The Badr Moon Colonies

Landingplatform_by_ATArts.jpg
Introduction

Welcome to Colony A of the Badr Colonies, Tera Nova. Relative earth time is 20:32. Local temperature is... below average. We remind you not to turn on any electronic devices until the captain has instructed it is safe to do so. Please make sure you have retrieved all of your personal belongings from your shuttle. The spaceline will not be held responsible for any lost or damaged goods left in the spacecraft. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave behind Pokemon, children or spouses. Also refrain from releasing your Pokemon from their Pokeballs until you have exited the spaceport, for health and safety reasons.

If you are a newcomer, please head to the new arrivals counter on Floor 2, where you will be taken on a small informative tour for your safety and information. If you are a resident or Badr national, please head to the returning visitors counter on Floor 3. V.I.P. passengers and first class flyers will be escorted to the V.I.P. counter to get their passports checked and to their moon rover. We hope you have enjoyed your flight with Lunar spacelines and wish you a pleasant stay in Tera Nova.

A short History

A few decades ago, it would have been deemed impossible to support long-term life outside of our planet earth. Advancements in human and Pokemon skills and technology have now made this dream true. 50 years ago, as the notorious organization dubbed "Team Galactic" crumbled in Sinnoh, a small team of scientists and explorers, led by a high-ranking official who then became the first leader of the Badr Colonies, set off in a space shuttle to the moon to escape legal prosecution in Sinnoh. The abundance of evolutionary stones and precious materials such as stardust and minerals quickly began making a large profit for the small group, who began building themselves a permanent settlement. Fast-forward many years later, The Badr colonies now have a government council to take care of political and economical issues, and consider themselves to be a mostly neutral nation, mostly due to the difficulty of transport.

[01:57] F: Anyone still on?

[01:58] M: No-one else but me. Got stuck with Grimer night duty again.

[01: 58] F:Well it's not really 'night' duty per se... I mean, nighttime does last 2 weeks on here. Anyway, what even is your job?

[01: 58] M: Basically, I need to hydrate them every half hour, or they risk drying up and turning into Koffings. And you know how bad it was last time it happened.

[01:58] F: Oh dear, don't remind me about that day! Worst part is, we can't even open the windows!

[01:58] M: Aside from that, nothing much is happening. The little guys keep trying to eat my shoes.

[01:58] F: Yeah, we wouldn't want the accident that happened to Bill last month to repeat itself...

[01:59] M: So how was work today? And why are you still here?

[01:59] F: Oh, they made me the newcomers' tour guide for today. And I'm just here working on the new system. Plus, I couldn't sleep. Guess I'm still used to earth's times.

[02:00] M: Don't worry, you'll get over it.
[02:00] M: Oh, it's 2 AM already! Guess I need to hydrate the little buggers again. I'll be back in a bit!

[02:00] F: Sure!

The Badr Colonies: A guide to space life

This guide will go through the key locations and information you should know about in order for you to live in space. Whether you may be a visitor, diplomat, or looking for a chance to become a citizen of Badr, we hope this guide will assist you in helping you with your stay.

8THWqS0.jpg

There are many colonies which are part of Badr. However, only Tera Nova is currently opened to the public. Above is a map of the city and its surroundings. The areas marked in red are research centers and government facilities. These are operated by the government or scientific research agencies, and are the ones usually responsible for expeditions and research done on the moon. Only small sections of the centers are open to the public, for safety reasons. There are three in total: north, east and south.

The area in the center, marked in blue, shows all of the stores, agricultural areas and farms in Tera Nova. This is the place to go if you are looking to purchase souvenirs, Pokemon goods, or evolutionary stones. Further down in the south-east of the city, you will also find the Pokemon Stadium, where trainers can battle for fun and special zero-gravity tournaments often take place. In the center, marked in white, is where the transport station is located. Here you will find transport to earth, moon rovers, and space suits.

In the north of the city, marked in green, are the settlement areas. Houses and hotels are provided free of charge to residents and visitors.

All land outside of these areas is barren and mostly filled with lunar wildlife and Pokemon. Emergency 'stations' containing spare space suits, oxygen tanks and a distress signal are scattered all across the land for your safety. However, please note that it is unadvised to venture into the wild for more than an hour at a time, and always remember to inform others of where you are going before setting off.

Note: Do NOT travel into the dark side of the moon. It is rumored the legendary Pokemon Darkrai roams it.

If you are an earth resident from a region wishing to visit or settle in Tera Nova, here is all the information you should provide:

Name:
Region/Nationality:
Passport ID:
Trainer Class/Profession:
Pokemon Team:

With this information, and a strong team of Pokemon by your side, you will find yourself comfortable with life in space in no time. Just remember not to open the windows.

Economy

As would be expected, the Badr Colonies' main source of income are mining and tourism, with the main exports being evolutionary stones such as Sun Stones, Moon Stones, Dawn/Dusk Stones, and so on. With those being quite rare, even on the moon (as not all stones are of the correct kind, resulting in cases of "fool's stone") the mining industry generates a good amount of revenue, most of which is used to buy either un-farmable food or fund the expansion of the colonies and scientific facilities.

