic.

As greedy men from Hyrule entered the Dark World hungry for the Golden Power, each of them was transformed into a monster reflecting the greed within them. As a result, Ganon's army of monsters grew to a large enough proportion that he was now capable of launching an invasion against Hyrule. Many plagues began to beset Hyrule as well, causing catastrophes for the people that would precede the coming storm. Finally, with his army now ready, Ganon launched the invasion against Hyrule, intending to fulfill his wish to be the ruler of both the Dark World and the Light World. Ganon's army swarmed from the Dark World and flooded into Hyrule, causing mass chaos and attacking Hyrule Castle. Meanwhile, the Seven Sages searched for a courageous individual that could take up a weapon that had been crafted to combat magic as powerful as that of the Triforce's, a sword that could banish evil itself, the Master Sword. However, no hero worthy of the blade could be found.

The Story Thus Far

The King has called forth the seven maidens, descendants of the Sages, to come up with a plan to seal Ganon within his own corrupted realm, the Dark World. They agreed to this plan, but soon realized that they'd need some ancient artifacts in order to create the seal. The King ordered his army, the Knights of Hyrule, to defend the castle, and the Maidens, at all costs. Meanwhile, he needed another group to go out and gather the artifacts required to seal the Dark World. The maidens explained that, while they could not find a hero to wield the Sword of Evil's Bane, they did find a number of individuals with their own special talents and potentials. The King orders the Maidens to summon them to the Kingdom at once, as he plans to form a team out of them to go out into the deadly world outside of the castle to gather the artifacts that could seal Ganon into the corrupted Sacred Realm once and for all.

Your Part in the Imprisoning War

You are one of the "special" individuals that the Maidens speak of. Somehow, you've managed to survive this long in a hazardous world of corruption and destruction. At the Maidens' request, you must pack your things and prepare for a difficult journey in which you might not survive. For the good of Hyrule, along with any of your own reasons, you do as instructed, and once you've packed, you're whisked right into the castle, as a result of the maidens' magic of teleportation. Along with other individuals of varied race and origin, you must work together to gather the artifacts required to restore peace to Hyrule.

Creating a Character

There are five playable races, each with their own traits, perks, and faults. If you feel like another race should be added, you must plead your idea to me in the OOC with valid reason, as well as supply a valid set of perks, weaknesses and traits that would make the race equal to the others (or as close as possible). Races won't be added for insignificant reasons like "I want to" or "It'd be cool". Be aware that the addition of races is unlikely, but if you still wish to attempt to add one to the roster, make your case as compelling as possible.

Note: Each race has its own sign-up sheet. The sheets don't differ from one another that much, but are pre-made specially for the individual races, so please use the proper sheet when making your selection. For individuality, you can add three points to the sections of your choosing. However, with these three points, your character's history must include a reason for these points (for example, someone who jogged/ran frequently might have more speed; Someone who reads often might have more knowledge; someone who practiced swordfighting might have more strength as well as more resistance if they were being hit as well; someone who pickpockets, lockpicks, or practices archery might have a higher dexterity.) that makes sense. Be creative, or, if you choose, leave them out. You may add multiple points in one section, but the history must reflect this, so be careful. Decreasing a point is optional but recommended.

Note: Hylians and Kokiri are now closed off. Other races will be limited to two.

HYLIAN

The most prominent race in all of Hyrule. They are a Humanoid race that are pretty much exactly like Humans, minus the pointy ears. It is said that their ears allow them to hear messages from the Gods, though this is only legend. They say that a rare few can transmit telepathic messages to other Hylians, but this continues as yet another rumor. Hylians work well in teams, are well rounded in terms of capability, and have the potential for magical ability. The Hylians of Castle Town were that main target of Ganon's forces, though within the town they remained safe. Some Hylians lived elsewhere, and have had to survive in their own situations.

KOKIRI

A race of forest spirits in the physical form of children. They each have their own fairy to help guide them and keep them safe. While they appear to be Hylian children, they can actually live for centuries (and have already), despite never aging past 13. They reside in the Kokiri Forest, under the watchful Great Deku Tree, who over the years has grown from a young sprout into a growing tree. However, an evil virus has infected the Great Deku Tree, just as it did the Tree's ancestor. This has weakened his protective seal over the forest, and the Kokiri has recently been living in turmoil. Deku Babas and Deku Scrubs among other dark creatures have been growing and invading the forest slowly. The Kokiri need a way to save their Great Deku Tree, but still wish to heed the Tree's words, that they will die if they leave the forest. Kokiri are vulnerable and not very strong, but their short stature and forest life give them a faster and more dexterous quality.

