Fan Fiction... and other stuff, too...

Well, I've started re-posting my fan fiction on here, but I haven't mentioned it because apparently reading reviews of trashy motels and using GIMP to create the Buick Enclave Estate Wagon takes precedence.

But if I may be serious for a moment, I'm baffled as to how I should reply to the latest review. She makes some very valid points, but making some of those changes would change the very nature of the story and the main character, and it's too big of a change. Not to mention the fact that I'm busy, I'm getting up there in years, and I don't have the time nor the will to completely rewrite the thing. It's like trying to turn a Quality Inn into the Ritz... it's not gonna happen unless you tear down the place and start over anew. And my schedule as well as my waning interest in fan fiction in general won't allow that. So... how do I explain that without sounding like a jerk?

At least I'm getting reviews here though. At the other forum where I frequent, I've just wrapped it up yesterday by posting the last 12 chapters all at once. Granted, the other place is much smaller, but my one regular reviewer there said she was too busy, so eventually I just ended it and asked her to copy/paste her reviews from SPPf and combine them into one final post. I would have liked to have continued posting normally, but things just didn't allow for that. As for here... we'll see how much I can get posted. Don't expect a big amount of editing other than ones I did about 6-9 months ago, though...

Okay, enough ranting. This Buick ad pwns:

My next entry... haven't decided if it's gonna be an anime related entry or the final installment of Buick: Then and Now. Stay tuned is all I can say, I guess

Also, look for a new graphic/banner for this blog. Gotta boot up GIMP again...

That part of their review caught my eye.. because typically, when picturing a story in your mind, it's nice to know what the character looks like. :/ Clothing descriptions are a good thing, IMO. D:

I think what Dragonfree meant is the way the clothing is described. I mean, no one wants to read a fic where the flow is suddenly interrupted with two paragraphs of description. Not saying you do this, DP ^^; Haven't read your work in a while. :o

As a person that did two contests and have to look through description, Gummy is right on what Dragonfree is trying to say, Break. And actually, I don't really think it's that necessary to describe clothing in full detail. Stories are supposed to be more focused on the character's personality, not clothing (although sometimes clothing can give part of the picture of the character's personality).

DP, I looked at a bit of the review, and I remember the first time someone mentioned Lisa being a Sue you got frustrated. Don't want you to be like that again. ; As for how to explain that to her, I would tell the truth like you did here. Say that she has some valid points, but big changes will hinder the very nature of the story and that you're the writer, not her. Also, true that maybe there are some points where Lisa is going to Mary Sue territory, but in the end you're writing the story for yourself, to bring a message, and because it's fun to you. I know Dragonfree's a good reviewer, so hopefully she'll understand why you can't make the big changes and such.
