Bad computer news....

Posted December 4th, 2008 at 9:11 PM by Aurafire

Well, it turns out it was a lot worse than I thought. There's a major problem with the hard drive. I brought it into the repair place and they still have no idea whats wrong. It won't even boot up now ;____;

Best case scenario...It's only a minor break and it gets covered under my warranty, which means I'm out $200. Worse case...There's a crack in the circuit board and they have to send it back to Apple, which means 800-1000. The guy's first impression was that it wasn't going to be major, but that still doesn't put me at ease at all. I can't afford something that expensive right now...

So yeah...this means I'm not going to be on as much, at least until I get it back. I'll still head down to the library as much as I can and stay on for a good long while, but nowhere near how much I'm usually on. Everyone pray that my laptop is going to be ok! =/

    I understand your situation completely.
    I depend on my computer so much. Between writing, looking stuff up and drawing, I use ot tons. And because of said hobbies, I've been through problems with it too.

    So you don't live with anyone who has a computer? When my computer was sick, I used my mom's laptop or when I was desperate, my dad's computer. Shame you have to rely on the library.
    *hugs external harddrive

    My roommate has a computer, but he's on it every day, so not much time for me to sneak onto PC for any acceptable amount of time. I'll just have to go to the library......alot. XD

    I remember when I had to send my MBP in to get it' new screen, they told me 2 weeks and I'd be up and running on it again. I got it back 4 weeks later. I was lucky enough to have my old BU windows machine, that got taken for a ride that month. (I went through about 7 OS installs from linux to windows to a try at OSx86 and back to windows again) anyway, My brother's in the same boat as you, his Powerbook G4 just kicked the bucket after 7 years of rigorous use so now my family is all chipping in to help him buy a new Macbook.

    The guy was quite perplexed at the situation, because it wouldn't even boot up even when they put the disk in specifically for MBPs, which means they still have no idea how bad the damage is. I'm calling them later today and hopefully they got it running and can see what the problem is. Based on my limited knowledge, the fact that it was actually running after it got dropped and only crapped out a couple days later leads me to believe that it's not horribly damaged. I mean, if the circuit board was cracked, there's no way it would even start up. =/

    Yeah, I can't even imagine how annoying that is. It's not like I do it randomly and without reason, but then again, nothing I do is good enough for the great mods of mod-dom. My sincerest apologies.
