What makes a blog interesting?

Posted May 31st, 2012 at 4:32 PM by PlatinumDude

Just a bit of a question I thought up after looking through the blogs here. When I was looking through them, I noticed that some had a good deal of comments (which I assumed to be very interesting) and some others that little to no comments at all (which meant they were semi-interesting or not so interesting at all).

What I mean by interesting is, "is the blog worth reading?"

What I'm wondering is, what makes a blog interesting for other people to read.

That's a diffcult one. You never know when writing a blog if it will be interesting and get a lot of comments or not. They are kind of hit or miss in that way.

Everyone has different things they are interested in reading about. I guess just write about things that interest you and others might be interested as well.

Most of my blogs get a fair few comments, but I spend ages working on them and see them as a sort of creative writing exercise, so I would hope that they do. One trend I've noticed though is that the ones that are about PC tend to get more comments.

I find that annoying because I think my other blogs are equally interesting, but you can't help what people like lol.

Yeah, that's what I've noticed too. But I still don't get why PC-related blogs have so many comments, though.

I like blogs about life and creativity so basically %100 of my bogs are just about those two things. Nobody seems to be very interested in mine though but I guess most people like blogs that just relate to actual PC stuff. I just have too much of a life outside of it xD PC actually takes up pretty little of my life considering.

Most of the people that have tons of comments don't have them because their blog is overly interesting but just because they have a lot of friends on PC.

Edit: Also, just because a blog has many comments doesn't mean that it's particularly interesting, most of the time it has to do with inside jokes within PC (for example lots of blogs written in relation to IRC, where IRC regulars all comment). In the same vein, just because a blog has few or no comments doesn't mean it's uninteresting or ignored; for example, I've never commented on one of your blogs, Kurui, but I can say for certain that I've read every single one, haha.

Hm, point taken. I still don't get most PC inside jokes, though, so yeah.

Thanks! I get a little discouraged if I work hard to make something (on my creativity ones), and I don't get a single bit of crit or praise, that's all. Cause the blogs don't tell you for sure if someone has read some particular posting. >_>;;; I could care less if they post comments on my daily life ramblings because I normally use that to vent, for myself, and there's something about making feelings public that help set them free so I don't get stuffed up. But for the creativity ones, it's hard to tell what I can improve on if nobody ever acknowledges them, etc. Because I am obviously not a mind reader XD
