Let's see now…

Today I read an article from GoNintendo: GoNintendo ‘End of day’ thoughts - The Game Boy…you can take it anywhere you want to go! (a look at Nintendo’s marketing)

I admit, I've probably mellowed a lot in the past year when it comes to typing a lot. Have I gotten lazy, or have I gotten too busy? Probably both. But I've been looking at opinions about Nintendo in general here and there; I've always loathed their policy towards region-locking from the very start. (Though, because I don't care for Europe anymore, I'm not buying games from the PAL region anymore for my Wii unless they're cheap. I have region-unblocking homebrew for that.) The DSi is region-locked in regards to downloading DSiWare, but I don't really mind that. The Wii's region locking is another matter, but some people (read: almost all of PC's higher staff) have seen me rant loads about it until I eventually got myself a Japanese Wii. (So maybe that's one way I eventually mellowed out?)

Today, after reading that article and going through that rather cheesy video, I'm pretty inclined to agree that Nintendo's advertising today really, really sucks. It does look really sad that kids aren't the big picture for Nintendo anymore, because that was what, for the lack of a better word to seek, made Nintendo "cool". Would you seriously go for any other game console once you saw, say, a commercial like this?

(Admission: This isn't a very good example, but the girl in a bik-- nevermind. :D)

Okay, better example from NoA; Smash Bros.

Let's be serious here. How does having humorous commercials like this piece of quality compare to having none at all?

Anyone think "Wii would like to play" is very repetitive? Let's look at the Mario series for some overuse. But first, how about Super Mario 64's commericlal?

Very cheesy, I know. But let's skip a generation (two, actually) ahead…

As I said, one too many heads. Not enough game footage? (Don't get me started on the tutorial stuff thrown all over the game.)

Also, please say no to white clothing. (And, teen actor with the DSi as a music player, I bet you have an iPod or something that you really use for your music.)

(Admittedly, I'm not old enough that I'd have a chance to see these "cool" ads. Also, it should be noted that the Pokémon ads have literally retained the same format over the last decade; that is, features after features after features. At least there's not many grownups playing it, though grownups who know that effort training is should be in the ads, too!)

Then again, who bloody cares anymore? You can only face the reality here, and that isn't exactly a good thing. Obviously, Nintendo is reeling in the money; they're not going to change their strategy any time soon if it means they can reel in the profits.

Yeah, region locking sucks alot. But Nintendo have done a heap load of good where they could have gone after pure profit.
You can buy some of their older product for really cheap nowadays any way.
~The Gameboy series + games. Really cheap now
~Nintendo DS: prices as cheap as $75 dollars
Snes: Considered important in the advancement of gaming.Particularily in the multi player aspect (Mario Kart!)