GERUDO

A race of desert-residing women with tan skin, red hair, and golden eyes. They are a race of only women, known to generally despise the Hylians' way of life. Despite this, though, the Gerudo usually mate with male Hylians to continue their heritage. Only one male is born every hundred years, and he is considered their king. They are generally good in combat, among other skills, and excel in stealth and thievery. They worship the Goddess of the Sand, their own religious belief. Today, they are a slowly diminishing race, as conflict between the Hylians and the Gerudo have nearly severed contact between the desert and the castle.

GORON

A humanoid, rock-eating race that dwell in the mountains. Despite their hulking appearance, Gorons are a relatively peaceful species. Gorons are physically imposing, as the height and sheer size of the average Goron are almost double that of a Hylian. They possess enough physical strength to shatter large boulders and carve out tunnels using only their fists, without suffering any significant fatigue afterwards. They are presumably silicon-based due to a strict diet of rocks and, possibly as a result, they develop rocky growths on their backs as they age. Their apparent immunity to drowning would also stem from this, as the silicate minerals and rocks are extremely common and contain oxygen. However, due to their enormous density, they are unable to float or swim. Gorons are shown to be resistant towards fire to the point where shallow pools of lava do not harm them. They can curl up into a fetal position and roll at faster speeds, though when rolling they can hardly turn, meaning it is only really useful in a straight or slow-turning path, due to the difficulty of turning. Gorons are an all-male race who live in a "brotherly" friendly culture. They seem to even include Hylian individuals as their "brothers" as well. They reside on Death Mountain, eating rocks and enjoying themselves. Or rather, they used to. Now, they have turned their mountain into a fortress, defending against the dark army of Ganon. Others are invited and welcomed, even offered safety within the mountain. The Gorons turn materials on Death Mountain into bombs, and in some cases, metal weaponry.

ZORA

Zoras are aquatic, blue-skinned humanoid creatures that exist in Hyrule. They are incredibly skilled natural swimmers. Most of them wear no clothes, but certain members of their species do wear clothing. They are generally covered in silver scales, which give them a pale blue sheen from a distance, and have dark blue spots on their extremities. Where humans sometimes have long hair, average Zoras have rear-hanging caudal extensions of their heads shaped like the tails of dolphins, perhaps as a cephalic form of dorsal fin. Zoras have two large ulnar fins located distally on their forearms, and some have smaller fins at their ankles. They are sometimes depicted as having webbed feet and hands. They lack ears in the traditional sense, but do have pronounced noses. Zoras are also known to have green eyes. Zora government is monarchical, previously ruled by King Zora XVII, the sole ruler of the Zoras. However, he perished at the hands of Ganon's army, leaving the Zora community without hope. A few brave Zoras have offered their service to Hyrule Castle, joining the army of the Knights of Hyrule. A select few with great ability or potential (most of which did not join the Knights) have been watched carefully by the sages.

Rules for this Roleplay

All rules that apply to PokeCommunity and the Roleplay corner always apply. All rules listed here apply to this Roleplay specifically. Be wary of them, as any problems caused could involve punishment by my own hand, or even worse, a moderator.
  1. The Rating is M for Mature. Be wary of this fact.
  2. Romance is welcome, sexually explicit material is not. Keep it appropriate.
  3. Violence is going to be heavy in this RP. However, don't go into excessive detail to the point that a moderator must step in.
  4. Any rules broken may result in booting from the RP, and if bad enough can involve a moderator.
  5. Surivival is the theme for this RP. Be sure that your character isn't unreasonably able to survive. Characters must eat and/or drink to stay alive. Potions and Fairies aren't all that common, so don't consider battles something fun and enjoyable; consider them another chance for your character to die.
  6. Death can and will happen throughout the RP, dependent on characters' actions in certain scenarios. If your character dies, you may create a new one to take his/her place. If you do or do not wish to make another character, please say so in the OOC, as your reserved spot will be dropped within a week if you do not specify.
  7. Remember to take your fellow players into consideration. Bunnying is only allowed if permission from the character's player is given.
  8. The code to prove you read can be either Farore, Nayru, or Din. Pick your favorite!
  9. This RP has a linear story, but plays like a sandbox. This means you can have your character follow the plot, or do their own thing. Be aware, though, that straying from the path of destiny will lead you to many deadly results.
  10. Please have fun. When it all comes down to it, serious or no, this is a roleplay. It was created for fun, and it is played for fun.
  11. Try to treat your fellow players with respect. We can all be friends here! If you're here, you probably like Zelda one way or another, so you already have something in common!

