Additions and Deletions--Moonlight Silver ver.

Posted February 1st, 2017 at 8:19 PM by EmeraldSky

I know that those of you that are reading (and hopefully enjoying!) Moonlight Silver are likely curious to know why I cut some things out, moved things around, and added things in, so here's the reasons for some additions and deletions without giving too much away.

Addition: The Trio's musical ability

Why: This is basically an expansion of the Pokeflute from RBY--I will explain in more detail how they got their instruments when I write the Kanto remix (Pokemon Lightning Yellow)

Across every remix, the Pokeflute isn't the sideblown instrument we see in the show--in the remixes, it is an endblown instrument slightly longer than a recorder, and sounds like an Irish style flute. This naturally allows for a tin whistle to be a starter instrument/stepping stone to this redesigned Pokeflute (Ash can play both very well)

I chose fiddle/violin for Misty because it seemed to fit both sides of her personality--it can be demure and sweet, or wild and spirited.

Brock I've re-imagined into a singer-storyteller that plays an acoustic guitar (a subtle tribute to his classic English VA)--something I figured he might know how to do with so many siblings in the house--so that means he knows a WHOLE lot more songs than just "Takeshi no Paradaisu".

His gaga running gag is also rewritten into trying to serenade the object of affection du jour, but he usually never gets to play, interrupted, or dragged off. He does, however succeed on a few occassions.

Addition: Kamon (aka GSC rival)

Why: I believed he would make a better foe than Team Rocket would ever be, and eliminate the need for TR to show up in every episode.

Moved: Team Rocket

Why: I'm aiming for Moonlight Silver (and the other remixes) to be a bit of a blend between the games and the show, so in Moonlight Silver, you don't see them until Azalea Town, as they do in the games. This means that a lot of their early memorable Johto moments had to be cut to better make sense with the story I wanted to tell.

Addition: The Pokethlon and the Lore Stage

Why: One of the most common complaints about the GSC arc is that Misty and Brock don't really get much to do, and I wanted them to do more than provide comic relief. So for Brock I created the Lore Stage (in keeping with my imagined role for him as a songwriter/storyteller), and brought in the HG/SS Pokethlon for Misty, with the addition of water and sky based events as well as the land events in the game.

Deletion: Togepi

Why: As cute as he is, with Misty doing the Pokethon, Togepi would be holding Misty back in the story I want to tell, so he went on the cutting room floor, save for a small little cameo in the episode featuring Mr. Pokemon.

Moved/Deletion: The Trio's Pokemon

Why: Some of Ash's Pokemon and some of Misty and Brock's Pokemon were either cut completely (as their storyline wouldn't make sense in the story I wanted to tell) or moved to other characters. (Ethan gets Totodile and Lyra gets Chikorita, but Ash still keeps Cyndaquil, so that his team somewhat mirrors my own SS team)

Addition: Today's mechanics

Why: I do have an explanation for Mega Evolution and Z Crystals showing up in Johto, but you'll have to wait till Ecruteak City to find out in more detail.
