The Wheels on the Car - Murphy's Law

Well I took my practical driving assessment this morning, and perhaps unsurprisingly I like most others failed my first attempt. The good news though is that the instructor thought I was actually pretty decent bar a few unfortunate mishaps and that I can retake the test next week.

The Errors I Apparently Made
1. Failing to stop fully for a stop sign - Honestly, I am adamant that I did stop for the damn sign. Unfortunately the rule is that you're supposed to stop for around 3-5 seconds and I evidently count much faster than my examiner did.

2. Indicating too late to exit a roundabout - I do think that I could probably improve in this area and I will gladly take her advice into consideration in an effort to pass next week.

3. Taking too long to slow in a school zone - Shame on the future teacher here because I really screwed this one up. I thought that it was after 9:00am but as it turns out it was still 8:55am and that means the school zone was still active. I took too long to realise this and it cost me.

4. Crossing hands on the steering wheel - This one really irks me, I have much better control of the car if I can move my hands freely on the wheel than if I have to use the "push/pull" method and keep them in relatively the same spot on the sides.

5. Almost killing us at an intersection - I'm pretty accepting of my fail - except for this which was the major reason for her failing me. We almost crashed at the intersection but it was in no way my fault and I copped the blame. The other guy - an idiot - sped into the intersection, indicated after he had already turned and cut me off when I had right of way. If I find that guy I will superglue him to the middle of that intersection.

Overall I don't think I did too bad for a first go and I'm looking forward to trying again next week. I've learned a lot of useful tips from my examiner; who, despite failing me for something that someone else did, is actually a very nice and very friendly lady. Better luck next time I guess.

Feel free to share some of your own crazy experiences from your days learning to drive or from idiots on the road.

Don't worry, happens to the best of us. Hell, I got pulled over for not fully stopping at a stop sign lol.

Although granted, it happened after I had taken the SATS with a concussion, so I give myself the benefit of the doubt with that one.