Character List

All characters in this RP. Characters who are killed or missing in action will be listed in their respective section with strikeout. Missing characters (either lost by choice, by the result of an event, or because the player is leaving the RP but may come back) have the opportunity to come back. All that's required is to explain the events that led the character back to the group. Dead characters are just that, dead. There is no returning from death.

Bold characters are accepted.
Italicized characters are reserved.
Strikeout characters are missing.
Strikeout+Italicized characters are dead.

The Legend of Zelda: The Imprisoning War SU

Name: Eliza Guru
Nickname: Toph
Age: 16
Sex: Female
Race: Hylian

Strength: 5 (+0)
Resistance: 4 (+0)
Dexterity: 6 (+1)
Speed: 4 (+1)
Knowledge: 6 (+1)

Personal Skill(s): Slightly agile, able to sometimes avoid physical conflict due to hr gymnastics classes.
Personal Fault(s): Cannot handle a sword and leaves killing a person a last resort.

Skill: Can brew up remedies for simple illnesses and treat wounds of other people if she has the correct aparatus. She has a hidden healing ability
Fighting Style: Prefers not to do any physical attacks or get involved with the fighting at all, but she can often outwit a target.

Appearance: Toph is short with blonde hair, and bright green eyes, and an innocent smile. Her hair goes down to her neck, and she wears a pink hairband so it doesn't go in her eyes. She wears the traditional green kimono with black outlining to show that she isn't too weak. Her shoes are flat black shoes that fit with ease.
Spoiler:

Personality: Toph is a very shy character, and will only present her true emotions to those she trusts completely. If she does however get along with someone she can be quite open with them.

Toph is a gentle character, who tries best to get along with everyone, even those who have done bad things. She doesn't take sides in petty arguments, but has strong opinions over large scale ones. She isn't frightened to tell people the truth when she feels upset or hurt, otherwise she would keep her thoughts to herself, as her way of thinking is 'if she is happy, let everyone else be happy, if not let them feel the same if anything to say.' Sometimes she views herself selfish for thinking like this, and often that comes back to bite as she will regret saying something or doing something, and get over emotional about such things. She cannot stand blood and pain, which is why she is a very good healer, and if she does see someone in pain, she will help them, no matter how much bad they have done (unless that person is Ganadorf or a monster, or just monsters since Ganandorf is a monster.)

Toph likes seafood and nuts, and loves her kimono. She never really wears anything different, so she often considers herself bland. Her love for seafood has accidentally slipped into her remedies now and then, as she often forgets how not everyone likes the stuff. She doesn't hate any personality, even if someones selfish, arrogant and stuck up.

Eliza doesn't like anything too sticky, which sometimes troubles her when making medicine with honey in it. She hates bees and wasps too, and walking barefoot.

History: Eliza grew up in Castle Town, and her mother owned a herbal shop that made potions and such for travelers that passed and the sick in the town, and she was well known for it. The family made a fair amount of money, that luxuries were affordable, as well as food and water on the table. Toph never felt spoiled, or badly done to either, which is where her care-free attitude comes from. From a young age, Eliza had enrolled in gymnastics, although she hated going as it meant being around other people. She never learned to get along with others from this experience, but did great and learned a lot, but there was always someone better than her. Soon she was onto higher level stuff, and was avoiding attacks that might have been thrown at her, but didn't get the hang of this very well. One day however, an event happened that caused her to become somewhat of a recluse, as she was elected to represent her gym class that year. She was majorly disapointed when se discovered she had come last, and had brought shame to everyone there. The people scoffed at her clumsiness as they passed her. She tucked herself inside the shop for a while.

She soon began to help her mother at the Apothecary at just 9 years old, and by 12, she had memorized all the herbs and medicine recipes, and had already learned a bit about surgery from her grandfather, who was previously a war veteran who specialized in treating the sick. Her abilities in herbal remedies drastically increased over time, that soon she was a very well known healer for illnesses. Her mother passed away when Toph was 15, by that time she had learned everything her mother knew, and her grandmother took over the shop. She was devastated over her mother's death, but remained strong, and although the memory always resided, she prevailed from showing much emotion towards to subject. Toph finished school with good grades, and to celebrate her achievements her Grandmother presented her with a long strip of bandages, which she soon learned they had belonged to her Grandmother all her life. It was a scruffy old thing, but it had so much sentimental value to the family. She had pretty much learned the basics when a letter of invitation came to her door from the postman to the royal palace. She wasn't over excited, and was more nervous, and shy but with some major encouragement her Grandparents edged her on to go until the day she arrived at the palace and was presented with an extraordinary task.

