View Full Version : The "check out this artist/band" thread

What the title says. Post anything you want out there for people to listen to that they may or may not have heard, depending on the person. I've removed the list of everything as big music fans shouldn't have any problem looking through posts. At least I wouldn't mind doing that LOL, not sure about anybody else. Also, part of it is just a good amount of people were posting well known and mainstream stuff, which I'd rather not rehash on a list. Plus, it's just easier in general instead of me going back and updating it all the time..

My initial suggestion...
www.myspace.com/volumes (http://www.myspace.com/volumes)
For fans of melodic hardcore, modern hardcore, and metalcore.

Oh, well, here is my favorite song (by the same artist...I hoe this isn't considered trolling, because the album is like only a week or two old)

Life Starts Now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIJ1S3BrwH4)

Recommended for: People who like rock, but also perfer soft, deep music.

(If you see my signature, you'll know I'm all over this song. :P)

I would say Maximum The Hormone.

Great Japanese heavy rock/metal band.

October 8th, 2009, 5:06 PM

Casely - Ripple

For any R&B fans or fans of smooth and mellow music. =)

October 8th, 2009, 5:16 PM

Anathema, "atmospheric" rock.

October 9th, 2009, 6:58 AM
This Is Eat You Up By BoA. It's R&B with a awesome Beat!

October 9th, 2009, 10:51 PM
The Zombies, very underrated Psychedelic band from the 60s that were constantly overshadowed by Beatles, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, etc.. They deserve more attention now than they did before. And I'm pretty sure most of you heard of this song at least once in your life:

October 9th, 2009, 10:54 PM
Dead By Sunrise. If you like Linkin Park as much as I do.

"Cross The Line"
Christian Rock, rock, pop-rock
appeals to most everyone. Their songs, though labeled as Christian, never once mention anything religious. Everyone I know can relate to their songs.

October 12th, 2009, 8:27 AM
For the lovers of heavy rock.
These guys are awesome.
Check them out:

If you are fierce you need to look into Jeffree Star. His EP, Cupcakes Taste Like Violence and his album, Beauty Killer are simply amazing and show his evolution as an artist. He puts a sick but feminine spin on Electric, Rock and everything in between. He has really changed from his corny rap roots.

October 14th, 2009, 1:24 AM
Jeffree Star is epic. I love his songs

October 14th, 2009, 3:10 AM
The Sword.

They seem to be labeled as doom metal, but while I disagree, they are still a "clean" and classic-sounding heavy metal band formed in 2003. Their material is pretty raw and they're obviously Sabbath-influenced (as in Black Sabbath, really! Go listen to them, it's so obvious). You might not even have to be a metal fan to listen to them, so if you're still interested, look into "How Heavy This Axe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9KbmRTgigQ)."

Oh, and uh, good job to the person that suggested The Zombies. (:

They are incredible.

Mew is a Danish alternative music band. Whilst their music may be classified as indie and on occasion progressive rock, they sometimes humorously refer to it themselves as "pretentious art rock". The band's guitarist Bo Madsen refers to the band as "the world's only indie stadium band".

Mew - "Repeaterbeater"
My favorite song. The intro is about 2 minutes, so you can either watch or skip through, whatever.

So they are Indie/Alternative/Shoegaze

October 15th, 2009, 9:23 AM

In Case of Fire-Parallels.
An alternative progressive rock band.
If you like Muse or anything like them, they are pretty awesome ;D

This is probably more for bands that most people here might not know about.

If you like Alternative and Rock I heavily suggest;

Here's an example of one of their songs from their third album: Cities

I don't know the general music taste of members on here, but I'm recommending these artists anyway....

Annie (Norwegian Pop Singer) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN8_YhOeXL4 (Not her best, but a good indicator of her work)

Alexandra Burke (X Factor Winner 2008) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd6UaA3f8GY [Her album is pretty fantastic, she worked with RedOne, Ne-Yo, Stargate and loads of others]

Paloma Faith - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki0xBb2wbr4

In love with all of them. The Brits on PC will probably know Paloma and Alexandra, but it's more for the benefit of those outside the UK.

Evanescence is mainstream; people are tired of hearing of them.

Oh yeah they are mainsream XD
But I don't see how people are tired of hearing them considering they haven't had anything new for 3 years

October 18th, 2009, 7:29 PM
I'm saying that they are a pretty well-known band. Try to put other bands that you think should be in the spotlight a little more.

The Script, Breakeven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi7kHvM-ivI).

Slow-paced, sorta ballad song. Kinda.

My friend's mum said that the main singer looks like how I'd look when I'm older. :3
And then my mum agreed.

Love this song. ~

Mother Love Bone:
Little known band Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament were in before Pearl Jam; They were going to be one of the best out of the Seattle scene, but their high expectations were tragically cut short when lead singer Andy Wood died of a heroin overdose only weeks before their first LP was released.

IMO This band is nothing short of amazing.

These three bands are awesome. Mando Diao is fairly well known, but still worth sharing.

The Draytones - Keep Loving Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na-TMIXHzy4)

This is an "English indie rock band" according to Wiki. They have a mix of rock, pop, blues, and folk according to another website. So this is one of their songs:

and this one is one of my favorites (and I didn't know they were featured on Grey's Anatomy):

The Cat Empire is a really catchy Ska/Jazz/Latin/Funk band.

You could watch The Car Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uI_4Uc-XKY) or The Chariot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-VOB8ajbzY).
Both songs are good.

Alana Grace - The Tunnel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf-SXAgD8dw)
I love Alana Grace, and it really upsets me that nobody else knows who she is. She did the song 'Black Roses Red' in the movie 'Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants', but that's the only fame she ever got. :(

Dream Asylum - Just Let Me Know (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFglVr6Eb2Q)
Ironically I discovered this band through a Pokémon AMV (ShinjixSatoshi x3). I'm so grateful to the creator for introducing me XD. Anyway, I love this band to bits now.

Sister Hazel - Change Your Mind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y944YxuE1OU)
Sister Hazel are my happy days band. They can really cheer you up when you feel gloomy.

November 17th, 2009, 11:43 AM
Absent Elk.

Their song "Sun & Water" is fairly well known.

But my favourite by them is "Cannibals (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZgR6zWo1xk)", They also did a cover of Pokerface which you Gaga fans may not be too keen on.

Black Box Revelation.

Their song "I Think I Like You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZzknLiIFho)", has been in my head for days. Their other stuff is grand too.

Gary, the Magic Fairy

LIGHTS (http://www.myspace.com/lights)

And, well... she describes her music better than I can:
Oh hey, I'm LIGHTS--a fairly small-sized, Canadian girl who makes intergalactic-electro music. What do I mean by intergalactic? I'm glad you asked. I try to find sounds that seem like they could have been plucked from Saturn's rings or a meteor belt. Equal parts fantastical/epic/beautiful/emotional.Her music videos are amazing:
Ice [New Version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU9-TRVbhkE)] [Old (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ8UWHwta9U)]

February Air (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLbIyqQ2hp0)