Political Relations

Being a relatively new region, Badr has a mostly neutral relationship with most nations except for Sinnoh, whose government treats Badr nationals as accomplices to Charon the team of criminals that fled the region to avoid capture.

sinnoh6.png
Sinnoh: In conflict. Sinnoh's government still demands Charon and the former team Galactic members to be returned and put on trial, and refuses to trade with Badr.

leaf.png
Dúlra: Neutral. Though they aren't particularly in any conflict, Dúlra disapproves of Badr's mining and testing on the moon as it allegedly disturbs the "balance". Clearly a region with no interest for scientific research.

favicon.ico
Auria: Friendly. Badr imports most of their drinking water and non-farmed goods from Auria.

Tree-house-icon.png
Oceia: Friendly. Oceia's wide range of exotic Pokemon species is a great research topic for Badr naturalists.

f_icon.png
Ceriah: Allied. Despite the strange social-justice-warrior attitude of Ceriah, they are great partners in research due to their highly developed technology and extensive knowledge of Pokemon.

[10:14] G: Mark? You still in the office?

[10:14] M: Yeah, anything wrong?

[10:14] G: Professor Charon said he wanted to speak to you when you had the time.

[10:14] M: Well, tell him I can't come right now. I have a class to teach in 15 minutes over in the north building.

[10:14] G: Oh, really?

[10:15] M: Yeah, they brought in the new batch of students for this semester. At this rate, we're going to need a bigger building!

[10:15] G: Well, good luck with that.

[10:16] M: Thanks. What do you think the boss even wants me for?

[10:16] G: Well, you were the last person to ever contact Dr. Patricia after the eastern building incident...

[10:18] M: ...Yeah. I'll, eh, get back to him when I'm done, then. Thanks.

[10:18] G: Alright, then.

Name: Emil Broca
Region/Nationality: Kanto
Passport ID: none
Trainer Class/Profession: none
Pokemon Team: Magnemite, sort of

Let's start with the fact that Emil is eight years old. Not old enough to be off on his own at all. Not registered for international travel. Not supposed to have Pokémon. But this little kid and his buddy Magnemite have managed to get all the way to the Badr Colonies by stowing away on a shuttle from Kanto.

Emil's moms are employees of the shuttle station in Kanto. They always brought him to the station to attend classes with other employee's children during the workweek. Emil attended these from the age of two years old to the point where he left for Badr. At around the same age he started classes, Emil found he could easily understand a variety of Pokémon languages. While at first his mothers thought he was letting his imagination run and attributing words to those who could not specifically communicate, it quickly became apparent that he had an uncanny ability to translate most Pokémon's feelings accurately. When he was very young, this had gained him many friends his age, but as they grew up they derided him for making things up.

After his classmates all but deserted him, his best friends inevitably became Pokémon. Specifically, a clan of Magnemite that lived at the station and helped the engineers in exchange for food and interesting things to do. One in particular was closest to him, and it happened that many a time Magnemite would follow him home to hang out all night. They talked about adventures and what they knew of Badr and how cool the moon had to be. Eventually they decided they'd just stow away on a shuttle and go on their own, have an adventure all by themselves.

And here they are. Certain Badr transport station employees swear up and down the place is haunted by the ghost of a child. They see the shadow of the child floating around corners and movement in the corners of their eyes, but they haven't found any sort of proof. All that's really happening is Magnemite letting Emil hold onto its magnets while they zoom aorund in search of things to do. They have fun.

tldr he's a child that can talk to pokemon and is here unsupervised

Yesterday evening (relative earth time), BadrTech Laboratories proudly announced the opening of its new 20 million-Pokedollar moon rock mining facility in Colony G. The facility is expected to create over 300 jobs and will help accommodate the increasing demand on evolutionary stones, as well as further research on moon rocks.

TyLPtda.png
Professor Charon, former governor, as well as CEO and Lead Scientist of BadrTech, has expressed his appreciation for the help of foreign scientists:

"When we first arrived on the moon, we came as crusaders, not conquerors. Unlike our ancestors who immediately claimed the land as their own, we claimed the land for earth. This is why we have strived to incorporate as much inter-regional influence as possible. Of course, there are some who oppose technological development... But to each their own."

When asked if last week's disappearance of Dr. Felicity Patricia had slowed down or affected progress, he firmly replied:

"Not at all. We have still not come to a conclusion as to what caused miss Patricia to suddenly disappear off the face of the moon, or why she -possibly- took much vital information with her. We are working closely with the police to solve this issue but it has not obstructed the path of science in any way."

For more news concerning the disappearance, tune in for the evening broadcast.

Know your Colonies - Pt. 1: Colony B - Kamar

Kamar is Badr's second-largest 'city' after the capital Tera Tova. However, this colony is not residential, being home to Badr's largest industrial spaceport, capable of housing a large number of spaceships at once. This is where most of the imports arrive, such as food or building materials. Valuable goods, however, are often transported through private spacelines such as Lunar© or BadrTech®.

The few residential areas that exist are mainly for spaceport workers and their families, provided by the government. Kamar is also dotted with multiple public and private warehouses where imported goods and mined rocks are stored. These warehouses are often massive and some are even dug inside the moon's crust, allowing for more storage space.

436.gif
437.gif
The colony is also home to a large population of Bronzor, most of them domesticated. Being able to roam freely without the need for air or gravity, they are often found in the wild or in buildings. The oldest of them may also be Bronzongs, though they are less common.

We have been told of a recent incident at the newly-opened Mining Facility F. An explosion which occurred at about midnight RET was recorded to have happened in the southern part of th facility. Details of the damages and reasons have not yet been identified. Authorities are currently working hard to evacuate the surrounding areas in case of any subsequent explosions. Though most fires have been put out, the Facility has been put off-limits to the public for the moment. More concerning this story later.