One big issue I've noticed right off the bat, Crimson: Magic.

Yes, Hylains have magic potential, but they can't normally perform magic on their own (The maidens are an exception because they are descendants of the sages). Any magic to be used in this RP by players will be through the use of an item.

Additionally, you are lacking a bit in amount of writing, mainly for the appearance section.

Lastly, I wouldn't recommend adding all three points to one section. That would be an incredibly difficult amount of added skill that seems very unlikely.

Then can I say she possesses a magical bandage of sorts that allows her to heal, and remove her capability to cast spells? The bandage could be used almost like a whip or a lasso or just an ordinary bandage. I edited my SU with the details, sorry about that though I got caught up with my magical daydreams hehe.

'fraid not. Though she can keep regular bandages on her, any items that are going to be of any use in this RP are almost without a doubt going to be found/provided IC.

Remember, this is an RP about survival. Hopelessness might actually be part of the theming here, as the general feel of the RP is one of fighting unwinnable odds.

In short, and this goes for everyone, The weaker your character is or the more difficult of a time they're going to have, the more likely they will be accepted. They are here because they don't show great power or skill, but because they show the potential to one day gain that power or skill.

Right, so if I just let her have extra ordinary magical abilities which can't be harnessed, I can make her find something that will unleash that power later in the story, am I right?

Close. When I say she has potential to use magic, I mean that it currently lies dormant in her. Not even she knows of it. The maidens are the only ones who can see this potential.

At the beginning, characters may have to hold onto their personality quirks to be unique, since these kinds of skills and abilities aren't readily available yet.

I understand, but she can still be a good healer, considering she can't fight, I guess being an excellent healer makes up for it.

Edited my SU with no mention of magic just simple brewing and herbal remedies and such.

Right, now you've got it! You could go as far as saying she was/is a nurse of sorts, meaning she can tend to simple injuries and heal people in the same means that we do in our world (without technology).

Just know that she can't make potions with her herbalism, as those will be pretty rare in the RP.

If they did, it would certainly be the least of their worries.

Giving your sign-up a full look-through, I think there are a few more things before I can accept it (You're getting there, though!).

First, your sections are still relatively short. The appearance doesn't give me a whole lot to imagine, the personality could probably be explained more, and the History is fine, but doesn't really prove anything for the stat points added. The knowledge of herbalism and medicine should probably only count as one, maaaaybe two points at most. And again, it's never a good idea to dump all of them into one section. You might even be better off without using them all!

Also, how is she swift and agile? How does she confuse enemies? Where did she learn to do these things? It doesn't seem to show up anywhere in the sheet.

Deal with these, and you'll be good to go.

Could I reserve a spot for a Zora? (I'll use this post as a placeholder)

Spoiler:
Name: 'Aukai
Nickname: N/A
Age: 27
Sex: Male
Race: Zora

Strength: 5 (+0)
Resistance: 4 (+1)
Dexterity: 8 (+0)
Speed: 4 (+1)
Knowledge: 4 (+1)

Personal Skill(s): Amphibious Reconnaissance, Navigation, Scouting, and Fishing.
Personal Fault(s): Anything pertaining to non-amphibious areas (in other words no water = no skills), and he has an issue with authority.

Skill: Able to navigate the waters of Hyrule as if they were his personal pond.
Fighting Style: Primarily hand to hand (and fin to hand), but when he has his vest on he also use his knife to fight. When wielding the knife he holds it underhanded.

Appearance: At first look ‘Aukai looks like a normal Zora. He’s tall, 6’ 6” to be precise, and fairly lean weighing in at 140 pounds. Even though he is light weight his line of work has refined his body in to one of muscle. The fins on his arm are very aqua dynamic and look similar to a mako shark’s fins. In addition to their looks his fins have been strengthened to withstand most non-metal weapons, which allow him to use his fins for offense. His head has the typical dorsal tail, but two fin-like appendages frame his face on either side, thus resembling hair.

The most unusual thing about ‘Aukai is that he wears clothes. During his excommunication from his tribe he was forced to adopt Hylian culture, which including wearing clothes. This ended up become useful for him as it allowed him to bring various survival tools on his excursions around Hyrule. Typically he wears a small multi-pocket vest (he never keeps it buttoned) that can be taken off with ease and a pair of pants that have been modified to retain his aqua-dynamics while swimming. Both his vest and pants are a dark blue that accentuates water at night, which also makes it easier for him to remain undetected while swimming. Finally, he keeps a multi-purpose knife on his person while wearing the vest. It can be used for various things, such as cleaning fish and close range combat.

