"Co-oppity Bloggity is a new segment in the Daily Bloggity which focuses on the profession in which I am working towards as well as my thoughts and opinions of everyday working. This will be a speratic series as the entries will be published at random, but will be made in chronological order by the events happening in my environment"

Mood: Getting back into the swing of things

Teaching is fun. I'll say that right up front. Each and every day you learn something new from the students you teach, whether it's through direction interaction and correspondance with what they are saying to your face, or it's something that you internally discover about yourself whether it's through your teaching habits or the actions you take within the school system. My co-op has been the epitome of that thus far. As a teacher-in-the-making, I have been able to shadow so many different teachers and experience first hand their interesting, fascinating, and sometime's bizarre teaching habits. I feel blessed to be able to have the opportunity to experience first hand all these different kinds of teaching styles, as it will ultimately help me shape the way I want to teach myself and become the teacher that I someday hope to become.

That being said, sometimes days can be pretty chaotic. For example, I'll tell you about the day that I've experienced thus far (note: the day that I publish this is the day that I am about to elaborate on.) My position as as a 'building aid,' which may be confusing to some as to what exactly that might entail. Essentially, it means I'm the switch hitter at the plate; I work in all parts of the building from inside the classrooms as aids to working within administration, as well as facilitating recesses and even occasionally pick up the random shit that community members leave on the playground from time to time (really though, this community needs to learn that leaving dog poo poo on a school sanction is completely hazardous for Kindergarteners who are running around.) I don't normally figure out what I am doing that day until I am actually at the school, which ultimately can be exciting or scary depending on how you view the situation. Me personally? I'm just content with doing busy work and preoccupying my time until the end of the day, which I know from friends is something that is hard to come by at other jobs.

You know the expression 'balls to the wall?' A definition for that can include that one's skills are put to the test in a situation or environment in which is deemed pretty darn hectic. Well, that's definitely happened today. When I arrived at the school this morning, it came to my shocking attention that my supervisor ended up breaking her hip earlier the prior night. Supposedly, she was playing with the students in the gym after school and she got hurt in one way or another, which is now going to put her out of commission until most likely the fall of this year. What this implies is that because her and I tag teamed running recesses, all responsibilities have fallen on me to facilitate all recesses from Kindergarten to 8th grade, which I actually welcome due to this (hopefully) looking very good on my resume when my co-op is finished. It was just very startling as I was very fond of my supervisor and to see such an upbeat happy person sidelined by an injury made me a tad sad.

Furthermore, on top of that news, a teacher's water broke today. Yup. Actually, right in front of me to be specific. She was full forced rushed out of the school - gently, of course - and as a result I was placed in her classroom as the new English substitute. A rushed plan was randomly left for me in which I had to find all the material for it myself, and this was probably the first time that I've actually taught a full lesson plan to a bunch of students (6th grade to be specific.) And you know what? It went off without any problems whatsoever! I was actually pretty surprised by how confident I felt teaching to all of the students - we're working on MCAS prep right now, which is essentially the state's standardized tests for elementary school students - and how I was able to work on the fly. I'd like to think that it was a combination of my own raw talents and my accumulated knowledge that let me excel in the kind of environment I was in. Either way, I just find it exciting that I now have the confidence knowing I can lead a classroom of older students and hold my own without any hiccups. It's a great feeling to say the least.

What about you guys? What do you want to do as a profession? What are some obstacles that you think will block your way towards success? Have you ever been thrown in the fray of a situation and had to think on your feet? Feel free to comment and discuss what you have to say about this topic as I'd love to chit chat with you about it!

Not that I want to sound like a clone of Aquacorde. But I'm working towards completing my bachelor of education so I can be a primary school teacher (although I'm also a dance coach and looking to further myself in that profession also).

Seeing as I also work with children, it's really nice to see other people sharing in the enjoyment of educating young people and developing their skills. Children are fascinating creatures.

I find writing lesson plans is quite easy, although I'm not looking forward to having to plan entire terms of lessons. Beyond that though, I think co-workers tend to be the biggest obstacles in my chosen profession(s).
