Meet Google's communist sibling, Goojje, a search engine launched in mainland China just a couple of days after Google announced it would pull out of the country.

According to Reuters, the name for the new service was chosen as a play on words. Apparently the "gle" syllable of Google pronounced in Chinese sounds like "older brother," while "jje" means older sister. Since older brother chose to pull out from China following some trouble with big brother, it's only natural that the older sister should step into the fray.

The website mocks Google's decision to pull out from China, saying "Sister was very happy when brother gave up the thought of leaving and stayed for sister." Google on the other hand, issued no comment about older sister.

Unlike most Chinese knock-offs, the search engine actually works, although it returns different results than Google as it is obviously more ideologically correct.

You can check it out here (http://goojje.com/), just don't try searching for, well, you see what.I don't think it quite has all the features that Google has, but you have to commend them for getting this up in just a matter of days, haha.

I think the best part is that when you do search for "falun gong organ harvesting", the connection times out, haha.

edit: apparently it's meant to be a social statement (http://shanghaiist.com/2010/01/28/googles_shanzhai_sister_goojje_pops.php). Still interesting though.