Personality: (Describe his/her personality as best as you can)

History: (Describe his/her past up until the beginning of the RP)

Password: Nayru, 'cause her symbol is the same as the Zora's Sapphire.

I'll be keeping an eye on this. I'll start scraping up ideas for a character sheet, likely for a gerudo character. I think there's a lot of potential there.

LoZ roleplay? Sounds fun! I would like to make a race request though. Could you add the Sheikah as a playable race? They would add an interesting stealth/ninja-like dynamic to the thread. Also, you might want to add a straight up human race to play as, because basically only the royal family and a small group of others are hylians. This looks great though!

While the Sheikah would make it more diverse, they're not only a near-extinct race (if not already extinct at this point) they might be a little too overpowered for this RP. Besides, the Gerudo are already pretty close to that Rogue-like standard.

Also, Hylians are very common, so a regular Human race is almost unnecessary. The Hylians are definitely not specific to the Royal family. They're an entire race of people! Besides, Humans in Zelda-canon are literally Hylians without pointy ears and magic ability. They don't differ enough to be their own race for this RP.

Nonetheless, I'll give you a reserve as well.

Thanks for the reserve! So one quick question, if the Hylians are more populace in this RP, how about the Knights of Hyrule? In most of the games Link is the last one but..

Knights of Hyrule are already active in the war, and thus aren't directly a part of the main plot for the rp.

Reserve me a spot, also which Hyrule is this set in. It is kind of important for my characters history, if it's a completely new land then that is okay aswell. Also my character does have pointy ears it is just they are covered by his hair. When you look up "anime elves" on the internet you will see how many artists are out their that waste their talent.

Name: Ace Skylit
Nickname: Genesis
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Race: Hylian

Strength: 6 (+1)
Resistance: 5 (+1)
Dexterity: 6 (+0)
Speed: 5 (+1)
Knowledge: 6 (+0)

Personal Skill(s): Ever since Ace was a young child his family had trained him to survive in the elements (the wild),
Personal Fault(s): Ace has very poor money skills and does not like having to deal with money in general. Ace dislikes cold weather due to living in a warm climate most of his life.

Skill: Ace always makes sure to know his surroundings and if they could pose a threat to him or his friends.
Fighting Style: Ace fights ferociously always trying to land a hit or break the opponents block, this can prove to be dangerous for him because if the opponent is as skilled as he is then they will either move faster or hit stronger. Ace uses a Long Sword.

Appearance: Ace has snow white hair that covers his pointy ears, and he has brown eyes with a reddish tint. He wears a green shirt and baggy black shorts, over the top of these clothes he has half a chest plate that is attached by a leather strap, he also dons shin pads and elbow pads along with an intriguing pair of finger less gloves.
Spoiler:

Personality: I think doing the history first will give me a better feel for what my characters personality is.

History: Ace grew up on a farm a few hours out of Castle Town, his parents owned the farm and left often to sell their goods. Sometimes money would be tight so food was a problem, Ace's father decided to teach him how to hunt for food, this proved to be very helpful for his family because food was never a problem and the woods were always teaming with life so killing a deer or two wouldn't hurt the environment. At the age of 14 Ace was already an expert hunter and could survive for days alone in the elements with only his wits. At the age of 16 Ace left the farm to look for a living, he ended up in Castle Town where he met a Goron who was looking for job hunters. After a minute or two of looking down Ace the Goron said "I'll give you a go, I need you to go buy us some food, 'ere is the list." throwing a shopping list and bag of rupees at Ace. After running around Castle Town looking as to where he could buy these certain foods, he found a general store. As Ace came panting up to the front of the store he handed the list and the money he was given. The shop keeper ran around the shop looking for the items that were listed Ace was left just standing there awkwardly looking at the room it had interesting designs on the tarp and the place was filled with things someone might need in a rush. Ace getting tired of standing decided to sit in a chair not too far from him, as he sat down the shop keeper cried “There you go darling!” Ace annoyed by this walked up to the counter and plucked the basket from her hands before running out of the store. After an hour of trying to find his way back he found the Inn and handed the goods to the Goron who threw another bag of rupees at him this time harder than the rest. After a year or so working for the Goron Ace decided to find other work in Castle Town, he had heard of a group of travellers who needed protection getting to a far off city. Ace went looking for these merchants who he swore were at the front of the Town a few days ago. After running around for 30 minutes he found the merchants in the centre of town he walked up to them offering his assistance for their long journey. The merchants desperate immediately agreed to his offer and paid him half of what he would earn the other half at the end of the trip. Ace decided to go spend this money a new sword but with this bad money skills ended up spending double on the sword than what he would have. After a day or two Ace was given the heads up that it was time to leave. Still working on it

