Hi guys i am ARKA9 with another tutorial THIS IS MY FIRST

Well, i didn't find any bootscreen editing tutorials for fire red on the forum so, I decided to do one.

For those who don't know what a boot screen is :-

We often ignore editing the bootscreen and keep our focus on editing the titlescreen.....but we have to edit this stuff too so, let's get started...

What you will need:-

1. Graphics Gale
2. Irfan view
3. UNLZ.gba.exe
4. Sphere editor
5. APE
6. NTME
7. FSF
8. Drawing skills
9. *PATIENCE*

Step 1. Making an image

Spoiler:
Make your image in graphics gale which is actually a image editor...(you can use photoshop or other alternative). The image should be 240x160 pixels (not more than that)
So when you make a new image (File>New) then set the properties to this:-

I came up with this:-

Well, it's not quite good but still.....

Step 2. Making a Tileset

Spoiler:
Open up Sphere Editor (not sphere.exe but editor.exe)
Click on File>Import>Image to map and select your image

It should look like this:-

Some popup windows would come up

First of all asking where do you have to save the map.....save it in your desired folder/drive

Second, asking tile dimensions:- set width to 8 and height to 8

Third, asking that "do you want to remove duplicate tiles" click "yes"

After this, click Open>Map and locate your map file.

Then you will see this:-

All you need to do is to adjust the tiles window and select all tiles like this:-

Goto the tileset tab and copy the image

Goto Irfan view and paste you ur image.

Goto Image>Decrease Color depth> And select 16 colors

Save your image (this is your tileset)

Step 3. Making the raw file

Spoiler:
Open up NTME
Click on File>Open Tileset and locate your image
Click on File>Open Tilemap > From sphere RMP file and locate you RMP file (the map which you imported earlier)
Don't forget to select FR LG/TS under "Preset Sizes" drop down menu

It should look like this:-

Then save it as RAW file.

Step 4:- Getting the pallete

Spoiler:

Open your titleset in Graphics Gale and click on small arrow on the right.

Click on save pallete and save as .ACT file (NOT .PAL) I mean it

Step 5:- Finally Inserting it

Spoiler:
Open your ROM in Unlz.gba.exe and goto 207

In another window open FSF and find free space upto 79000 bytes...

I got these offsets:-
71A23C
71A23D

Now in unlz.gba click on
Import and locate your tileset

Click on write to ROM and check "automatically fix pointers"
and in the image offset text box put you offset.

Then click OK
It will show some popup information.

Click next and you jump to 208 (Obviously 208 comes after 207)

Click on file>load raw and locate the raw file

follow the same steps for insertion with a fresh offset.

Lets check out our ROM

Aww... The bootcsreen is just black
Don't worry we still have some steps left.

Final step :- Fixing the colors
Spoiler:

Open APE and open your ROM in it.

Type 00402260 in the offset box

Then click Edit>Changed Pallete>Import and locate the .act file

It should look like this.

Click on Replace and check out your ROM

RESULT:-
Spoiler:

Some more ideas for the bootscreen are:-

Hey, I can't find the Sphere v1.5 DE that you're using. Could you provide a link to the download page?

This opens quite a bit of possibilities. You made this procedure look easy!

I remember dabbling with Sphere back then.

A little error in your tuto : 00402260 not 00402240

I have a little problem :
My original image is in 16 colors and 240*160
The tileset obtain is 232 *152. So I don't uderstand why it doesn't works.
Before I' ve test with another tileset but the result was buggy. I think it was because the tileset was more 192*184
If someone can help me, thanks.

Thanks for reporting the error! Fixed.

As per my information...I think you are clicking "no" while the "remove duplicate tiles" popup appears in sphere...Click "yes" and you are done

You said you are making some upon request right? If so then can u go make me one that has some lightning bolts in the background if possible and the big red text that says

PLAY THIS GAME AT YOUR OWN RISK IT MAY BE YOUR LAST!!!
Creator Destructor

If u can't do the lightning bolts in the background then just do the words and add a zekrom Sprite

Ok I followed your steps and got a screen with splotches on it that are the palette colors. How do I fix this? I am seriously thinking of just requesting.

Edit: Ok I fixed the splotches but now it just looks weird like Shogun's image but not as accurate. I click yes remove duplicates but it still won't work.

Found the Emerald location. 00DC3D74 is the offset. The number is around 2537-40. It ended up being 2537, 2539, or 2540.
The tilemap goes in the next number.
And the palette. 00DC3D54

I think the steps for emerald are quite different. I saw a tutorial but I never tried it out. Just search it up in the forums.

This is the only boot screen edit tutorial I've seen. But it's pretty much the same. Just use the offsets I provided and when on the NTME use the E TS preset. I got my emerald hack to have a custom boot logo.
