View Full Version : Jumping right into game creating

November 15th, 2008, 11:02 PM
I've been reading over this site awhile and have played through Pokemon Prism (Gonna play Brown soon) and Pokemon Shiny Gold.

So I wanted to start making a game of my own, starting out with just mapping mostly, and getting into scripting later, cause I can NOT wrap my head around that right now.

I'm probably gonna have a lot of questions, so try not to get annoyed. xD.

What I want to do is put a spin on the 8 badge system, although I'm not sure if anyone knows whether you can avoid that or not, I'd like to. It's going to be a more storyline game and such. Quests if it's possible. But I'll figure that out as I go along.

Good to be here.

Well, we're glad to have you here, Charmellow.
Welcome to the Pokécommunity.

So, you wish to begin ROM hacking, eh?
Well, I can assure you that you have come to the right forum! Our ROM Hacking section is quite extensive and should provide all the assistance you could ever need. Whether it be the guides in the Documents and Tutorials (http://www.pokecommunity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58) sub-forum or the helpful people posting over in the Simple Questions (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=79614) thread, I'm certain you will learn quite quickly. Just be patient, however, hacking takes quite a while to master.
(Heck, even I never came any where near mastering it!)

From my own personal experience, I do believe you can manipulate the badges. It all depends on what you wish to do. If you want to get rid of them completely, well I don't believe having a team full of disobeying Pokémon would be an ideal game. However, if you were to give the player all the badges at the beginning of the game in a discreet manner and make the graphics invisible, that might just work. Then again, it has been a while since old Hide ROM hacked; perhaps my information isn't the most accurate.

Good luck with your endeavors, Charmellow.
(Awesome user name, by the way)

Hope you have a wonderful time around the community and feel free to send me a PM or VM any time you have a simple question or just want to chat.

I see. I've started to do my own hacking. At this time I'm still behind a few posts before I can really help or be helped, as this community won't let you post links before a 15 post limit. Makes sense though, otherwise too many spaming.

I don't know much, other than recoloring sprites and doing a crappy job at inserting pokemon. You can ask me about that type of stuff any time I'm around though. I'm new, but would like to help as I know others help me out too. :)

..Would you like to hack only gba roms? Well, I look forward to your work.
