This is going to be another three parter, because once we cut Team Rocket out, there was plenty of opportunities for worldbuilding! Team Rocket does make an appearance in the Goldenrod storyline, just not until the remix of "A Dairy Tale Ending"
While Misty still keeps her desire to go shopping, Brock has more interests than pretty girls--in keeping with his new role as a singer/storyteller and to make him a more rounded character, he is interested in the local music scene and learning new stuff for the Lore Stage. I do keep the going gaga gag in a different form (trying to sing to every pretty girl he can find), but only when it was too good not to cut or rewrite.
New characters Alex and Keely were created just for this story. Keely will actually be one of Brock's Lore Stage rivals, but she is a friendly rival, not a Gary-like rival.
I also took the opportunity to introduce Buena and her radio show, and have Ash receive the Machop you get via an in game trade as a prize, completing his team.
In my imagined Pokeworld, radio stations work similar to US radio, only reversed--so regions on the eastern parts of the world have KXXX call letters, and stations on the west have WXXX call letters (some regions, like Unova, Houen, and Alola, have both) Regional flagship stations usually spell out the region in some form in their call letters (so this is why the regional flagship for Johto is WJTO, and the regional flagship station for Kanto is KNTO)
While most stations usually play either music or talk programs (news, sports, dramas, and so on), regional flagship stations will often play a mix of music and talk programs. In some cases, a regional flagship will have the main channel that plays the mix, and several subchannels that have different kinds of programming (KNTO is one example--the main station plays the mix, and has the subchannels KNTO News, KNTO Sports, KNTO Arts (for music and dramas), KNTO Living (for informative shows on other topics), and KNTO Kids (kid friendly programming, including music and dramas)
