From video game reviews, to writing ideas, to more writing, to other writing articles... And maybe some anime stuff thrown in. Or something.

30 Days of Gaming: Intro and Day 1
Posted March 5th, 2011 at 3:57 PM by Shanghai Alice
All aboard the bandwagon. Chuggawhooooooooooooo~
So, yes. Shanghai Alice, King of Unfinished Projects has decided to start a project that, hopefully, he will finish, because it's all neatly laid out, and requires no brain power.
Yayz.
Anyway, yeah. I'll try to update this every day for thirty days. Actually, no. It won't happen, because of camping and weekend things. However, I'll try to update this thirty days I am home. Get it?
Got it?
Good.
Anyway, here's Day 1:

Day 1: Shanghai's First Video Game
Ahh, this one actually made me think back to all the games I used to play. The Mario ones, and the earlier Pokemon games, and whatnot. Good times...
Now, barring educational "games", because they aren't really games, and I had too many to remember...
My first game would have been... *Thinks back*
Man, that's quite a ways back. I think it was...
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins for the GBA. That, or maybe Zelda... I can't remember.
Either way, this post isn't about those games in particular. It is now about my nostalgic gaming memories.
See, my brother was big into video games. He still is, actually. He's about six years older than me, too, so I've pretty much inherited a lot from him, both materially and preference-wise.
Anyway, when he was a kid, he was big into Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon. Therefore, when I was old enough to borrow his GameBoy (This was before the days he had a GBC), I typically played games like Link's Awakening or the aforementioned Mario game. All in all, a good time.
Of course, I eventually got my own GameBoy Color (Blue one, fairly plain. I think I still have it somewhere. I definitely have my sister's old see-through purple one, with the white case and speakers. That thing was awesome. She always got the best stuff), and, therefore, started playing vidja games a lot more. My biggest favorite was, of course, Pokemon Silver. And man, I holed myself up in my room for hours at a time.
Wow... I just had a flashback to about eight years ago, which triggered a whole batch of 'em. Talk about nostalgia...
I remember the days of playing video games during long car trips, of arguing over which Pokemon was better, or who got to play what. I remember clambering for sources of light when night fell, and smuggling my GameBoy into bed. I remember the time I dropped my GameBoy, and thought it had broken because it wouldn't turn on for a few hours... and the horror that came with that event.
I remember rediscovering old games a few years later. I remember that surge of nostalgia I got when I played Crystal again, two or three years ago. I remember my brother setting up Chrono Trigger when we had just moved, back when I was eight, so we could play while my parents were busy unpacking. I remember watching him play, learning from what he said. I remember fighting Magus for the first time, or the first time I fought the Naga-ettes. I remember finding Chrono Trigger in a batch of his emulator files a year before, and the day when he bought the actual cartridge. They still sold Super Nintendo games in game stores back then.
I remember the days of floppy discs, of making documents and powerpoints to show to my siblings, of them doing the same. I remember perusing guides, looking up what level Charmander evolved, and wondering why my Pokemon sucked so badly. I remember the fact that, well, I was typically horrible at games in general, never even finishing so much as one.
I remember digging the fields in Link's Awakening, and the fish levels of the old Commander Keen games. I remember my friends playing F-Zero with me, or watching my suck badly at Tyrian.
Goodness gracious... This post dug up so many old memories, so many good times, and so many people I had just forgotten...
I know this was probably supposed to be more informative.
But for now, all I can do is sit back, smile, and remember.
And don't even get me started on Super Smash Brothers or Animal Crossing.
And Kanako help you if you mention Double Dash. xD