Name: Devon Kelmore
Nickname: Longshanks
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Race: Hylian

Strength: 5 (+0)
Resistance: 4 (+1)
Dexterity: 6 (+1)
Speed: 4 (+1)
Knowledge: 6 (-1)

Personal Skills: Longshanks is a decent marksman thanks to both his early upbringing and the fact that one of his main activities for the past few years has been hunting. He's also skilled with his sword in situations it's actually suited to, which is really only dueling, fighting regular moblins and stabbing something easy to hit. He is fairly knowledgeable in herbalism but only really as far as which ones are edible and/or good for cooking, he has no skill in mixing them or making medicine from them aside from maybe a salve that would ease pain slightly.

Since he's never had any sort of shield for defending himself Longshanks' only means of avoiding damage when he's forced into a fight is not getting hit at all, leading to both quick reflexes from practice, as well as a high pain tolerance from the times he's failed. He is also skilled at many of the things that must be done when one lives in the wilderness, such as navigating and setting traps. His geographical knowledge of places he's been too is impressive, he's great at making mental maps, but he hasn't seen much of real maps and thus is quite ignorant of places he hasn't seen himself or been told about.

Longshanks doesn't know much about how to fit in around regular Hylians anymore, or really much of anything besides the skills he's had to use and a few other things. As a result of having nobody else to rely on he's very analytic, constantly looking at things and thinking of how to react to different possible actions of theirs, he manages not to show in his face that he's watching.

Personal Faults: Because of all the time he's spent alone Longshanks can seem quite harsh when speaking, he's not really anti social it's just a bit of a loner. Even though he's pretty intelligent he's not the best at teamwork, in such a situation he's likely to just give his opinion and stay in the background if there's an authority figure or step up if he doesn't consider anyone around competent for the job. Partly in rebellion towards his family and partly because of all his failings Devon doesn't have much pride, his only self confidence is that he's a good person and he can take care of himself.

The Kelmore family renounced magic itself at some point after his grandfather was born but before he himself was, so he has a powerful distaste of it and is unaware of it's involvement in his family's history. This distaste in and of itself will inhibit his magical potential until he gets over it, because as anyone knowledgeable about magic will tell you, a person's psyche is quit important to how it works. His distaste of magic basically puts barriers for it in his mind. And his skill with a bow is so far limited to generally still creatures.

Longshanks' only tool with any sort of defensive strength is his broadsword and its basket guard, so he can't block anything bigger than a sword or a spear. His bow is a greatbow and thus, while powerful and accurate, useless in enclosed spaces. Because his bow was made specifically for him and is not an heirloom, it was not made to accommodate enchantments or enchanted gems in the first place. It would take a very skilled magicsmith of some kind to ever make it anything special.

Skill: One of the things Devon's family is known for is their excellent eyes, they all have eyesight that's as good as a Hylian's eyes can physically be. Once every few generations in the Kelmore family a child is born with an amazing talent for seeing and exploiting weaknesses both physically, and psychologically. One of the things that made the family famous was it's extraordinary duelists and fencers who had this talent, and Devon just so happens to have it.

Fighting Style: Devon prefers to take targets out from a distance if he can, using his skills and his eyes to hit vital points before his enemy is even a threat. If caught unawares or unable to kill his target with arrows he is a very defensive melee combatant. He dodges and parries(if what he's being attacked with is something his sword can parry) until he sees an opening and disarms his opponent to leave them defenseless, or tries to take them out in one thrust or slash. If his opponent is not open enough for him to strike he tries to knock them off balance somehow, not afraid to fight in dishonorable ways if it means survival.

Appearance: Devon didn't get the title "Longshanks" for nothing. He is tall and lanky, standing at 6'1 with exceedingly long arms and legs (his legs are 3'4 of his height counting the feet, making them almost a foot longer than his top half, and his hands almost go down to his knees). He has fair skin like most Hylians that has only been slightly tinted by all the time outdoors, and his hair is dark blond (his parents said he had 'golden locks' but he always thought that sounded pretentious) and his eyes are as deep green as the emerald that was his birthstone and was meant to be the pommel of his sword. He has an angular and handsome face like most of the men in his family. Even after all the time away from most people Devon still moves very gracefully and looks princely, even with the dull clothing and the fact that his family isn't royal, just aristocratic.

