One look back, one step forward

Posted December 6th, 2010 at 7:09 PM by Guy

As we approach the closing of 2010 and the start of 2011, I couldn't help but take a look at the way my life shaped out to be this year. Not all good, but not all bad either. It was a year full of surprises, long lasting friendships, and even a little bit of adventure. More importantly, it's the year where I felt lost and actually had to find myself and what I plan on doing for the future.

When the year first started, I was in Colorado Springs, Colorado for winter break. The air was cold and dry, while the view in front of me was covered in a haven of snow. Now, some of you may not consider it a haven, but living in Florida for so long, having cold winters and nothing to follow it with but ice is pretty depressing. I had an enjoyable New Years watching the fireworks launch to the high points of the sky from the points of Pike's Peak - a 14,000+ feet tall mountain not far from behind the house I resided in and watching the New Years Ball drop from its resting place back in New York City. Not to mention, I got to open the new years with friends and family.

Preceding this, February came rolling around. I got news that I would be attending the Daytona 500 2010. I wasn't all too thrilled at first because I thought it would be boring watching cars race around the track 200 laps and 500 miles. I'm glad I did go though. It was a very fun experience, and the adrenaline you feel rushing through you every time you heard the roar of the engines fly past you was enough to blow your cap off. I'm actually hoping I can go again next year, or any year after that.

Little did I expect I would be modded right here on PokéCommunity that month as the next HG/SS Moderator on the 18th. This started a new chapter for my time online as well as opening new doors to friendships.

Not to mention, the birth of a new hiiro. /shot Well, the birth of a new hiiro after the whole Sydian name confusion where people had mistaken me for our current moderator, Sydian. Ah, good times. n_n;

I learned a lot being a mod. I uncovered more of PC's history, and I began to feel like I was contributing more to the forum. I met a ton of new people while modding PC's most popular forum at the time, and I even met a lot of new, long, lasting friends. Some of which I am still great friends with today no matter all the ups and downs we shared along the way. A month later, HeartGold and SoulSilver was released, and I missed it's release date activity here because I was taking care of my SATs. An important standardized test to get me into college. Not to mention, my interest was down for the weekend. ):

Anyway, while having a great experience taking on the role as a moderator, playing SoulSilver, and everything that followed, May soon approached, and three days into the month I became legal! I turned 18! For that day, I had dinner with my family which turned out exceptionally well. The waiter was a great guy, and even gave us free cake. 8D Upon arriving home we had a small get together with friends and I got to eat my own cake at home. So, overall it was a fun day for me. Maybe not the best birthday celebration, but for me, it was just right.

The best outcome of this month for me was graduation. I didn't have a traditional graduation like I would have gotten if I had stayed in public school, but I was finally considered a high school graduate of all things. The feeling and the title just felt good.

At the end of the month we ended up moving from South Florida to more North Central Florida. The move was overall average. The new house was pretty nice, and the summer had just begun. Man, what a summer! XD;

I don't want to go into too much detail, or else this blog is going to be way too long for its own good, but this summer was filled with twists and turns. My mom flew in from New York twice, I was near yet far from attending the same college as Nick for the fall, I went drifting down the river for four hours in a day, Black and White's section was out, spent a lot of time fishing and late nights out at times. The summer is actually pretty much a blur for me right now. @[email protected]

I do remember getting added to Pokémon Anime on August 7th, the same night Nica was promoted for Black and White. I was really excited to be added to the section as I had a great deal of ideas for it. Funny enough, I only modded it for a little less than two weeks. XD;

The most exciting moment, and probably a night I remember even today was when summer was drawing to a close was August 18th; the night where three new Super Moderators came to play - Nick, Drew, and I. Wow, what a night. I remember Nick saying fajitas, Drew going mad, and myself caught as a broken record saying "OMG" the entire time. If I recall correctly, we were "molded" that night. Six months exactly since my modding within the same year; that night was a blast, and with being a Super Moderator I got to contribute and help the forum even further. I have to say, this was another highlight of the year, even if it was on a Pokémon forum. I still continued to make Pokémon Anime grow regardless of not being the designated mod anymore, as well as contributing my help to other sections. I learned a lot within that time, and I'm still learning. One thing I always remember is to be true to myself on the forum. I never want to change the person I am since joining, and so far I've been able to keep to my word.

Soon enough, October rolled around and so did Halloween. Haha, I kept telling myself at that time how it felt just like yesterday I was trick or treating around our old neighborhood. This year, I felt the desire to sit this one out though. Just enjoy the day for what it was, but still nab some candy when I could.

Just recently we had Thanksgiving, where I spent it with friends and family. It was a fun time, and I enjoyed it a lot. The food was delicious and the day was all around a positive. It was a the best moment to give thanks for everything that has happened in my life since then.

Now, at this very moment, I'm sitting here typing my whole year out to you, and you may or may not have been reading it all, but if you did, then I'm sorry you wasted approximately five minutes or more of your life reading this. I just saw it as a great time to reflect back on my year before Christmas and the new year approached.

As for my future ahead, I want to make 2011 one of the greatest years of all time. I want to get out there, I want to explore new talents, get back into my creative skill, because unfortunately 2010 was not my best year for creativity in the artistic department. I really want to venture into new things as well. I see turning 19 as a big deal for me, more than 18 was, so I'm anticipating that day everyday. 2011 is the year where I know who I am and I work toward building my future.

I may set my new year resolutions, but I don't know if I'll actually follow them. Saying is easier than doing, but this year I'm putting my focus on actually doing what I say. If not, I'll just be stuck in the hole again like I might have been this year in life. Plus, with my time off from school this entire year, I'm planning to get back into school and start college for Fall of 2011. It's definitely going to be the year I change my life around. I don't know what it is, but I have this good feeling about it.

Okay, that's enough. I think I'm just rambling now.

Do expect me to use my blog more though! I want to get my writing drive back into gear, so I think I'm going to be using my blog a lot more than I have been in the past. For various reasons though, not just for the normal.

    You said you'd reply to my thread on summarising the year, it needs good replies like that! (It's a good blog entry though)

    You can reword and repost in the thread though!

    Gosh Shivs, that was touching.. It really got me thinking about my own life and how everything lead up to this point. I guess I can say that you've become somewhat of an inspiration to me with your words and ways.. haha.

    I really enjoyed that. Let's hold 2010 in our hearts as our changing year, and make 2011 a great "forward" year, yes? :3

    I'll be attending college next year as well, but in early spring hopefully! Time for some major changes!
