View Full Version : Defined By...

This is a poem I did as a project to summarize a unit in my health class. It talks about a young person who lives, and dies, by AIDS and briefly explains how that has affected his life.

Defined By...
A Poem

As I gaze upon these white walls,
I can almost hear death's warm calls.
For no longer is there belief
Death will come to me
But I who will choose to end my grief.
And all I've striven to be,
Seems small beneath what I am.
What I've become.
When I wake up to see
The looks of disgust,
Of fright and mistrust,
It very much hurts me.
For all they can see
Is one little act
So very long ago.
But what lays beyond
Not even do I know,
Yet now it is dark,
Now it is cold,
And I am ready.
Subliminal message:

You get AIDS, you die! Abstinence, children, abstinence!

Well, since you have your mora at the bottom, and the last line of the poem is "And I am ready" does that mean you're ready to stop being abstinent? Just makes me wonder.

But anyway, death poems for the win. (b' ')b I liked this one. Haunting at the beginning.

My health teacher wrote a question mark about that too, but it means that he is ready to die. You don't walk away from AIDS. You keep wasting away until eventually you get an opportunistic infection and are kaput (no immune system, no you)... Basically, my health teacher was trying to scare the kids out of having sex.
