lolwut? Has CNBC lost their minds? Twilight is not a horror film as romance is closer than that. Article can be viewed here (http://www.cnbc.com/id/39870833?slide=9).

Please discuss!

Maybe they mean because its horrifically bad.

January 1st, 2011, 10:35 PM
Maybe they figure that: vampires + blood + werewolves = horror?

idk, but I'm somewhat surprised, if only because everyone knows that Twilight is a romance series, whether they're a fan of it or not.

Also, this belongs in Culture and Media, so there it moves.

I think they might have got the word horror mixed up with horrible.

January 2nd, 2011, 12:22 AM
How is Twilight a horror movie franchise? Just because it has vampires and werewolves and all those other "scary" stuff that didn't even considered scary... oh pleeeeease. *facepalm*

Since horror is my favourite genre, that is a complete insult.

Anything that's certified 12+ is considered horror now because little kids might be frightened by it.

But yeah, it's not liking being a "highest grossing film" actually means anything anyway.

Semi-related; I've never been on the CNBC site before now, and I must say it looks horrible.

Oh yeah, New Moon and Eclipse are on there, too!

Ugh, way to give horror films the middle finger. :(

Well, to be fair, having to sit through Twilight is enough to give you nightmares.

January 3rd, 2011, 12:26 AM
Ugh. The Twilight movie doesn't deserve to be 8th highest grossing movie in any genre, but it being considered horror is 10 times more ridiculous. Doesn't everyone and their grandmothers know about Twilight by now? You'd think someone would point out that it's not scary at all nor was it written to be scary.

Again, ugh.

(I applaud the many jokes made on why it's in horror, though.)

I think that I probably just had the biggest facepalm that I've ever had in my life. I'm sure that it's not scary at all. I could possibly understand it being the 8th highest grossing romance film, but horror? Why? -_-

January 3rd, 2011, 2:39 AM
That crap doesn't deserve to exist. What a blow to the horror genre. I mean, most romance stuff was pretty bad already, but this is just rude to an entire genre.
Imma go laugh as my friends become horrified by this news.

It's horrific how awful this movie is. But I can't really say the movie is bad. I've never seen it. Judging the book, it's okay. The writing had it's flaws, and it sounds like a badly written fan-fiction more than a bestseller romance novel.

As for the genre, that's a load of crock. Horror movies are, I 'unno, supposed to scare you? I suppose I would be scared if I had to watch it, but I digress.

January 3rd, 2011, 10:20 PM
Well, if Avatar can become the highest-grossing movie of all time then I suppose Twilight can get 8th in Horror?

January 3rd, 2011, 11:09 PM
What a horrorble decision.

The only thing scary about the movie is how bad it is.

January 4th, 2011, 6:15 AM
They got their genres wrong. As far as I know, Twilight isn't horror. Besides, its just best grossing not best movie. If it was one of the best horror movies, I'd kill...a rat.

January 4th, 2011, 6:37 AM
Well, there's another reason for me to hate twilight. In no way it is a horror film. I had to go see this monstrosity of a film with my ex-girlfriend and I can agree with you in that it was meant to be a romance film, not a horror

Someone, somewhere has found a way to look at Twilight and make it worse. That person deserves praise, they've done the impossible.

What are you guys talking about? This series is downright terrifying. It's about an obsessive stalker vampire that stalks a doormat girl that turns out to be just as obsessed with him. And while they're being generally obsessed with each other, another obsessive stalker jumps into the picture and then it's an obsessive stalker love triangle. The series depicts their unhealthy affection for each other and the consequenc-

Oh, wait, what was that? We're actually supposed to find this movie romantic? We're not supposed to find Edward creepy? ... Oh, well, never mind then.

... You've gotta be kidding me, that movie isn't even CLOSE to being horror.

February 2nd, 2011, 3:20 AM
No, no, no, no, they were thinking horrible film. Easy mistake :P

February 3rd, 2011, 11:51 AM
Haha, all you lot who think they mixed up horror with horrible are so wrong. They're just imbeciles. It is horrifically bad (the first one at least, I've not seen the others). I mean, most of the girls I know who go to see the films admit that they're rubbish, but only go "because taylor lautner is fit" apparently :P

Still, wouldn't you be scared if your local stalker turned out to be sparkly?

I can't get offended by its' classification as horror, as I found the bit in Kick-Ass where Nicholas Cage gets burned alive to be bad enough...but I do know it's definitely not a horror film.

February 11th, 2011, 6:16 AM
People are stupid.

That is all.

February 11th, 2011, 5:01 PM
I would be terrified to watch any of the Twilight movies (that's after already seeing the first one). If that doesn't mean they're horror, I don't know what does. D;

February 11th, 2011, 7:06 PM
I... am baffled. Absolutely baffled.

I didn't know that sparkling vampires = horror.

It is a horror because like others said, it has vampires and werewolves in it. Because it is also a romantic movie it is a Gothic Horror genre, a fusion of horror and romance. It may not be scary (therefore I wouldn't class it in a horror list) but technically it is a horror.

February 19th, 2011, 6:34 AM
Twilight isn't horror, it's a romantic film. Even though there are vampires, werewolves, and such, it doesn't seem scary to me at all.

I laughed at what they wrote. It sounds so cliche, I can't believe anyone would go "I want to read/watch Twilight!" after hearing that.

And the image made me laugh as well.

In all seriousness, though... It's probably just a plot to make Twilight sound good. Maybe it sold enough, isn't exactly that genre, but "eh, it's close enough. Let's go with this and make more people watch it!"

February 19th, 2011, 12:58 PM
All I have to say is... LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

February 28th, 2011, 12:54 PM
That's outrageous

March 3rd, 2011, 1:57 PM
It's probably because of it having vampires and werewolves in it like stated previously.

I'm not surprized with how many guys are calling it horrible on here. Haters going to hate huh? Especially when the said movie makes their girlfriend see them as obsolete.

It is a rather horrifying production.

Honestly the most depressing part is that it's the eighth-highest grossing anything.
