The Sheet of Humility

Posted March 27th, 2011 at 1:35 PM by Sweet Candace

I decided to do fill out a NCAA Men's Tournament bracket as my dad ran off two copies of the tournament bracket and handed one to me. I filled it out and had Duke winning over BYU in the National Championship with Ohio State and Kansas as the other two Final Four teams.

.....

Then the tournament starts and the whole situation snowballs. Duke gets trounced by Arizona, Ohio State gets stunned by Kentucky, BYU gets stopped cold by Florida and now the most recently, Kansas gets rolled over by the darlings of the tournament, this years George Mason/Butler, Virginia Commonwealth, or VCU. I'm steamed right now. I did have VCU correctly beating USC, but those first four play-in games weren't counted. I didn't have the Rams getting any farther. Now they've toppled an entire bracket by themselves. And this is a team, along with Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) that many experts said should not have been in the field of 68 in the first place! How's the humble pie taste guys? I'm sure, like most Americans can attest to, it tastes awful.

.....

This is why they call it March Madness. The only time you may have a perfect bracket is when you start filling it out. The rest of the tournament you're bending over backwards, upset over not picking a team like VCU or Butler or even Morehead State to advance past their first round match-ups. (Granted, the Butler-Old Dominion match-up was the classic 8-9 tossup).

Maybe next year I'll have a better time. Sure, upsets capture the imagination, but there not always good for people's brackets.

Purdue didn't get into the sweet sixteen, so I ceased caring.

    Go Butler? lol
