Shine Diamond episode 61--The Afterpost

Posted April 29th, 2019 at 10:11 AM by EmeraldSky

This week, Dawn, May, and Ash square off in the Wallace Cup's Appeal competition, but Dawn manages to eke out a narrow victory and finally earn her second ribbon.

Since remixed coordinators do not battle, I was able to combine "Pruning a Passel of Pals" and "Strategy with a Smile" into one episode. Remixed coordinators also can't change Pokemon--they are stuck with the Pokemon they are announced with for the whole competition. Remixed coordinators are also not eliminated at any point--they compete in all three rounds no matter what. Runners up in Contests receive medals, but these do not count towards the Grand Festival.

I moved Kori's dance in the Dance competition and most of the Appeal competition offscreen to keep things moving after deciding it was better just to see Ash's strong start and Dawn's victory.

I also reveal what May's Heart Song is--you'll learn how she awakened it when we get to Sapphire Sky.

In the slumber party interlude, Zoey mentions Z Moves, and the girls theorize how they could work in a Contest scenario. She also foreshadows how Mega Evolution works in a Contest for down the road, when Dawn can Mega Evolve Satomi.

Unlike in the real episode, Ash makes himself useful during the slumber party, by offering to bring the girls ice cream--setting up for his encounter with Azelf.

After the girls and Ash foreshadow the three pixies for down the road, Brock regales the girls, Ash, and Tarina with the tale of Moltres.

I built some of the early appeals from the battles in the real episode--this means that Kyle is only briefly acknowledged in the remix, since remixed coordinators do not battle.

Tarina pinches Dawn as a callback to the "somebody pinch me" moment she had with Brock during "Malice in Wonderland"

Brock brings up some of May's other team members--Starshine the Blaziken, Zelda the Gardevoir, and Mizu the Wartortle--as the gang is saying their goodbyes.

Next time, Diddy's Blaze ability goes awry, and it takes the Swanna Song to get him under control!
