Editor's Note: This is just my personal top 10 list of favorite items in the franchise. I have not played every single game in the franchise - i.e. Skyward Sword and Spirit Tracks - and thus may chance accordingly after playing them.

Spanning over multiple generations of gaming history, the Legend of Zelda franchise has spawned a huge following of fans and gamers alike, and thus should be praised for it's consistency in delivering great content to it's audience. As such, this blog entry is dedicated to my top 10 favorite equipment items in the Nintendo franchise - enjoy!

#10. Hero's Bow/Bomb Arrows - Twilight Princess
Starting off this list is a popular favorite by many avid fans of the Legend of Zelda series, the Hero's Bow. However, I'm going to be a little more specific with the Bomb Arrows from Twilight Princess. Boy was I in for a treat when I first discovered that this was an actual thing. This added a new dimension to the game in which you solve problems as well as in combat. I mean, who wouldn't want to fire long-distance explosives at enemies?I had a lot of fun riding my Epona and maniacally shooting bombs at the enemies at my feet, which is why this starts off the list at #10.

#9. Ocarina of Time - Ocarina of Time
Surprisingly, this is the only item from the N64 classic that made it to this Top 10 list. The Ocarina of Time added a new dimension to the Zelda franchise, allowing the player to have control over a slew of game mechanics which included the time of the day, the rate at which time passed, fast travel, summoning your steed, and weather. Song of Storms is by far my favorite song learned in the game, as the way in which you learn it is quite special. While it became more of a hassle to use it in Majora's Mask, the clever integration of it by Nintendo in Ocarina of Time is why the musical instrument lands on this list at #9.

#8. Iron Boots - Twilight Princess
Now I know many of you might be surprised by this, but this is by far my favorite item in Twilight Princess, the Iron Boots allowed Nintendo to go nuts with some of the level designs in Twilight Princess (which, of course, is a plus). Specifically, I am looking at the Death Mountain level and it's magnetic floors. The Iron Boots made it very interesting traversing throughout the level where you needed to magnetize to certain areas to attach to the ceiling or fall to the floor to access new areas. The fight in which you fight the Goron Guard over lava with the Iron Boots makes for an intense battle that I will personally remember. This weight-inducing item might be hated by some, but my personal love for this has it land at #8 on this list.

Daily Music - "Closer" by Tegan and Sara

#7 Blast Mask - Majora's Mask
Starting to see a trend in explosives? The Blast Mask from Majora's Mask is by far one of the most dangerous items to use in the Legend of Zelda series. When equipped, it allows the user to become a human bomb and combust in a fiery explosion around your enemies. While it does end up hurting the user, it was a very useful item when it came to close combat situations. It also eliminated the need to buy bombs in the game as it gave you an infinite supply of explosives. Yes, it did make you look quite stupid, but the fact that I could just run up to random NPCs in the game and just explode right in front of them made for some pretty fun antics. While there are many great masks in the N64 game, the Blast Mask is the only one that cracks the Top 10 list and justly lands at #7.

#6. Skull Hammer - Wind Waker
This item is on this Top 10 list for one of the more memorable Legend of Zelda boss fights I can remember. In Wind Waker you end up facing off against the giant bird that stole your sister at the beginning of the game, and what better way of killing it by using a hammer twice the size of your body and smashing it's beak to pieces? The animation that Link makes whenever using the hammer is absolutely absurd, as he tries to heave this humongous hammer over his head and smashing it onto the heads of his opponents, leaving them either destroyed or completely dazed for a final attack.

#5. Double Clawshots - Skyward Sword
The dual-wielding Clawshots was a nifty integration by Nintendo. What it does is it allows the user to basically scale their way up specific ranges in a quick and effective way, as well as allow yourself to attach to your opponent or stun them. The reason why I chose Skyward Sword and not Twilight Princess for this entry is due to Twilight Princess' inability to attach to vines. Although I do like the design of the Clawshots in Twilight Princess over Skyward Sword, the better practicality of it in Skyward Sword is why it lands here at #5.

Daily Comic - "Genius" by Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes

#4. Ball and Chain - Twilight Princess
Besides the Bomb Mask, the Ball and Chain comes onto this list as one of the most reckless items. After defeating the Dark Hammer in Twilight Princess you obtain this item...and boy what can I say, it sure is something. I like to classify it as a "high risk, high reward" item, as it will leave you open for attack while spinning it, yet it will deal massive damage if you can hit your opponent with it. Plus you just feel like a badass while swinging it. However, the time it leaves you open for attack is why it's at #4 and not any higher.

#3. Pegasus Boots - A Link To The Past
Alright, I'll say it: the Bunny Hood is a completely dumb looking item. Yes, it makes you run fast, but there's a big price to pay as you look like a fool in doing so. Come on, do I really want to face Ganon looking like that? No. Thus, I chose the next big thing. The Pegasus Boots allows you to run at fast speeds in given intervals which allows for faster gameplay. Plus, it can be used as an attack on your enemies so you don't have to stop and face something if it gets in the path of your boots. Thus, this combination of speed, damage, and efficiency has it land at #3 on this list.

# 2. Fire Rod - A Link Between Worlds
This item grew on me as I progressed through A Link Between Worlds. The way the game is set up is it works on a rental system, meaning that all of the weapons are available to you at the beginning and you choose which items to use by renting them from Ravio, the mysterious shopkeeper in the game. However, if you purchase the item than the item will get an upgrade which you then get to keep indefinitely. It wasn't until I had bought the item in which I really started to love it. Seeing my enemies go up into a burning inferno from my upgraded Fire Rod happily made this my most used weapon in A Link Between Worlds, and thus has it land at #2 on this list.

# 1. Grappling Hook - Wind Waker
Now if people were to list their Top 5 Legend of Zelda Items, I would be surprised if anyone had this crack it. However, the Grappling Hook makes it to #1 on my favorite Legend of Zelda items due to it being my used item in my most played Legend of Zelda game. Not only was it really cool being able to traverse through Dragon Roost Cavern with, but you could also use it to steal items and hearts from your enemies by throwing it at them. Whenever I would face off with an enemy, I would always utilize the Grappling Hook first as I could add Knight's Crests to my bountiful supply of stolen goods. It would also prove to be an integral part in your adventure sailing the high seas as you could attach it to the King of Red Lions and uncover sunken treasure (and the shards of the Triforce as well).

What are your favorite Legend of Zelda items? Are there any that you absolutely hate? Besides the Master Sword which weapon do you think would be best to take out Ganon? Comment below as I'd love to hear some of your answers!
