I Don't Feel So Good... (Spoon, Dorkly, Brain Divided) [Daily Bloggity Entry #62]

Have you ever just been going on with your day when all of a sudden you get stricken with a bad case of the stomach bug? That happened to me the other day while I was working. Everything was fine and dandy when BAM!, I started to feel a little ditzy and my stomach felt like it was flipping itself over. So that got me thinking: if you're in a situation where you don't have any medication to ease the bad mojo that's going on with your body, what are some other remedies that people can possibly utilize? So, I decided to do something that I do best, and decided to make an entry

One simple, go-to answer is acupressure. If you've never heard of that before, acupressure is a technique centered around using two of your digits (usually your thumb, index finger, or middle finger) and applying gentle pressure to the joints in your wrist. People doing this have shown almost immediate results, as they've reported of losing their sense of nausea after 10-30 seconds. Their isn't much science to prove that this is accurate, but people seem to have a high percentage of approval rating for this technique. There is a theory behind this though: it is believed that applying acupressure will release certain neurotransmitters - serotonin and endomorphins specifically - that will in turn block chemicals that may be causing you to feel sick. Personally, I've had mixed results with this. I remember in 7th grade going on a boat cruise to see whales (I'll talk about that in a future entry) and having one of those wristbands that find the right place to apply acupressure. It worked on and off, but it was still better than nothing in that situation.

Some other solutions actually relate to food, which you might believe is the last thing you want to look at when you're feeling sick. If you slice a lemon, it is said that the smell of it will dissipate the feeling of nausea. If you rub some peppermint on the gums of your lips, it's said to tame even the most violent of upset stomachs with it's fresh scent. However, one of the biggest known remedies is ginger. Ginger, when consumed, has scientifically proven to promote the release of digestive juices that in turn will neutralize the stomach acid that is causing your stomach to curdle. Simultaneously, it is pushing a lot of the bad toxins throughout your intestines, allowing your body to purge itself. That's why you might have heard your parents tell you more times that you need to hear to drink ginger ale, as it's a form and proponent that will cause this purging effect. Teas are also a high source of ginger, and you can actually just eat it raw and have the same effects (without any side effects also!)

Of course, one of the best remedies of all is bed rest. When you're feeling nauseous, it's best to avoid sudden jerky motions and avoid exercising. It's been said that these motions cause even more unsettling in your stomach, so just waiting through it is best. And personally for me, that's my favorite remedy. I've always thought that after getting maybe an hour or two of rest, a lot of those unsettling things going on in my stomach would be gone by the time I wake up. Plus, I'll really take any excuse to get a few extra hours of sleep. Sleeping is one of my favorite hobbies after all!

    Never tried accupressure, nope. Did try using lemon, tho. worked, kind of. I do prefer sleeping too. I love me more sleep haha
