It's the new year and that means new spaces for all of us in art college world!
(that truck is what I was painting in that picture)
This is the year where all students focus on their chosen specialisms. I chose Graphics as my specialism while focusing primarily on illustration.
For this project I am doing some research into art styles seen most commonly in children's picture books, while bearing in mind potential colour schemes I can possibly use, as well as elements I may add as a way to give my eventual final pieces a bulkier body (which is why you see the truck I was in the process of painting in my sketchbook.)
I also thought it would be a good idea to take out some favourable children's picture books from the library nearby where I live...one book in particular that caught my eye was a giant picture booklet called Owl Babies.
It's been around for a while. I talked to a friend who sits opposite the wall in front of me that she remembers Owl Babies being her favourite thing to read when she was a little girl, she also loved the sketchy art style...and by some coincidence, I do too! I love the way Benson had applied a lot of mark-making to layer over a sheet of yellow shades...annnd wanted to see if I could try and imitate that style using the paints in front of me, and a fountain pen.
An Owl baby straight out of my sketchbook! It looks at you with a blank look on its face
"...who are you people!?"