The nice clothes Devon left home with were damaged beyond all hope of being worn a long time ago and he knew if he asked someone in town to fix them his family would surely hear of it. He is dressed in a self-made sleeveless red leather jerkin over a plain cotton shirt a traveler gave him a while back, black cloth pants and heavy brown leather boots. The one article of clothing he's managed to save from when he left is his belt, he wears a very ornate sword belt on his waist which of course holds Hrimnir. On his back is a special blue quiver of unknown origin that is big enough to hold 30 large arrows and his bow even while it is strung.

Spoiler:
Devon's sword is named Hrimnir (Hurrim-near) and is a very graceful looking, yet lethal weapon. It has a long, straight, and thin blade made from high quality metal and with a special folding technique that allows it to be as durable with maintenance as a much thicker blade even though it's thin. (The blade is exactly like the one on this sword: ) (The guard and hilt look just like this: But the metal of the guard is gold and there is an emerald for a pommel.

Devon's bow has no name, but it's appearance is unique enough. It is a large composite bow that when unstrung looks like a fairly plain hunk of wood and metal, but when strung it almost transforms. The pressure of the string reveals small feather-like shapes and the bow is obviously modeled after an Eagle, with the sides being the spread wings and riser being it's head. The Eagle's face is carved into either side of the grip with the rest being it's open beak, giving the appearance of the Eagle holding nocked arrows before they are fired. When Devon first left home he had thirty arrows made specially for the bow that were so durable each could be reused indefinitely if taken care of, he's tried to be careful and make them last but now he only has 12 of them left, along with 18 plain wooden arrows with stone heads to fill the rest of his quiver.

Personality: Devon "Longshanks" Kelmore is case of nature over nurture. The only similarities between his personality and those of his family are his analytic nature and, to an extent, his pride. He is intelligent and very observant of his surroundings, he was even before he left home, sometimes much to the chagrin of his family. If Devon doesn't know about or understand something, he asks nicely, then if he feels it's his business and is unsatisfied with the answer he demands, pokes, prods, and digs until he is satisfied with his knowledge on the matter. He ultimately has a kind heart and will never watch something wrong happen without trying to stop it, but is very sharp-tongued when he actually decides to insult someone. One part of Devon's upbringing that he kept was chivalry, he always tries to be polite towards girls and women, unless they do something that marks them as not ladies in his eyes.

Devon's not judgmental of other people but is convinced that he should always be the best he can. He doesn't think he's better than other people as a rule, but he is convinced he's competent at most things and prideful of his skills. He doesn't care about insults directed at himself, but does not tolerate mistreatment of women or insulting/threatening someone he considers a friend. His determination towards his morals is both a strength and a weakness, when he fights he almost never stops unless there's no point or it's a matter of honor and he's lost fairly, or he's come to a conclusion he agrees with. Devon doesn't make friends easily, but someone he considers a friend is his friend for life. His sense of humor is very silly and sarcastic as long as the jokes aren't insulting towards women. Very few things can actually make him angry, but when he is his anger is as intense as if he hated whomever it was focused on.

History: The man now known as Longshanks was born Devon Kelmore, the only heir to a wealthy and historied aristocratic family of Hyrule. Devon stood out right away as strange because every generation of the family before him had many children in it, he was the first only child and his mother couldn't seem to get pregnant again. What's more, most of Kelmore blood had black or brown hair, some even had red hair, but none before him had anywhere near such golden hair, or green eyes, especially eyes as deep as his. But of course as the family's heir Devon's oddities were quickly forgiven (on the surface) and he was cherished by his family. When he was 7 Devon's father began to teach him Archery, Fencing, and Dueling. He excelled at all three, especially dueling and it wasn't long before the family decided to announce his presence to the rest of the aristocracy and begin grooming him for his future as head of the family.

The boy didn't seem all that suited for his appointed task, he never wanted to attend lessons on society or how upper class society lived and should act. In fact, they were the only subjects which his thirst for knowledge wasn't harshly unrelenting. But none of the other women in the family who were still around had children or were pregnant, and his father was determined for him to take his place regardless. After all the boy was excellent at arguing, he could make grown men feel like useless amoral idiots and he had the gift, surely that implied the goddesses had chosen him. Devon's discontent with his future grew and grew, until he began to actively break rules regardless of the threatened consequences.

