A Music Blog (#14: Sultans in da house)
Been a while again, no? I blame life.
This was always going to be featured as it is one of those songs I instantly turn up the volume of in the car and sometimes sing, haha. Or well, a song by the band anyways (who someone knows as 'the one which sings about refrigatators' =p), but this one is easily my favourite.
Dire Straits, Sultans of Swing!
Alternate link!
Lyrics:
That guitar. It's not so much an instrument as almost another singer there in the song - it follows every line of the song to 'say' something of its own. And the solos are pretty neat too. Despite the song following a repetitive structure the song remains interesting because of that.
Fairly simple story to it too; just about how the band palyed music on friday nights. Goes to show you don't need a full-blown story or a song about drugs/sex/etc to make a good song. Just a very good guitar player. =p

Wow, what an interesting song. I have actually never heard of this group and I have never heard of this song as well. I will be sure to look up more from this group, I think I might dabble more in this particular genre as well. Thanks for posting =)Posted June 19th, 2012 at 8:57 PM by Lila.

You are welcome! Hurrah for actually doing a song that's as awesome as this that isn't known by everyone, haha.Quote:...this is marvellous & now, also a part of my library; thank you.
It kinda saddens me too. =( I MUST PRESS ON CLEARLYQuote:It saddens me that not everyone knows this song. They've been missing out on so much. v__v
Good man!Quote:I grew up on this CD. Nostalgiafest as I spam repeat. Thanks mang ;w;
You should listen to more of their music then. =p Down to the Waterline for instance has very nice guitar too.Quote:I don't listen to a lot of the Dire Straits, but I liked the guitar parts in the song.

But for those who didn't know of the band Dire Straits - you really should check out the whole album the song is from! The other song Down to the Waterline linked above (and here) is the first track of their self-titled album. Which is not bad at all for a debut album too!Posted June 22nd, 2012 at 6:47 AM by bobandbill
