From video game reviews, to writing ideas, to more writing, to other writing articles... And maybe some anime stuff thrown in. Or something.

30 Days of Gaming: Day 3: Most Dramatic (Non-Storyline) Video Game War
Posted March 7th, 2011 at 2:35 PM by Shanghai Alice
No, I did not pick this theme to specifically rant about Sengoku Gensokyo.
But I really did. So ha.
Okay, as an explanation, this post will be about the most dramatic video game war that wasn't storyline related, so RPGs are right out.
This means games like Civilization or Warcraft apply. Basically, any game where you can declare war on another faction.
As promised, I have chosen a moment from Sengoku Gensokyo as the Most Dramatic (Non-Storyline) Video Game War.
I have chosen the Human Village Reclamation Campaign, and the War of Vengeance that followed it.
And, well... Let's let the narrative speak for itself...
--------------------------------------------------------
It was a quiet day, as they all had become. After driving the Human Village Corps out of their home, the Hakurei Army was met with almost unanimous hostility from all sides, in the form of a simultaneous declaration of war by the Doll Liberation Front, the Strongest Fairy Army, and the Hakugyokurou Hades. Only Eientei decided to remain neutral, as they had for millenia.
Now, fighting a three-front war, the Hakurei Army rapidly sought to create buffer zones between two of their three enemies, rapidly seizing weakly defended fringe territories to fend off attacks against the main Village. However, as resources grew scarce from a protracted war, the Army struggled helplessly as their attempts to unseat the Strongest Fairy Army's iron grip over the Misty Lake were met with failure, and brutal counterattacks.. Exploiting this distraction, Yuuka Kazami, strongest fighter of the Doll Liberation Front, spearheaded a series of lightning offensives against the Human Village, driving the Hakurei Army out of their hard-won prize. Though the Hakurei Army fought valiantly, Yuuka was a one-women army, turning glorious victories into shameful defeats with a wave of her hand. Unable to find a way to defeat her, the Hakurei Army eventually admitted defeat, and abandoned their fortress. The buffer zones between the other fronts had been reconquered by their original owners almost immediately. The Hakurei Army's efforts had been wholly erased, and even reversed, as their fringe territory was quickly grabbed up by the momentum of the Doll Liberation Front.
Now, driven out of the Village, and their own homelands, the Hakurei Army turned a curse into a blessing, biding their time, training their troops in border skirmishes, and slowly gathering resources for the counter-offensive. Vowing to gain revenge, Reimu Hakurei carefully monitored the situation, waiting for an opportunity to present itself.
Not long after, it did. After gaining a resounding at yet another border skirmish, the Hakurei Army did not stop at the edges of the Night Blind Path this time. Rather, they pressed on into the territory that was once theirs, facing Yuuka the Demon once again. This time, however, there was no horrific defeat. Trained, resupplied, and bolstered by promises of revenge, the Hakurei Army fought with all their might, forcing the Invincible Flower Youkai to retreat, gaining an incredible victory, and a piece of territory that was rightfully theirs. Cheered by their victory, they staved off a counteroffensive from the Village, and marched onwards to reclaim their prize.
What followed was not pleasant in the least. In the entire Gensokyo Subjugation Campaign, such fighting that took place at the Human Village was only seen again at the Battle of Eientei, and the Yakumo Campaign. Though the Hakurei Army would gain total victory, they would soon be pushed back by the Doll Liberation Front, unable to risk their tired out soldiers in a second consecutive battle. However, because the Hakurei Army always gained more than they lost, they slowly, but surely, made progress.
Finally, after a week of bloody fighting, the final battle was neigh. The Hakurei Army had taken enough ground to declare themselves the controllers of the Village, they just needed to drive out the Doll Liberation Front once and for all in order to do so.
With a grim expression, the Hakurei Army marched forward to what would doubtlessly be a brutal conflict.
However, the Great Demon Yuuka was not there, and the Hakurei Army took the Village effortlessly, their fears for naught.
Rejoining the War of Three-Front, the Hakugyokurou Hades and the Strongest Fairy Army once again battered away at the village, but the Hakurei Army's newly formed Reserve Squadron defended it tenaciously.
Meanwhile, the Hakurei Army Main Force pushed forward, taking the Nameless Hill, and, eventually, the Garden of the Sun. The War of Revenge was over, and the Doll Liberation Front had been scattered.
What followed was a series of rapid victories, as the Hakurei Buffer Zone was reformed, after the seizure of the only territory of the Strongest Fairy Army, and the reconquering of the Flower Border, at the edge of Hakugyokurou territory.
Revenge had been attained, and only one of the three fronts was left standing. However, due to the vast difference in power, the final front would be left alone for now.
At the moment, there was Eientei to conquer, in addition to the newly formed Crimson Scarlet Devil Mansion Army which threatened the Hakurei's northern border.
The war was less than half over. The Eientei Campaign would be just as brutal.
But I really did. So ha.
