2012 brings new things to discover as well as uncertainty about the future. It also brings more of that 2012 doomsday BS that has been running rampant the past few years, despite common sense and scientists actually proving that the predicted Mayan doomsday will not happen! But that still doesn't stop idiots like Discovery Channel, History Channel, Patrick Geryl and other morons from continuing to shove their doomsday shows and books down our throats!

Since the world will end in 356 days from now (we are in a leap year, so we have the 29th of February), I've decided to have my own fun with this "phenomenon". Don't worry, I'm not going to talk about how the earth will suddenly reverse its magnetic fields or anything like that. I lack the intelligence to make sense of that stuff.

The reason for this title if I'm not going to talk about 2012? A certain 80's song that critics think is probably the worst song in history.

Snowtober aftermath

If Mother Nature was trying to send us a message, we got it loud and clear.

This past weekend has been one I haven't experienced. Not because it snowed in late October, but it was the loss of power, phones, heat and constant cold for 3 days that I haven't experienced in my life.

Spoiler:

This is how much snow we got when the power went out.

The snow itself being so clumpy and leaves still on branches that was the cause of a great chunk of Massachusetts and Connecticut losing power on Saturday night. A bunch of branches from tress behind my house crashed to the ground ruing the snowstorm. We must have got around 6-8 inches when it was all over.

Spoiler:

This is what my neighborhood looked like when the storm ended. It was well into the morning when I took this. That's why the street looks okay.

Since we lost power that night, my Mom and I were freezing. Sure, we had candles, flashlights, batteries and radios, we didn't prepare for having no heat for 3 days, as were many people in the town I live in. I thought we were only going to be out of power for a few hours, not a few days.

Spoiler:

Some of the tree limbs that fell in the back of my house.

So, I was very happy that the power went back on late Monday night. We got phone and cell phone service back after that. We're pretty much back to normal where I live, but I can't say the same for other towns in my state.

And to those who want to trade places with me... do you really want to trade spots and probably face something like we went through up here this weekend?

I never realized leaves on the trees could cause that much damage with snow. o__O 6-8 inches doesn't sound like that much on paper.

I know my best friend is still without power, or at least I assume so -- he's in Connecticut and he said yesterday he had 8-10 days until they were getting power back where he lived. I hope he's doing okay. :(

It was not only the snow on the leaves. The snow itself was clumped up as it fell and that caused more weight.

You friend must live north of Hartford. The radio said that it would take them longer to get power restored down there. Honestly, I thought that I would not get power back until Thursday.

6-8 inches is a lot of snow in one sitting. Especially when it's clumpy like this storm was.

Not that the Northeast's frail and shoddy power grid needed any help being fickle and shoddy. Shouldn't go out during every extreme weather event like it seems to have done over the past decade.
