Bug catching contests for everyone!

Anyway, the point of thos blog isn't to point out fail memes, but one other thing which I would like to point out, and it's those things that bother me.

One thing that bothers me are those posts being un-intelligent, and not very thought out. I mean, some posts are good, like if someone was to fix a problem for you, they'd just go "fixed it for you" or something, which is completely fine, but what angers me are those people who don't even think, and use something generic.

As someone who likes to post in the New Users / Welcomes section, it annoys me when I see little amount of thought in a post, not by a new user, but by those who tend to "greet" people. I mean, I will go over there and visit every so often, and look for those people who actually go and mention a few things about themselves because they want to introduce themselves and be a part of the wonderful community. Now there are some people who just say "welcome to PC", which is the part that annoys me. I mean, these new people have gone all out to make a decent, and well-constructed introduction with loads of information about themselves, and people just have the nerve to barely acknowledge their existance and just a simple, and generic "welcome" post. Seriously people, you need to go out and put some thought into your posts.

This is something I do. I may make something along the lines of a 10-line post for new people to read, but it shows that I care, and that new people don't feel alone in what they have interests in. It shows that some people here have some common ground with these newer folk, and it pleases me to see new people coming here to be awesome.

That said, there are those threads by newer people who just say "hi, i'm new" which also annoy me. I mean, as someone who doesn't like just writing out simple posts which are just one line, or just a few words unless that's all I can write, this annoys me. What am I meant to say to these people, who don't express any form of interest or something, except for a hidden interest to join just to download shinygold or something. :(

Fact: One time, I almost wrote Charge Meme instead of Charge Beam. :P

    Meh.

I'm not a NU/W regular tbh, but when I do decide to randomly post there, I do add a bit more about PC with that "Welcome". :p

You may enjoy writing tl;dr posts there, but not all of us do. To each, his/her own really...I don't see any glaring flaw or real logic in it myself personally, but that's neither here nor there.

Now I will agree, n00bs who join and don't post much in their own thread don't deserve the reply you'd give, so give them back the same. Garbage in, Garbage out.

But meh. Personally I think n00bs are still entitled to their first post in NU/W, even if "they're doing rong!" in the first place so.

Anyway, that's all I have to say about it. No need to worry. :3

I should welcome people again soon. :3

Well actually, it depends on the intro post TBH; I would usually include on my old welcome posts comments on what people have introduced about themselves, but when the intro itself is pretty...generic, my welcome post won't hold as much substance, because well...there's not a whole lot to talk about.

And its understandable -- new users sometimes won't know or even want to say about themselves. Same with the short welcome posts; they might be a little generic / short...but they ARE still technically welcome posts, so, I would think there's a little bit of care in that.

Well, this is in my opinion anyway.

    Yes Shawn you should.

    My own views on NU/W:
What with my responses to introductions, I try to be as original as possible. But with the amount of welcoming I do.... that's really, really hard. So I do my best and try for a few lines about something the person has said + a few lines about what they might like at PC. The "Hey welcome to PC bye" thing irks me, because I remember when that's all that welcome threads were, and there is a reason those types of welcomes are discouraged. And, I feel like it drags down PC's reputation a bi- I keep telling people we're friendly and kind, and then people do those kind of selfish things just for the postcount. :(

However, like you said, some people don't tell us about themselves. I'm understanding about it, though I see it a lot. I try to tell them a bit about PC, and prompt them to tell more about themselves to further other people's welcomes. Best thing I can do, really.

Actually Anna, I'd have to say that out of all the places I've visited, Pokecommunity is up there with the big dogs when it comes to greeting new people. I mean, sure we don't have a lot of people who greet, but the quality is amazing. I joined a new forum not too long ago and the reactions I got there were just either a "Welcome" or a message which is sent to pretty much, every new person. It really does irk me when people do that.
