New features coming to your local Pokémon community :]

Posted August 23rd, 2010 at 3:08 AM by Bebop

Okay! So life has been relatively less crazy lately and I've had some time to sit down and work on some PC features that've been in the works for a long time, and I thought I'd share some of the stuff that's coming to PokéCommunity over the next few months.

First up:

ROM Hacking Boards

The ROM Hacking boards are going to undergo some changes soon, which include an all-new way to showcase your threads. Instead of just a regular post where you have to style your thread by hand and tell everyone about your hack in a disorganized fashion, showcase threads will have a layout to them to keep things nice and tidy.

As you create your thread, you'll see a bunch of new options on the new post screen:

You fill in all of the information, including the title of your hack, who's responsible (your team), what it's a hack of, logo, etc. Along with all of this is your standard post box that you detail all of your hack information in.

Threads then have a Hack Information box associated with them, which tell everyone the basic details of your thread and give them download options, etc.

Along with this new layout system will be some changes to how your files are managed. Instead of linking to offsite locations for your hack, you'll be allowed to upload it directly to PC. This'll allow us to track download numbers and trends and display them automatically on your thread, and eventually a version control system will be implemented to keep track of updates.

Screenshots will no longer be just images thrown into your post, but instead will be uploaded to PC and sorted into your thread automatically (as you can see in the example screenshot above.)

Eventually we'll be able to do really cool things with this, such as a better hack searching and sorting system, allowing everyone to find hacks they wanna play more easily and get more exposure for hackers out there who want their games recognized. :]

All of this is subject to change, as it's all currently in an alpha-phase with just a few of us testing it. Feel free to leave your feedback in this blog entry! We wanna know what you think would improve the system, make it easier to use, etc.

Next up: WiFi Trading Post reformation.

I don't visit ROM hacking all that frequently but I do like this feature a lot seeing as in I do enjoy perusing the threads and seeing the hacking around the community. I can see it's an ambitious attempt, maybe not difficult for you to do Audy but it still looks like it'll be worthwhile once it's all 100% functioning. I think the ROM hacking community has grown too large not to have a more organized system.
