A Music Blog (#13: Is there anybody in there?)
Time for an older song! One of my favourites, this one (although I have a few from the band), and from one of the more interesting albums I've listened to in that the whole album tells a story and revolves around a single motif.
The song is Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd from The Wall album (the one that features the song with the line 'We don't need no education'). The album (a rock opera if you will) tells the life of a man 'Pink' whose life has down downhill due to several incidents (father dead from war, overprotective mother, failed marriage), all contributing to a metaphorical wall.
It also got a movie (Pink Floyd - The Wall) from which the video comes from, and one I would recommend watching too (mind you it's not rated M-15 or whatever for nothing). It's low on dialogue and mostly uses the music and imagery to tell the story, with a mixture of acting and animation.
Anyways!
Alternate link!
Lyrics...in the video but also below:
As can be seen, the song is a conversation between a doctor and patient. The song shifts between the two nicely and smoothly, but the highlight is undoubtedly that guitar solo in the last two minutes. So enjoyable to listen to imo.
As for the finer details for what the song is about... well, all I can say is to watch the movie. It's imo a work of art and there's too much to say that wouldn't really be worth it without having seen it too. There's also this cool site.
As a last note, I would also recommend using this as an alternative text for a english essay as that's what I did for my end-of-high school exam and it seemed to work out. ;p