Devon's only interests the family approved of were in swordplay and archery, but whenever he asked why the family's most coveted possession Hrimnir was just being used as a decoration, all he was told was that Hrimnir's original smith coveted magic before he made it, and magic was a vile and alien thing, but the weapon itself was otherwise perfect and couldn't just be discarded. Whenever magic was brought up by any member of the family it was with great disdain, and eventually Devon began to believe it all. Little did the boy know that in his great grandfather's days and earlier, their family greatly revered magic and did whatever they could to acquire magic items. At some point one of the family's heads was a talented smith who decided they didn't need magic to be prosperous, so he cut an emerald he considered the most beautiful gem in the world, yet otherwise plain. Once the gem was ready he forged a beautiful sword that he proclaimed carried the family's "indomitable will" and thus was "indestructible" with a socket in the bottom of the hilt where the emerald fit perfectly to become the pommel.

When Devon was 10 he began to sneak out of the manor at night and ask Hyrule's oldest and most trusted chronicler about his families history, the old man appreciated genuine curiosity and was happy to oblige. The chronicler knew practically every thing there was to know about even the secretive Kelmore family, short of Hrimnir's origin story since it was passed down from family head to family head, and Devon wasn't old enough to be told yet. The more Devon learned about his family the more he realized they had been declining, not necessarily in success or fame, but in honor, morality, and intelligence. With the knowledge of his family's decline Devon grew evermore resentful of every prideful statement and boast from his family, especially his father, and before long he outright despised what his family had become.

The final straw came one night when Devon was sneaking out to meet the chronicler again and he heard strange noises in one of the manor's guest rooms and when he peeped through the keyhole he saw his father doing...unspeakable things with one of his maternal aunts. Somehow his father heard his gasp over the noises he and his partner were making, opened the door and grabbed hold of his arm before he could run away. His father explained that their family didn't need to follow the same rules as everyone else so it was fine, and that since the family had no other children he would be married to one of his older cousins eventually. After all, they had to keep their blood pure and the king didn't want to arrange a marriage for his daughter, especially among all the other troubles.

The young boy was so disgusted by what his father had done and told him that he couldn't even look at his relatives as his family anymore, so he merely waited for his opportunity. Devon waited until his thirteenth birthday, when his father planned to announce who he would be married to in adulthood and everyone was busy preparing. They made it all too easy by wanting to surprise him and trying to keep the preparations away from him. He went into his room and took his special bow he was still too small to use, before making his way to the Kelmore treasury and swiping Hrimnir. With the only two objects that mattered to him in tow, and his favorite clothes on his back, Devon left his family and home behind.

Devon's first few months in the wilderness right outside Castle Town didn't go well, he almost constantly had to steal bits of food from Castle Town because his survival skills were still so shoddy. This continued until he learned to make decent traps, and even then he still needed help now and then until he was big enough to use his new bow properly at age 15. After he came unto his own Devon lived a fairly uneventful life for the next few years, occasionally going into one or another of Castle Town's pubs and passing himself off as an adult thanks to how tall he was and how fit he was from his lifestyle. Not much happened until a few months ago. There were always moblins to find even in the areas right outside of Castle Town, the only reason it was even safe enough for Devon to be out there at all was because it was further in than the Hyrule army's valiant defense. But more and more began to show up. Not soon afterwards some of the trees grew darker and more menacing, and some of the wildlife became much stronger and more violent. It soon got to the point where Devon's only means of survival was a week or so of food he had stocked up, none of the creatures left in the forest were even weak enough for him to fight alone. Maybe he could handle a moblin but they traveled in groups.

It was obvious something was wrong, but Devin didn't have the luxury of finding out, more and more creatures made it past Hyrule's knights and before long monsters and the trees themselves made it impossible to leave the forest on his own, if only he had realized in time to leave. Devon knew how to handle animals and most Moblins, so he was alright until the day whatever force unified them decided it had had enough of one person defying it in that forest. The moblins actively hunted Devon down until they had him cornered, every time he tried to back up the trees on the edge of the forest seemed to swing their limbs at him angrily, and there were too many Moblins to fight. Devon took down one or two of his aggressors and acquired quite a few bruises from fists and sticks, as well as cuts from almost lethal attacks with real weapons, before a root lifted right behind him during a dodge and he fell backwards. Just before the Moblin Captain (its as silly as it sounds) could finish him off there was some sort of bright light and Devon was unwittingly whisked towards his destiny. Apparently the Maidens had been acutely aware of him the whole time was gone, and the time was right.

Other: Feel free to give any critiques you deem necessary, and if I'm accepted and either of the weapons feel too special (although they have no power right now besides what a weapons normally does) just decide if maybe something doesn't make it with Devon when the maidens summon him and maybe give him a chance to reacquire whatever gets left behind later in the story :D
