2012 brings new things to discover as well as uncertainty about the future. It also brings more of that 2012 doomsday BS that has been running rampant the past few years, despite common sense and scientists actually proving that the predicted Mayan doomsday will not happen! But that still doesn't stop idiots like Discovery Channel, History Channel, Patrick Geryl and other morons from continuing to shove their doomsday shows and books down our throats!
Since the world will end in 356 days from now (we are in a leap year, so we have the 29th of February), I've decided to have my own fun with this "phenomenon". Don't worry, I'm not going to talk about how the earth will suddenly reverse its magnetic fields or anything like that. I lack the intelligence to make sense of that stuff.
The reason for this title if I'm not going to talk about 2012? A certain 80's song that critics think is probably the worst song in history.

I'm not sure how many of you at PC still own the original NES system. I got mine sometime in 1988 or 1990. Either way, I've had my NES for about 20 years, give or take a year or two.
So, over the years, I had to deal with the blinking screen problem that was consistent for all NES owners. I blew into the system, I blew into the cart, I used water to clean the connectors and I even went as far as to slap the crap out of my NES to get it to work.
So, 20 years of doing that to the poor thing has resulted in the picture below.

THAT is my NES!! I've beaten that thing worse than a red-headed stepchild!! The door has been gone for a long time and you can see the nice, big crack on the top of the system.
Despite that, the system STILL WORKS! However, I gave it a new lease on life a few years ago when me and my friend put in a brand new 72-pin connector in my NES. I fired it up before the end of 2008 and played it a bit, reliving some of my younger days when I would just hover over this ancient relic of gaming past and play classics like Mario 3 and Contra all the time.
So, what are my plans for this beaten down system? Well, I'd like to replace the top cover with one that still has the door attached to it. Without the door, dust gets into the connectors and screws up everything. I've tried Ebay, but every time I tried to get a console that doesn't work so I can use that for parts, I'm always outbid by some dork with a lower reputation score!!!
So, say hello to my little friend that is still alive and kicking into 2009!

We still have our NES that my dad bought when I was born. So it'll be twenty years old in June. Sometimes my family likes to fire it up and play classic games like Gauntlet 2 or Dick Tracy. xDPosted January 11th, 2009 at 7:49 AM by luke
