My College Application Essay (Woodkid, The Colors of Evil) [Daily Bloggity Entry #68]

Mood: Literally, why the heck am I still up...?

So the other day when I was cleaning my room - which mind you, is a pretty rare occurrence on my part - I came across some very interesting documents. More specifically, I had come across my essay that I had written when I was applying for college. As I am going into my middler year of university (which would be the equivalent of a third year student), I just felt like this might be a pretty opportune time to share what a college essay might look like for upcoming graduating high schoolers, or anyone else who may be interested. Thus, here is my essay! The analogy is between never giving up on your dreams and Carl Fredericksen from Pixar's movie Up. Enjoy!

Whether it is something as small as getting a passing grade on the next big test, or something as daring as becoming the next President of the United States, we all strive to attain those goals that may or may not be within our grasp. With every fantasy we create, we set time aside from our strenuous and time-consuming lives to just lift our heads into the clouds and transport ourselves to a whimsical realm where our fantasies become a reality. But most of the time, we do not pursue these ambitions. We make excuses to avoid the possibility of failure in the pursuit of achieving our dreams and in turn let the fire burning inside sizzle and burn out.

In the movie Up by Pixar Films, one cranky 78-year old Carl Fredericksen defies all odds in making his dream a reality. Mr. Fredericksen takes on the responsibility of filling out his late wife Ellie's and his own dream of reaching Paradise Falls, a wondrous and luscious region in South America where they had promised each other to have many adventures together. However, considering his age many people wanted Mr. Fredericksen to just retire and live the rest of life in peaceful solitude. But Mr. Fredericksen wouldn't let them demolish his dreams. Through adamant self-determination, Mr. Frederiksen was able to pass all tests and obstacles that lay in his path and achieve the dream that he had promised his wife.

I reference Carl Fredericksen's story because I can parallel it with my own life. Like him, I have ambitous dreams of my own. I am looking to dedicate my life to the Nursing field by assisting people who are in need of my talents. To me, Mr. Fredericksen is like a mentor. What he personally teaches me is to never give up on my dreams or abandon my quest, no matter what I may face. While I won't have talking dogs in fighter pilots attacking me stop me from achieving my goals like in the movie, there will be bumps along the road that I will have to face and overcome such as from this year when I received a concussion. Although it was tough at times to fully apply myself to what I was doing, through unyielding fortitude and perseverance I was able to overcome this. As a result, I learned that anything is possible. Mr. Fredericksen helps support this claim. If a grumpy old geezer is able to accomplish a nearly impossible feat as stated, then the future looks very bright for a social, outgoing kid like myself. I just wish that everyone else could realize that everything is possible if you really put your mind towards something you truly want to achieve."

I recall back when I applied to the community college I ended up attending, I did not need to do one. Also here is an idea for tomorrow's Daily Bloggity. Since tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day, how about talking about it for the Daily Bloggity tomorrow.

That's really odd that neither of you had to write an essay...lucky ducks!

And yeah, I can totally write about that. Stay tuned tomorrow for it!
